Exalted Ruler’s Message

Hello Members,

I hope this message finds you all in good health. We have had an exciting month capping off May with the state convention in Orlando at the world’s largest Marriot Ho-tel! I also attended some classes that will help with the operations of the Lodge. It was my pleasure to initi-ate five new members to the Lodge. We are also experi-encing a lot of interest in our hall and tiki bar for rentals and charity affairs!

Please don't forget our June 13th meeting where we will be discussing a rule change to the bar and dues for next year. At the July 11th meeting, we will continue these ef-forts to improve revenue for the Lodge. A rule change to any revenue raised under our roof or in the name of the Elks shall pay a minimum of 10% to the general fund of the Lodge. Hall rental prices and procedures and clean-ing fees will also be discussed.

Ray Kramer is chosen as Elk of the Month. Thank you Ray for all the time and effort you have given us! Ray is our Kitchen Manager, for those of you who may not know, and he has really improved the cleanliness and quality practices in our kitchen, not to mention keeping us fed every Wednesday! Ray is a great example of Elkdom. Once again Thank You!

This Saturday, June 3rd, is our Lodge visitation. This will be the first time the district has been here since all of our im-provements! We still have many last minute tasks, I'm asking for volunteers to help out Saturday morning at 10am. Please help out if you can. I want to make the best impression possi-ble for our Lodge. The dress theme is Hawaiian in casual to casual smart. You won’t ever find a better deal for dinner at only five bucks! Please show up in force to represent our Lodge.

Thank you all for your continued support.

Hello All !

I was so proud to present 6 scholarships this year to our Tarpon Springs High School students on behalf of the Lodge. I also presented our very first “John Holland” scholarship on behalf of the Ladies. This could never happen without all the support of our members during the year who support our functions, 50/50’s, and gift baskets. As you can see, it all goes to a good cause.

Nancy Gorby and I attended this year’s State convention in Orlando. As usual, a good time was had by all. It is so great to see what the Elks organization is all about and how ALL Elks give back to their communities and those in need. We should all be proud that we are members.

The ladies are continuing to plan events for this year. We are planning our yearly fashion show, Food around the world, St. Patrick’s Day, bake sale and possibly some other fun things throughout the year. You can bet we will have some great baskets too!

We will not be having a meeting in June but will resume back in July. Don’t forget to support the ladies on the third Friday of the month for fish fry.

Fraternally,

Susan Kikta

A little history about the American Flag & Military funerals:

Did you know that at military funerals, the 21 gun salute stands for the sum of the numbers in the year 1776?

Have you ever noticed the Honor Guard pays meticulous attention to correctly folding the flag 13 times? You

probably thought it was to symbolize the original 13 colonies, but it’s not. Read on to learn.

THE 1ST FOLD of our flag is a symbol of life.

THE 2ND FOLD is a symbol of our belief in eternal life. THE 3RD FOLD is made in honor and remembrance of the veterans departing our ranks who gave a portion of

their lives for the defense of our country to attain peace throughout the world.

THE 4TH FOLD represents our weaker nature, for as American citizens trusting in God, it is to Him we turn in

times of peace as well as in times of war, for His divine guidance.

THE 5TH FOLD is a tribute to our country, for in the words of Stephen Decatur, “Our Country, in dealing with

other countries, may she always be right, but it is still our Country, right or wrong.” THE 6TH FOLD is for where our hearts lie. It is with our heart that we pledge allegiance to the flag of the

United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation, under God, indivisible, with

Liberty and Justice for all.

THE 7TH FOLD is a tribute to our Armed Forces, for it is through them that we protect our country and our

flag against all her enemies, whether they be found within or without the boundaries of our republic. THE 8TH FOLD is a tribute to the one who entered into the valley of the shadow of death, that we may see the

light of day.

THE 9TH FOLD is a tribute to womanhood and Mothers. For it has been through their faith, their love, their

loyalty, and their devotion that the character of the men and women who have made this country great, has

been molded.

THE 10TH FOLD is a tribute to the father, for he too has given his sons and daughters for the defense of our country since they were first born.

THE 11TH FOLD represents the lower portion of the seal of King David and King Solomon, and glorifies in the

Hebrews eyes, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

THE 12TH FOLD represents an emblem of eternity, and glorifies in the Christians’ eyes, God, the Father, the

Son, and the Holy Spirit. THE 13TH FOLD, or when the flag is completely folded, the stars are in the uppermost, reminding us of our

nation’s motto, In God We Trust.

After the flag is folded, then tucked in, it takes on the appearance of a cocked hat, ever reminding us of the

soldiers who served under General George Washington, and the Sailors and Marines who served under Captain

Jon Paul Jones, who were followed by their comrades and shipmates in the Armed Forces of the United States, preserving for us the rights, privileges, and freedoms we enjoy today. There are some traditions and ways of

doing things that have deep meaning. In the future, you’ll see flags folded, and now you will know why. Share

this with the children you love, and all others who love the symbol of “Liberty and Freedom!”

—————————————-

I would like to add my prayer of thanks for those men and women who sacrificed their lives in service to our country. May they rest in peace.

Fraternally, Bob Gorby, LK, PER
