LO4 – GENERATE IDEAS FOR THEIR OWN NEW
SOCIAL MEDIA WEBSITEEmma Fraser
Idea for Social Media Appa) Purpose – The purpose for the social media app I am creating will be to aid families when taking an outing together. This can often be a task for families, especially
during half term or if plans are last minute, therefore this app will be around to help families find a place which they can be confident about going to, due to the information they will be able to gather through the app. The main goal of the app is to make family trips easier and more exciting, which will hopefully encourage more families to spend time together. The app will allow users to communicate with other members and meet other people with families in which they can share views on different locations, etc.
b) Format and Style - The app will allow other families to map places where they have been on a day out and enable them to comment on different aspects of the place (such as accessibility, parking, service, etc.), rate and comment, as well as featuring a question section where other users can ask about the place. Others who use the app will be able to see the reviews of places which other families have visited to allow them to see what its like. The app will provide users with the ability of finding places to visit near them on the map that will be presented within one of the tabs, where each place shows up a ‘star rating’ will appear next to the name, based on feedback from the app, allowing users to quickly find a good quality place to visit for their day out. Within the review section of the app, users will also be able to insert images to support their comments. Users will have their own profile in which they will be allowed to upload a profile picture, as well as create a user name which will be displayed next to their image when commenting or posting on the app. Other users will be able to visit their profile to view reviews in which they have posted, this will allow users to keep in touch with other members who they find to be reliable.
c) Target user/membership – The target audience for the social media app will be parents/guardians. Within the app they will be able to talk to each other about the places, as well as receive extra information, which they may need depending on whether the place will be suitable for their child to visit, for example, whether there is disabled access or if they provide different food options for those with allergies. All parents and guardians will be able to use the app, however it may be utilised/populated more by younger parents, this may be because they are more familiar with social media platforms than older parents who aren’t as familiar with social media platforms.
d) Mock Ups: For the first idea for the layout of my app, I chose a simple design which presents the user with a main menu bar at the bottom of the app with different options for them to select. Each page presents the user with a different layout which are easy to navigate. This will appeal to my audience as the audience will be older and always busy, as they will have children, therefore having a simple layout will make it easier for them to quickly post to the app without having to figure out how to do it every time. The 5 different pages I chose to feature where ‘Maps’, ‘Reviews’, ‘Types’, ‘Saved’ and ‘Search’, this provides the user with different options, as well as ones that will benefit them. for example the ‘Saved’ option allows the user to save locations they find which may have particularly good reviews whilst browsing through the app, giving them the opportunity to go back and revisit their saved locations.
Main Menu Bar – available for user to select and navigate between pages.
Search bar on ‘Maps’
page allows user to
search for a location.
Section allows user to view
location, as well as identify locations
by small icons above places on
original map. Once selected
location, allows user to view brief information about location, such as name, address,
distance and star rating.
The review section allows users to visit
a locations pages and view the
reviews that have been left by other users, as well as being given the
chance to write their own review as well.
Users are able to leave a review which
will be displayed along side a star rating, that they have chosen and
their user name and picture.
This section will allow the
user to venture into each type of day out and be presented with reviews
for each location that is
under that category. This
makes the process of finding a
location easier for the user and can give
them ideas to try.

Main Menu Bar – available for user to select and navigate between pages.
‘Sort By…’ option allows users to refine their ‘Saved
Locations’ for them to search through them a
certain way, for example ‘Distance – Far to Near’ which will present them
with their saved locations, but starting with those that
are furthest away.
The ‘saved places’ section of the app allows users to save a location they have been viewing in order to
go back and explore it later. They will be
presented on this page with their name at the top, address and star
rating.
Search section allows user to search for a particular
location to view the reviews and comments.
Search History will be displayed below the search bar, this will give users the
opportunity to quickly revisit locations that they have previously searched
for.

d) Mock Ups - Idea 2: For the second layout idea for my app, I chose another simple design, similar to the previous one which presents the user with a main menu bar at the bottom of the app with different options for them to select. Each page presents the user with a different layout which are easy to navigate. This will appeal to my audience as the audience will be older and always busy, as they will have children, therefore having a simple layout will make it easier for them to quickly post to the app without having to figure out how to do it every time. The 5 different pages I chose to feature were ‘Reviews’, ‘Chat’, ‘Maps’, ‘Types’, and ‘Search’, this provides the user with different options, as well as ones that will benefit them. For example, the ‘Chat’ section to the app provides the user with the ability of viewing popular questions that may have been asked amongst the members of the app and gives them the opportunity to view the question and comments, as well as commenting themselves. The section also provides the user with a chance of asking questions they may need the answer to for other members to reply.
