Babbacombe Bay has been attracting holiday visitors to the English Riviera for many years. You can see why,

with its’ idyllic promenade lined with hotels, guesthouses, restaurants, pubs, the famous Babbacombe Theatre and exquisite views across Lyme Bay.

The shopping areas of Babbacombe, St. Marychurch and Plainmoor are compact and easy to explore on foot with the precinct in St. Marychurch being pedestriansed so you can stroll safely and unimpeded at your leisure.

Babbacombe Bay offers a special personalised shopping experience. You will not find the shopping areas dominated by a mass of high street retailers and chain stores. The shops are mainly run by smaller independent retailers, many family owned, who will welcome your visit, take time to find out your needs and invite you in to browse at your leisure.

The shops provide a good variety of merchandise to cover mainstream needs as well as boasting a number of specialty shops, which are fascinating to visit whether you are looking for a gift of something a little different for yourself.

Shopping in Babbacombe Bay brings back some yester year values and affords something different to explore at every turn of the corner, providing the perfect setting in which to enjoy some retail therapy.

When you’ve purchased all your gifts to take back to family and friends, refuel with a proper Devon cream tea, complete with delicious, thick clotted cream and homemade strawberry jam. In summer you can sit al fresco and enjoy the stunning sea views, or in winter warm up by a cosy log fire in one of the many attractive pubs, cafés or restaurants.

Babbacombe Theatre refurbished in 2009 has been a valuable asset to the Babbacombe Bay community and Bay tourism for over seventy years. The theatre actively seeks out new and versatile performers for their productions which, together with its youth policy, has resulted in the discovery and development of young talent with success nationally and in the West End for many performers that have appeared in his shows.

The theatre is renowned for wowing audiences with its mix of variety shows and musicals attracting highly acclaimed touring productions as well as running a regular Christmas show. Midweek shows run throughout the year and at weekends during the holiday season. Babbacombe Cliff Railway has been in operation since 1926, the cable car transporting over 250,000 locals and holidaymakers each year up and down to Oddicombe Beach. The trip down the cliff provides breathtaking views of the coastline. Babbacombe Model Village has been attracting holidaymakers since 1963 and is as popular today as it’s ever been. The model village whilst retaining its original charm is constantly evolving with additions such as wind farms reflecting the current way of life. As well as models of historic landmarks, railway, animals and vehicles there is also a spotters trail for children, plus a new miniature circus. Babbacombe Downs boast the highest cliff top promenade in England. The views from the top are stunning and on a clear day the view extends across to Portland Bill in Dorset. The Downs area provides the perfect place to stroll and or relax sitting in the cliff top gardens looking out over the beautiful coastline.

Bus Stagecoach is the primary operator of services in and around Babbacombe Bay, together with a handful of independent providers and regional services. National Express also serves near-by Torquay with services to and from various UK destinations and local buses operate between Torquay and Babbacombe Bay (32, 34 and 11). Parking There are five main car parks in Princes Street TQ1 3LW, St. Marychurch TQ1 3LA, Hampton Avenue TQ1 4PR, Chilcote Close TQ1 4QT and Walls Hill TQ1 3LZ. There are some time restricted parking spaces and some seasonal restrictions but currently no on street parking charges.
