Inclement Weather Reminder:

In case of inclement weather (snow, sleet, extreme cold, etc.) and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) are closed our preschool also be closed. Please listen to the radio or television to be aware of these closings; we will do our best to update the school’s voicemail message as well as send an email correspondence to all par-ents (should power be available). When CMS has a 1or 2 hour delay, the LSLP will open one hour later (at 10:25AM).

By the same token, should schools close during an already in-progress school day (also due to inclement weather), we will close one hour before CMS does. (For example: if CMS closes at 12:00PM, we will release children at 11:00AM.)

LSLP make-up days are scheduled should MORE THAN FIVE DAYS be missed in a school year, due to inclement weather.

Toddler’s and Two’s News

Ms. Fumiyo/Ms. LoriWe had a lot of fun last month building our snowmen while exploring some non-traditional painting techniques using puffy paint made from shaving cream and glue, making car tracks by rolling cars over finger paint, and painting with colored popsicles. The children really enjoyed our exotic animal encounter as we got see and touch a snake, chin-chilla, lizard, pigeon, and rat. In Ms. Missy’s activity time we learned about all “winter” — we threw snowballs and did some snowball bowling and tossed balls into Olaf’s belly as well as some fun activities with ice. We really enjoyed meeting with our parents for the parent/teacher conferences! We could not be more proud of how much the children have grown and pro-gressed so far! This month we will focus on and celebrate all the friendships we have made this year. Our art projects will be-come more centered on working together and creating as a group. We will have our annual Pajama Tea Party. Our colors are “pink” and “purple“, shape is “heart”, and our featured nursery rhyme is “I’m a Little Teapot”. Ms. Kate/Ms. Anu We hope that you and your family are having a great start to 2020. It is hard to believe that February is around the corner. We have sure kept ourselves busy in January. I know that the children really liked checking out the animals that were brought into the Preschool. Some of the children were braver than others on touching the animals. We also had fun having an indoor snowball fight with a snowman the other day. Three of our friends have celebrated birthdays in January, Sean, Grace and Caleb. In January we worked on the letters, M, N, O, P the shape was a heart, color is white and number 6. As you know we have now split the class into two smaller groups, with 14 children Ms. Jessica, Ms. Anu and I felt the children would benefit more from individual attention. We are split for circle time in the morning, lunch time and crafts. We are together for Chapel, the Activity Room and Music and outside time, weather permitting. We also are together for special occasions such as birthdays or other special events. Please let us know if you have other questions. In February, we look forward to learning letters, P,Q,R,S the number will be 7, the color is red and the shape is still a heart. Shyra celebrated her birthday, in December however she was in India and not at school. Her mother asked if we could cele-brate Shyra's birthday at school. We decided to celebrate her birthday on Valentine's Day. Shyra will have birthday treats for all her friends, on that day. Also if your child would like to participate in exchanging Valentines, we are in fine with that idea. Please let Ms. Anu and I know if you have other questions. The best way to contact either of us is email.

Ms. Anna-We have a lot of exciting things going on at our preschool!! We had our favorite Exotic Encoun-ters in January. It was so much fun for kids. They just love petting animals! This month we will be focusing on Happy Groundhog Day. In relation to Groundhog Day we will also be learning about shadow and light. Valentine’s Day is approaching, and we are getting ready for that big day. We will be spending months talking about emotions, friendship and Valentine's Day! On Friday, February 14th the kids are welcome to pass out cards to their friends in the class. We will also do some fun Valentine’s Day activity. We are learning a lot every month. One of the themes of February is dental health. This theme helps them to develop positive habits and skills that will last a life-time. Terrific Three’s

Ms. Indu In January, we did snowman name activity, which is a fun and creative way to learn their names. We read the book, "The mitten" and made a mitten lacing activity (fine motor skill) to go along with it. In the activity room we had exercise and fun like froggy jumps, hungry hippos, bunny hops etc. The bull dozer exercise was a hit. Kids throwing snow balls to the snow woman was a blast. Thank you Missy for all the fun in the activity room. The zoo visit was fun too.In February we will be learning how to have a healthy smile by learning what is good for our teeth and what is not and having good brushing habits. For our social develop-ment we are going to learn how to love one another by be-ing friendly, complimenting each other and using the words sorry, please and thank you!

Ms. Trish The month of January brought us a lot of indoor fun with exotic animals, indoor snowball fun, Ice painting and puffy polar bears! Now we are in February already! It’s hard to believe how fast the months come and go and how much the children are learning and growing each day. This month the children will be exchanging valentines on February 14th. We will be discussing love and friendships and ways we can be a good friend. Along with our letters K, A, M and N, we will continue working with the letters in our names and having fun with our Valentines theme this month.

Ms. Lindsey It was great seeing you all at parent confer-ences! Our themes for February will be focused on Valen-tine’s Day ♥️and also dental health ♥️ Activity’s that we will be engaged in will focus around those with lots of hands on and working on one on one directed activities. We continue to work daily on our fine motor skills. Our let-ters for the month will be K, A,M and N. We do try and go outside daily so please dress appropriately for the weather.

Ms Dena-January was fun learning about letters and num-bers.We had a cold month so spent some time inside with our friends.Loved having the zoo lady visit us and who brought some really cool animals for us to see and touch! February we are looking forward to some fun activ-ities all filled up for valentines. Enjoyed seeing all parents during our conferences.

Fantastic Four’s

Ms. Donna We had a great start to a new year! The kids all seem so happy to be back at school. We had fun read-ing several versions of The Gingerbread Man and also en-joyed mixing, rolling, baking, and decorating gingerbread cookies! Ask your child about the many different ginger-bread characters read about among the many books. We will continue to review alphabet letters and sounds and put them together to form words. Please review them at home too! This month we will learn about winter, Valentine’s Day, 100 days of school (!), and our literature focus, The Mit-ten. Please look for the February calendar in your child’s back-pack. And, details regarding our Valentine’s Day card exchange will be coming soon.

Ms. Elsie-Thank you all for making January another month of learning fun. We enjoyed our In-house field trip with the Reptile Zoo and our Conferences together with our parents, or what our class calls, “Come see what I can do!” We have started playing board and card games. Just to name a few, Don’t Break the Ice, Trouble, Uno, Go Fish, and the Pop and Learn Letters and Numbers Game.” What are they learning by playing Board Games you ask? Sharing and taking turns, Self Confidence, Prob-lem Solving, Independence, number and shape recogni-tion, pre school math, grouping, recognizing patterns, counting, letter recognition, along with letter sounds and pre-reading, visual perception and color recognition, Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity and so much more… During Science (Thursday’s ), we enjoyed making real Gingerbread houses, that was so yummy and our Lemon Volcanos were so exciting to see bubble over, WOW, we are having so much fun... In February we will be celebrating the love we have for our God, Family and each other through Valentine’s Day activities... Our cur-riculum book for February is "The Mitten". We will be estimating how many things will fit in our own white mitten and, we will continue with the estimation jar. We will also be experimenting through our senses, and mix-ing colors with our Color Mixing Glasses. We will be making fruit salads, fruit ices, and Lemonade. We will experience Sweet tasting, (Sugar) and Sour tasting (lemons). We will also taste vegetables by making our own salads. Tomatoes, lettuce, cucumbers etc.… All activ-ities are hands on, some Teacher Directed but mostly Child Directed. If you would like to donate a fruit or a vegetable, I will have a sign-up sheet online through Sign Up Genius. All other fun activities will be on your calen-dar. Be Blessed,
