EIGHT EASY WAYS TO FUNDRAISE
IN A TOUGH ECONOMIC CLIMATE, BEING CREATIVE WITH YOUR FUNDRAISING EFFORTS IS EVEN MORE IMPORTANT. GIVE
DONORS SOMETHING TO ATTEND OR TAKE PART IN AND WATCH THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS GROW! CHECK OUT THE EASY IDEAS
BELOW AND COME UP WITH YOUR OWN! 1. Web Site Creation – Once you register online, you will have access to your own personal fundraising website. You can personalize your site with your own pictures and stories, send emails straight from your site to everyone on your contact list, and encourage them to donate to your fundraising efforts. You can post a direct link to your donation page on Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter etc. 2. Plushland – Sell these cute bears to raise money for your team! To get started on your fundraiser, visit www.plushland.com or call 1-888-500-8697. 3. Ask - Your Doctor/Therapist/Veterinarian/Insurance Agent/Mechanic – to make a check out to you instead of the other way around! Ask them to support your fundraising efforts with a donation to you or your team. 4. Add a special signature line to your Email accounts – You can include a link to your fundraising page with every email you send. This feature is often located under “Options” on most email programs. Use something like “Visit my Walk Now for Hemophilia Walk page”. 5. Money Jar – Ask your local stores, medical offices, restaurants, salons, etc. (places you give business to!) to place a money jar at the front counter. Check with the manager. 6. House Party – This is a really fun way to fundraise! Charge “admission” or a “cover charge” (﴾set a minimum such as “$20 or more to attend)﴿.”
7. Town Clubs and Organizations – Send a solicitation letter to your local Knights of Columbus, Lions club, Rotary club, Kiwanis, Masonic Lodge, etc. They support individuals in their communities! 8. Newsletter – Ask if your company, church, community or membership group distributes a monthly newsletter. Can they send a group or company-wide email? Take advantage of these outlets! It's a perfect way to get the word out. Be sure to include a link to your fundraising page for easy donating.
** The BDFWA requests that teams carefully consider their fund-raising efforts.**
During the planning of any event, ask these questions:
Is it ethical?
Is it offensive to ANY group?

2. Include how dollars raised will be used.
3. Mail /e-mail it to family members, friends, co-workers and business associates (try using your holiday card mailing list) as soon as possible.

better!
5. Be sure to say that donations are tax-deductible and that checks should be made payable to the Bleeding Disorder Foundation of Washington (BDFWA).

SAMPLE FUNDRAISING LETTER
Phone: 206.533.1660 Website: www.bdfwa.org Dear XXXX, We are ready to kick-off the 2013 Washington State Hemophilia Walk and with your support will make a huge difference to our bleeding disorder community once again this year! I ask you to join me in this important endeavor. We dedicate this important event to all of those who have helped us get to where we are today – a vital bleeding disorder community which supports everyone in Washington to live strong, healthy and productive lives. This would not be where we are today if not for those who have walked in our steps. They have definitely paved the way for a future filled with opportunity. The Walk is an event that will bring us all together at Green Lake Park in Seattle on Saturday October 26. This walk is part of a national program that over the past four years has raised almost $5.5 million and significantly increased awareness for people who deal with bleeding disorders daily. We have set an aggressive goal for the Washington State Hemophilia Walk of $50,000 by bringing together over 500 walkers to honor our past and celebrate the future. The money we raise will be used to continue to offer the strong program and services of the Bleeding Disorder Foundation of Washington. Support will also be designated to on-going research that seeks to deliver treatment alternatives for even better outcomes. We can’t make all this happen without you! Please partner with us and support the 2013 Walk. There are so many ways to get involved. Be a team captain. Hold a fundraising event. Help us secure a local sponsor. But – whatever you choose to do – please mark your calendar and make sure you are there with us all on September 15. Please feel free to contact our Walk Coordinator at [email protected] or 206-533-1660. Help us make each step count! And in advance, thanks for joining me on this important journey. Sincerely,
BECOME A TEAM CAPTAIN!
WHAT IS A TEAM? A team is a group of people who come together to support the
Hemophilia Walk. It can bemadeup of family, friends, neighbors, classmates, co-workers, ormembersof your bookclub, place of
worship, sewingclub, & more. Forming a team is a fun way to raise money for the Walk, and it’s EASY to do! Thestep-by-step instructionswillhelp
youleada winning team.
1. Register your team online. Go to www.hemophila.org/walk. Find the walk you want to join, choose a name for your team and sign up.
2. Set a goal. To get started, first set a goal of number of walkers you plan to recruit for your team, there is no limit to how big your team can be. The success of a walk depends on the numbers of participants and the amount of money that’s raised. The more money that is raised, the more people we can help with bleeding disorders so set a high team fundraising goal!
3. Create your fundraising page. Design your own fundraising page
online. Tell everyone why you are participating in the Hemophilia Walk. Make it personal– post photos!
4. Spread the word. Write letters or send e-mails to friends and
family asking them to support your efforts. Tell them how easy it is to donate online or send you a check. Talk about your team to anyone who will listen! Word of mouth is often the best way to promote what you are doing and you are doing it for a great cause!
5. Gather support. Ask your friends, family and co-workers to join
you as a team member. Ask them to sign up online under your team name and set a goal for themselves. We encourage all
walkers to use their personal fundraising webpage and/or to write a fundraising letter and send it to their personal contact list.
6. Communicate with your team. Staying connected to your team
keeps their energy and excitement up and gives everyone an opportunity to share their fundraising ideas. Some communication ideas include: telephone updates, weekly emails and at least one team meeting.
7. Stay in touch with the local chapter staff. Let them know your
fundraising challenges and successes. They can give you ideas that have worked for other teams and send you materials.
8. Create your team identity. Create a team T-shirt, buttons, or hats
for your team to wear on walk day.
9. Attend the WALK! Make sure your team makes a big impact with colorful T-shirts and/or accessories. Don’t forget to bring all pledges and pledge forms to the Walk. All your hard work has paid off and now it’s time to celebrate with your team and have fun!
TEAM FAQ Who should be the Team Captain? The person who has the most leadership skills on the team and is able to give the most time to the project is typically the most successful, but anyone with passion can do it!
Is there a minimum or maximum number of walkers on a team? No. Teams can be as small as two or three walkers, or as large as hundreds of walkers. What kind of support and instruction do Team Captains receive?
The Team Captains will receive all the materials, instructions and inspiration you’ll need by email. Each week Team Captains will receive pre-walk progress reports that contain team-building and fundraising tips.
How are funds raised through my team? Individual tem members are responsible for setting personal fundraising goals and raising funds from family, friends and co-workers. Teams can also conduct special events to raise money.
Can I walk even if I don’t form a team? Of course!! While we think you’ll have more fun if you join a team, many walkers choose to walk individually.
How do we raise money? Write a letter or send an email to friends and family asking for their support. Our website, www.hemophilia.org/walk, offers a safe and secure way to send a donation. If you collect checks, bring them with you to the Walk.
How is the money collected? Funds raised outside of the online fundraising tools are the responsibility of the team members to turn in their donations into their team captain, or to forward them to their local chapter. Be sure the name of the walker and the team name are in the memo. You can also turn in those last minute check or cash donations at the walk.
TEAM T-SHIRTS
TEAM T-SHIRTS MAKE THE TEAM!
MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE, TEAM T-SHIRTS UNITE A GROUP OF
WALKERS AS A TEAM THE DAY OF A WALK. 1. They should be bright and colorful so the Team wearing them STANDS
OUT as much as possible the day of the Walk. 2. The designs, logos and slogans on them should be as creative and
unique as possible so they are a conversation piece both during and after the Walk. Team T-shirts are (in effect) walking billboards showing your business, organization or family team’s support for hemophilia awareness.
3. A great way for a business or family team to develop creative and
unique designs for its Team T-shirt is to sponsor a T-shirt design contest.
4. Team T-shirt designs should include both the name of the
business, organization or family; and the name Washington State Hemophilia Walk & logo of the Walk.
5. An important point to remember is that Team T-shirts are paid for by
the Team so that every dollar raised in the Walk will go to support the National Hemophilia Foundation and its outstanding programs.
6. Another important thing to remember about Team T-shirts is that they are a very effective WALKER RECRUITMENT TOOL if publicized and promoted by the team captain prior to the Walk. They are also a great way to thank walkers for their support.
