I don't think I can give a fair review of the Dual-Arcs yet. Bu t I will tell you my experience so far. The

light in the room looks much more like sunlight to me, which says very little about how the plants like it.

The temps have not been bad at all, I cool two hoods with an 8" fan and the glass is only luke warm to

the touch and the hoods have heat shields and insulated ducting so I am getting almost no added heat

to my room. I have already had 1 blow out on me, but they come with a 1 year warranty so my local

hydro store swapped me a new one, no charge. I plan to replace them after a year anyways so that

basically covers me even if they blow out constantly. Still, I did not enjoy walking into my grow room at

2pm and finding a completely dark room when the lights should have been on at 8am. . . The plants are

responding well to the light at between 24-30" away from the bulb and I have not tried letting it get

closer because I need to keep my light footprint at 4x4' to cover all my bud sites. I will think about how I

could run a test side by side without the two overlapping slightly using an HPS and a Dual-Arc in the

future. That will be at least 6 months down the road I would say though. Anyways, I will for sure post a

review of what I think after harvest. Still tough to say anything for sure without running the same strain

in the same environment with just a light change.

Wow! They look great! F or some reason I have never had good results starting seeds in cocoa. I use

cana as well. I'm not entirely sure that its the medium though, my environment is very small and

packed, so without the initial nutrition that soil provides I think they have a harder time dealing with

the sometimes stressfull conditions. Any tips on starting seedlings in coco? I actually sprout in rapid

rooters then transplant to coco or soil/soiless mix when roots pop the rooters. Anyway, looking great

Sorry to disappoint you and Goo, but the falcon in those shots was actually just in my way, it was being

To be honest I have not spent much time reading your threads, but I do not have you confused with

anybody. You have a solid post count and you are a moderator with what I consider I high reputation.

Spending enough time on this forum to have that kind of rep and that post count in under 2 years

accounts to a lot of experience in my book. Maybe not hands on with a giant operation like Jack or

someone else similar, but Jack was a newbie with a green thumb and a lot of cash, IMHO I think too

many people try to copy him down to the detail and make him out to be more than he is/was. All my

respect to his operation and success, but we can't all start out with that kind of cash/space/power.

What I'm trying to say is that your experience can be just as valuable or more.

Looking pimp meeks those stalks are massive gonna be some nice buds on those bushes.....nice snag

with the beans to a spot near me just got some some of his wifi a nd th e white in but the wifi already sold

out but I hopefully will have a pack of the white soon dieing to run some raskal beans!

showing crazy yellowing leaves. I've been foliar feeding with all sorts of things like magic green,

floralicious plus and liquid bat guano but I can't seem to be catching up to make the leaves greener.

On another note. Picked some white fire alien from aec yesterday. Can't be more excited!

Good to see you Mitch, massive stalks for sure! I regret not putting something next to them for scale,

but the base is for sure wider that th e wide side of a lighter so maybe ill put one in the next pic session I

do. I am having a great first experience with Raskal gear, I hope you get your hands on some, you

would ha ve that perfect canopy with pure white nugs. Good luck scoring a pack!

Do you have a thread in the infirmary with pictures and the proper information to go with it? Or a grow

log with pics and details about your setup etc. ? If you do drop a link to it in here and I will take a look,

but I'm really no expert on treating a sick plant. All I ca n refer you back to is my post a bout foliar and

pH a couple pages back. You will see that I mention 50% of nitrogen applied to the leaf surface is

The wheels on my tables came in clutch that day my Dual-Arc burnt out. I just plugged in my other

ballast and fired up the light next to it and swapped the tables. Probably would ha ve been just as easy to

move the 4 plants over to the other table but I enjoyed having the ability to do it the way I did. I also

slide the table out almost every day to get to the side or behind the tray and access the back 2 plants.

The wheels combined with the reservoir platform allow me to have everything hard plumbed into the

reservoir and up to the individual plant drip lines and still be able to be moving it around the way I do.

Down side is the height under the table it takes up, although so far with my LST and ScrOG that has

Thanks for the fresh info from your Prof. regarding the extent of the usefulness of foliar feeds, it's really

nice to have some quantified results.

On a side note, I think I know why your bulb popped you're running a digi ballast with a bulb that was

designed to be run on magnetic. Said so on the page you posted the link to. I followed that carefully

because I've used the dual-arc bulbs with no issues at all, but I ran mag. ballasts with them exclusively

(not a snob thing, more a poor thing, lol). Since you've got a shop stadning behind them, I see no

reason to change things but this does make me wonder if there is a way to set up a 'darkenss alarm' to

Thanks for reading through the whole thread! Glad you enjoyed it. I was very happy to find out what I

did from my professor, I am glad that a number of people are getting something out of it like I did. And

yes, first hand experience is great, but real research and quantified results are way better.

That is a very interesting point about my bulb you make. I never noticed that it says what it does on the

website before checking it out a gain just this morning. I did some research a nd learned a few things

that ill share here now. First I'll start by copying in a part of both Eye-Hortilux and SunMaster's FAQ

sections:

Sunmaster/Eye-Hortilux(Both companies have the exact same FAQ answer with just their company

name changed) lamps work equally well as any competitive brand on electronic ballasts.

Performance really dep ends on the quality of the electronic ballast and the ability of the ballast

manufacture to produce consistently good products.

Magnetic c ore & coil ballasts are mad e to conform to AN SI Standards. ANSI is the American

National Standard s Institute which establishes specific designations on how HID lamps are to

perform electrically. This designation ensures that a ll lamp brand s work interchangeably on ANSI

compatible ballasts. For example, all major brand LU1000 lamps comply with ANSI S52, and when

matched with a ballast designated ANSI S52, the consumer is assured the lamp and ballast are

matched correctly. All major lamp brands currently comply with these ANSI standards, and have for

decades.

Most electronic ballasts do not comply with ANSI ratings. This means that each electronic ballastbrand can be different. Compound this with actual va9riations in the production runs from the same

manufacturer/brand and you can see why system dependability is easily compromised. These are

clearly NOT lamp issues but ballast challenges to be improved upon. If you chose to operate our lamp

on a ballast that does not meet ANSI specifications, lamp life and performance MAY be dramatically

reduced. Since the quality of artificial light is paramount to successful plant photosynthesis and

optimum growth, it would be ill-advised to compromise lamp performance in favor of unproven

ballast technology.

So even though SunMaster puts a little bullet point next to all their bulbs saying they are "Electronic

Ballast Friendly", the company still admits that their bulbs are not designed for digital ballasts and does

not claim any better results that Eye-Hortilux. Both companies say the bulbs are rated ANSI S52, but

only one says electronic ballast friendly. . . leads me to believe SunMaster is just better at marketing and

knowing what will sell more bulbs. I would hope that my Quantum ballasts are of high enough quality

that they will work well with these or any other 1000w bulb, but after already experiencing 1 burn out,

maybe they aren't. I will keep all this in mind and if I experience problems again in the future I willbring it to my hydro stores attention and possibly swap bulbs or ballasts to a different type. Thanks for

the heads up!

The double layer screen was my design after a year of having all 6 of my plants stuck in position once

they grew through a single screen. I decided that individual screens were the only way to go for access

to all sides of the plant, and for transport of the plant for any reason. The double layer was also added

after some experience with a single layer screen. I would train my branches for an even canopy in a

single screen, but by the end of stretch they would often have taken their own path, and a few nugs

would always g row together and crowd out the light for lower buds. The idea behind the double layer

screen, with the lower screen being less area that the top screen, was to spread the canopy once, let the

plants stretch to the second layer, and then re-spread the canopy to allow maximum light penetration

and also provide nug support up top. So far they are working great!

I constructed them with materials from Home Depot if you would like to recreate it similar to mine. In

their gardening section they sell a variety of plant supports near the trellis section in my home depot.

One of those supports is a 3 legged tomato cage support that has 2 layers of rings held up by the 3 legs.

They call it "GrowTall 18 in. x 36 in. Double Plant Support". To construct my double layer ScrOG, I

purchased 4 of these supports for every 3 I wanted to build. The idea being, each support only comes

with 3 legs, but to create a square, I needed 4 legs per set, so I would steal the legs from the extra 4th

support to complete the first 3. Following so far? Ok, so after adding a 4th legs to all the supports I

removed the top ring on each. I used thin bamboo, but you could used anything that will hold straight

under a little tension, to create a square in-place of the top ring. Bend the support legs as needed to

allow for the expansion from the 18" ring to the 24" square. If you have a stretchier, or less stretchy

strain, you can shrink or expand the square dimensions, which will raise or lower the gap between first

and second layer. Still following? Now that you have a ring first layer, and a square second layer, youare ready for the final two steps. First, use your method of choice to attach a screen to the ring layer,

followed by the square layer after (you will block your access to the ring layer if you screen the square

off first). Second, put the whole support setup into a pot filled with media but no plant and check the

height of the ring layer above the media. You want to cut length off the bottom of the legs in order to

drop the ring layer down as low to the media as your trained plants can handle. Mine was maybe 3"

above the media (after cutting the legs), and my plants have pushed it up to about 4" at this point.

Pliers work great for bending the legs back and forth till they snap. There you have it! If you got lost, go

out and buy what I'm talking about and you will be able to re-read this while holding it in your hands

and it will make more sense. If your still lost, let me know and I'll post up pics next time I make them

for the White Urkles.

I hope that helps get you started, and thanks again for stopping in and taking such a close look at

No internet is killer. Thanks for the encouragement, seeing the first flush of trichome production on the

new fruits has been very exciting, but nothing compared to seeing them swell up over the next month+!

Fire, White Skunk x2, White Fire Alien, Fire Alien Kush, and hopefully White Sour D a.s.a.p. !! The

crazy thing is, I still feel like the Fire Urkle is calling my name, and I cannot wait for Alien (breeder) and

ANSI S52 is th e standard that both bulbs and ballasts are supposed to conform to. There a re a very few

digi. ballasts that actually do conform to this standard, most don't, so you take your chances. There are

bulb mfrs. that purport to build their bulbs specifically for digi ballast applications, Sunpu lse is one of

these. No idea how well their bulbs actually work, however.

That said, I'm seeing a lot of experienced growers turning away from digi and back to mag, even for big

grows, so I'm not alone in my skepticism. I think the industry has some work to do to get this issue

resolved, because it's a serious waste of money and resources for growers at the moment!

I would very much like to see pics of how you built your screens. I believe I have all the gear you

suggested buying- but for the life of me, I can't figure out how you take 4 tomato cages and make 3

square screens from them. This is actually a problem I've been trying to solve with my own setup for

some time now, so the help would be timely!

About the only difference between my application and yours is that I'm running 8" netpots on 5 ga llon

buckets in a DIY RDWC system. I am pla nning to mount the cages to the 8" netpots, but other th anthat I think the buildout would be pretty similar.

BTW, nice info from the Pro.! i grow completely organic feeding my ladies only molasses and water for17 weeks( plus lacto bacillus and active dry yeast once each late veg) and love hearing studies like that

done!!! very cool! i use a very special PNW handmade mix that can feed heavy feeders like OG and lite

feeders like blueberry! ie...alfalfa meal, soybean meal, rice hulls, bio tone, kelp meal, bone meal, and

other amendments.....no guano, no blood meal...doesnt hold up very well! all the fowl smell that comes

during the cook and after is all your $$$ evaporating into the air! the mix i use is reusable, a friend is

on his 8th recycle! add a full recipe into used soil and cook 20 days and good to go! and theres enough

nutes left in the mix after each harvest that its perfect to use for starters, or when replanting into large

containers with the hot on the bottom and the old on top! i just inoculate each cutting during each

transplant! ....deficiencies are a thing of the past! for scrogging its perfect...gravity drip feed, and never

need to feed again and can focus mainly of the canopy!!!! the most important part!! IMO i love

organics, my recipe will stack up to any synthetic for trich development and kills it in flavor! IMO!

I'm glad you decided to post that BHO ramble, lol! I have planned to enter the world of organic soil

since the start of this room build out, I just couldn't bring myself to do it for the first few rounds out of

fear for losing my first few crops to inexperience. Your re-usable soil recipe sounds great, and I would

love a detailed recipe that I could follow (if its not a secret recipe). Maybe shoot me a PM or post it here,

either is fine, or if you decide to do a DIY thread drop a link in here. I am planning to re-do a 4x15 bed

in my backyard for a spring/summer/fall outdoor vegetable/flower garden so the fact that both heavy

and light feeders do well in your mix sounds like it would work perfect for an assortment of crops. I

look forward to hearing more about it!

Washington d oes its own thing when it comes to weed in my experience. They like their buds less

trimmed, and they manage to avoid strain hype for the most part (besides everyones love for Grape

Ape). I enjoy visiting up there because no matter what my tolerance is to Cali da nk, I can take a couple

hits up there and be blown. I am excited to visit Seattle for Thanksgiving.

I have been getting my beans from a club here in Cali. Unfortunately they are not available on the farm

anymore. I have heard rumors of a different site maybe getting a drop of them soon, but I don't even

know what site or if its true at all.

stage it seems like the girls are eating too much to make some of the leaves lush again. I know the

problem isn't getting worse. I can see the green making its way up the plant.

You know it! I did some thinning out around week 3 for some lower branches that had shot up after my

original thinning at week 2, the stems I chopped had already developed some pistils and trichomes and

so I put a group of 15 or so into a thin flower vase and kept it on my night stand. The smells were

amazing, just a wave of this super dank kush smell, I don't know how else to describe it. Everytime I

thought I put a finger on what the scent was, sweet, pepper, lemon, I just got completely lost in how it

makes my whole nose feel moist and no other word came to mind besides DANK! I am sure the smell

will develop more over the next coup le weeks, they just got their first flush of trichomes the day before I

posted those macro shots, so this is just the beginning! :banana1sv6:

Sorry bro, but I'm outta town and then real busy with school for at least a little while. It really is not

compacted. if you have the proper cages, you should have 3 legs per cage with 2 rings holding themtogether. unhook both rings from themselves (the rings are just a wire made into a ring and hooked on

itself) and then slide the 3 legs completely free of the now incomplete rings. These are the 3 legs you will

add to your other 3 cages. now take 1 leg and add it to a cage by the same method you separated them

but reversed since you are ad ding a leg to the rings not removing.so unhook the ring from itself, pass it

through the loop on the leg, then repeat with the top loop on the leg and with the top ring. now you

have a 4 legged cage with 2 ring layers. now completely remove the top ring and replace it with your

square. I know pictures would help, but I can't get that for you until I have the time to spare, and thats

not right now. I hope this is enough to get you started, and I figured it out with no instructions just

trying to make something work and it just went together no problem, so i'm sure you can figure this out

if you give it a shot.

Okay- I think I figured out the issue my cages are spot welded, no bent wire holding things together.

I'll go to Home De Pot tomorrow and see what I can find. Thanks for the explanation, and good luck

with your studies- even thou gh you're probably learning more in your lil hame garden test kitchen,

By the way, if you come across any more of those lil tidbits of knowlege, like the quantified foliar feeding

That is strange that yours are spot welded. I kinda had a feeling you had a different product than me,

because I just kinda started taking th ings a part wh en I bought them, and it all reconstructed in the 4

legged model pretty easily, so when you were having trouble, I assumed something else was wrong. I

definitely learn an enormous amount in my grow room. What I don't learn are the things that are not

visible to the na ked eye, or only visible over a long time scale with close observation and records. Thats

were my classes come in. Others ha ve done the research, published it, a nd a dapted techniques upon it. I

will be taking a few classes that should give me a wealth of knowledge a bout similar technique to

growing cannabis, one of them is called "Potted Plant Production" and "Hydroponics Enterprise (thats

in the greenhouse I posted pics of)" and right now I'm in "Irrigation Management". Its all very

interesting and I will definitely post up anything I feel I can summarize correctly that relates to our

industry. The only downside to my classes is they generally focus on larger scale agriculture, not small

scale high value production. Anyways, good luck on your HomeDepot search. I will PM you the product

link so you can just show that to HomeDepot employees.

Thanks MG, that means a lot, I hope that one day I can do a log of a dialed run with super detailed

notes of my feedings and everything so that someone can follow my steps easily. For now, I have been

avoiding the temptation to post my feeding info, because not all my plants have been the happiest, so I

It has been a little while since my last update, I took a quick vacation for Thanksgiving, and left my

camera up north when I came back on accident. Luckily I knew where I had left it, and got it shipped

down to me ASAP. Took some shots last night and this morning, so here is an update:

First a note about how stupid I can be sometimes. I had my veg closet MH bulb being air cooled and the

hot air was being ducted out and aimed towards my air conditioner. My logic was to cool the hot air

down as quick as possible by mixing it with the new cool air from the A/C. Wrong! I forgot that the

humidistat is currently located inside the A/C indoor unit, and so it constantly thought my room was

too hot, and would run excessively. I didn't catch the problem to quickly either, I just starting noticing

that my buds were not swelling or frosting up as much as I expected them to be at week 4.5, and

discovered the problem. : swear

So with that in mind, you will most likely see the results of too cold an environment, and may also

explain why my plants were showing signs of the claw (with slowed growth, and the same level of

nutrients, they experienced a toxicity). Here they are looking more like week 3 plants should in my

opinion.

Comments about experience with multi-phenotype grows from seed and how to handle different

make a batch...pull some out for plant D..PH it...drip clean (if u use it), feed!

now just.... pull out another gallon of the batch, add RO water till the PPMs drop at least

100..........PH....drip clean....feed the least struggling plant...

repeat this lowering the PPMs each time according the health of each plant!

drip clean is good stuff, if you dont already use it!

Looks to me like your lowest branches should have been cut off back on week 1 or 2. Proper chopping

early makes a HUGE difference. Just have to make sure not to cut too much all at once.

Too low temp also causes issues. Have to let em get to at least 75 F. in flower (without CO2, with CO2

82-84 F. is ideal) each day to get them to perform 100%.

You'll get 'em to chunk up bro.
