KATJA WERNER - EALD My name is Katja Werner and I will be working with EALD students every Monday and Wednesday. I have a background in learning and teaching languages. I was born and raised in Germany and learnt English at school.

English was my favourite subject so I studied teaching English as a Foreign Language at Uni as well as German. This is my 13th year of teaching, many of your children might remember me doing some relief work in their class last year. I'm thrilled to be joining the Lockleys family and to be working at such a caring and dedicated school.

INTERNATIONAL STUDY TOUR

We welcome our Korean Study Tour students, Cindy, Jun, Paul, and Scott. These students have travelled to Adelaide to experience our Australian culture and education. We thank the following families, the De Jonge’s, the Natarajan’s and the Burfield’s who have all provided wonderful home stays for these students. In Term 3 we have the opportunity to host between 8 to 10 Korean families from the 22nd July for 3 weeks. To assist, families receive approximately $300 per week to host each student.

FITNESS CLUB Starts next week (week 4), Tuesday mornings from 8 to 8.30, meet at the Gym. Mr Pettitt will be running Fitness Club so make sure you come along and join him.

ATTENDANCE Attendance and late arrival – Please advise the school as soon as possible if you need to keep your child at home. Arriving at school on time, ready to start the day is important, so thanks to all those children who are ready to go. This is the opportunity for your child to connect with others and organise themselves for a smooth start. It allows the teacher to begin the planned learning activities so all of the children can focus on what is needed. Children should be ready to go into class at 8:50 in the morning.

BREAKFAST CLUB A big thank you to Chloe who is running Breakfast Club this Term. We started last week with 15 students attending. Yesterday we exceeded last weeks attendance with a bumper crowd. Please remember to come along and enjoy a yummy breakfast with our Community, this is a free service

available for the whole family to enjoy.

Premier’s Reading Challenge Information for Parents The Premier’s Reading Challenge is a literacy engagement program that was introduced by the Premier in 2004 to encourage students to read more books, enjoy reading and to improve literacy levels. The Challenge requires students to read 12 books between the beginning of the school year and early September. How can you find out about the Challenge? All information about the Premier’s Reading Challenge can be found at: www.prc.sa.edu.au Who can participate? All students from Reception to Year 12 are encouraged to participate. What can students read? Students can read a combination of books from the Challenge booklists and books of their own choosing. The book lists are available on the PRC website. Reception to Year 7 students select at least eight books from the booklists on the Premier’s Reading Challenge website and four books of their own choice. PRC books are labelled in our library.

SCHOOL CARD 2019 School card application forms are available at the Office for families wishing to claim the school card rebate this year. Please note that if you believe you are eligible for the school card rebate annually then you must fill out a new application form each year.

PARKING West Torrens Council have been monitoring the parking zones and limits to the kerbside parking in front of the school adjacent to the school crossing. We hope this will stop illegal parking and congestion around the school pedestrian crossing. Under the road traffic act the following rules need to be applied: NO PARKING or STOPPING AT ANY TIME You must not stop or park your vehicle in any

area where a No Stopping sign or a continuous yellow edge line applies, even to pick-up or set down passengers.

NO PARKING sign with times listed indicate that no long term parking is allowed during the times indicated on the signs (8am to 9am & 3pm to 4pm). However, you can use this space for drop–offs and pick-up but with the following rules:- You do not leave the vehicle unattended–that

is move more than 3 metres away You must complete the drop off/pick up as
