5 Operation

Before initial operation of the system, there is a setup procedure for the controller and anArray Evaluation function for the light source(s). Once an initial Array Evaluation is done, parameters are stored and displayed for that particular Array. At regular intervals to bedetermined, there is a Verification function that should be performed which repeats thetesting of the Array and checks to see if any characteristic parameters have changed. Thiscould indicate a faulty LED in the Array and a change in electrical performance. If it isdetermined that sufficient light is still available for curing, performing the Array Evaluationfunction again will reset the numbers to the new values and this becomes the newbenchmark for operating this particular Array.

Operator Control Panel:

5.1 MAIN MENU –SYSTEM IDLE

Pressing the MAIN MENU button on the operator panel will bring up the MainMenu screen onto the four line message display and take the system out of the RunMode. The screen will display the following:

Main Menu- System IdleRun ModeController ParametersArray Evaluation

By default the cursor will be on Run Mode so using the up and down arrows, thecursor will be moved to a different selection.

5.2 ARRAY EVALUATION AND VERIFICATION

The system must be in Fault Latching Mode. (see SETTING CONTROLLERPARAMETERS page 10)

From the Main Menu, use the Down Arrow to move the cursor to Array Evaluationand press ENTER. The display will show Channel 1 thru 4. Move the cursor to thechannel desired and press ENTER. You have the choice to perform the ArrayEvaluation and reset the baseline performance parameters or to select VerifyEvaluation. Move the cursor up or down to make the choice and press ENTER tobegin the process.

The selected Array will be cycled several times with steps of increasing lightintensity. Data is internally collected and a line is computed from that data. Slope(m), y intercept (b) and linear regression (r) are displayed at the conclusion of theEvaluation for that channel. When the Verify Evaluation is done some time later, the new m, b and r numbers are displayed on the same screen as the originalEvaluation data for a visual comparison.

During normal Run Mode operation, the data is used to tell the controller how thatparticular Array reacts to current/voltage so that current control is preciselymaintained at any light intensity setting.

5.3 SETTING CONTROLLER PARAMETERS

5.3.1 CHANNEL PARAMETERS

From the Main Menu, use the Down Arrow to move the cursor to ControllerParameters and press ENTER. The display will give the option for CHANNELParameters or SYSTEM parameters. Press ENTER with the cursor on CHANNELParameters and the display will show Channel 1-4. Move the cursor to the channeldesired and press ENTER.The screen will be displaying the Channel number and mode, the type of Array thatis connected, the cycle time and intensity % settings.

Channel Mode

With the cursor on Channel, press enter to change modes. Using the up or downarrows step through the selections: DISABLED, TIMER or MOMENTARY. PressENTER to make the choice. If TIMER is selected, the cycle On Time in msec isdisplayed on the third line of the screen. For Channels 2-4 another mode ispossible: SLAVE. When any channels are in SLAVE mode, they will come on forthe duration of Channel 1 which acts as the MASTER for this mode. Any channelthat is set up in either TIMER or MOMENTARY mode will work independentlyusing its own footswitch to trigger the cycle.

Array Type

The array type is automatically detected when it is connected via the 26 pincommunications cable to the controller or expansion unit. The light pattern and thewavelength of that array are displayed. If no array is connected, the type is“undefined”.

On Time (msec)

If the channel mode is TIMER, the current on time for a cure cycle is displayed. Ifthe mode is SLAVE, the cycle time will come from the Channel 1 timer value. Tochange the cycle time, use the down arrow to move the cursor to ON TIME andpress enter. Move the cursor right or left to position over the digit to be modifiedand use the up and down arrows to change the value. When done press ENTER.The time displayed is in milliseconds so, for example, 5.2 seconds will be displayedas 5200 milliseconds.

Intensity %

Each Channel has its own intensity setting. This allows for precise adjustmentbetween different arrays to dial in each one so all have exactly the same lightoutput. To change the Channel Intensity, use the down arrow to move the cursor toINTENSITY % and press enter. Move the cursor right or left to position over thedigit to be modified and use the up and down arrows to change the value. Whendone press ENTER. The maximum allowed value is 100%.

FAULT LATCHING ENABLED means the system cannot run in any faultcondition, it comes out of the RUN MODE and indicates the nature of the FAULT.CLEAR FAULT button must be pressed before restarting after the FAULT hasbeen corrected. FAULT LATCHING DISABLED means the system will indicatefaults on each cycle but the next start trigger clears the fault (except for over tempfaults) and allows the system to continue to run. Restarting does not requireoperator intervention.

POWERUP RUN DISABLED means the system will display the Main Menu afterpower is turned on and from there the RUN MODE can be selected. POWERUPRUN ENABLED means after any power up of the system, it automatically goesinto the RUN MODE awaiting a trigger signal. Pressing MAIN MENU or theoccurrence of any FAULT (with Fault Latching Enabled) will take the system outof RUN MODE.

5.4 RUN MODE

After the ARRAY EVALUATION and CONTROLLER PARAMETERS havebeen set, return to the Main Menu and the cursor will be over the RUN MODEselection. Notice that the SYSTEM READY light on the operator panel will beilluminated (green) if all the enabled channels are properly connected. PressENTER and the system will go into the Run Mode awaiting a Start Signal from afootswitch or external signal to begin.

The display will show the Channel Modes for each enabled channel.

Press the MAIN MENU button to exit the Run Mode and stop operations.

5.5 INDICATORS AND MESSAGES

Green LED System Ready

This panel light on the controller indicates that at least one channel is enabled andthat the connections to the Array are proper. There is another green light on thefront of the Array that also lights when the channel is enabled and connected. ForChannels 2-4 an Expansion module is needed. The green light on the front panel ofthe Expansion module lights when that channel is enabled.

Blue LED Cure Light OnThis light illuminates whenever any LED Array is ON

Red LED Fault

When trying to enter the run mode, the Red Fault light will come on if no channelsare enabled. A text message is displayed explaining the fault.

CAUTION:

The LED Array is best suited for vertical use with the light exiting downward. Thisgives the assembly the most efficient cooling. Horizontal use is also acceptable butthe unit will run a bit hotter. Vertical use with the light exiting upward is notrecommended unless the duty cycle is less than 80% at 100% output intensity.Exceeding this duty cycle could result in over temperature and THERMAL FAULTconditions.

6 Using External Control

6.1 Using START Inputs for Automation Integration

The four START inputs on the rear panel of the Controller are for Footswitchconnections, or any contact closure to initiate a cycle. The 9 pin D-SUB connectorsutilize pins 1 and 9 to make a contact closure via the footswitch to start a cycle. Pin1 puts out +5 VDC and pin 9 takes it to ground.

Page 12: Loctite CL20 LED ARRAY 4 CHANNEL SYSTEM · 16.03.2012  · benchmark for operating this particular Array. Operator Control Panel: 5.1 MAIN MENU –SYSTEM IDLE Pressing the MAIN MENU
