Principal’s Message Dear Parents/Caregivers,

The start of a new year can bring with it a range of emotions: excitement, worry or uncertainty. Being able to understand and manage these emotions and thoughts are something children learn as they grow and develop. Resilience is a term that is often used to describe a child’s ability to manage these ups and downs.

Clean Up Australia Day 2018

This coming weekend is Clean Up Australia Day and on Friday 2

nd March, South students will take part in the

school clean up event. During the day, classes will head out to their designated area to pick up rubbish and help keep our beautiful school clean and tidy.

Students should wear gloves on the day, so if you have an old pair of gardening gloves, or rubber gloves, please send them to school this week. For more information on Clean Up Australia Day at Deni South, please contact Mrs. Landale. To find Clean Up events in the area this weekend, please visit: https://www.cleanupaustraliaday.org.au/join/?location=Deniliquin&kw

Another fantastic way to help fight the war on waste would be to pack a ‘nude food’ lunch box for your child, reducing the amount of waste we throw away.

Did you know, every year, more than 160 million drink containers end up as litter in NSW. Deniliquin now has a ‘Return and Earn’ machine (in the IGA car park), where you can recycle your used drink containers and get 10c back for each bottle/can/carton!

Other great ways to reduce waste in our community are to use ‘Boomerang Bags’ instead of plastic ones when you go supermarket shopping, and to use ‘Keep Cups’ when you buy a coffee, instead of throwing away the disposable coffee cups. Let’s work together to keep our beautiful town litter free.

Library News

Friendly reminder – all students in Kinder, Grade 1 and Grade 2 need a Library bag in order to borrow books. These can be any shape, size or colour, as long as they can fit 2 Library books and have the student’s name on them. The NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge starts next week (Monday 5

th March). The Challenge aims to

encourage a love of reading for leisure and pleasure in students, and to enable them to experience quality literature. In the 2017 Challenge over 290,000 students read over 8 million books! It is not a competition but a challenge to each student to read, to read more and to read more widely. It is available for all NSW students from Kindergarten to Year 9. It starts on Monday 5 March and closes Friday 31 August. Mrs. Landale will help students get set up and will assist students with recording their reading lists. For further information, you can check out the official website or talk to Mrs. Landale.
