The Course of Empire is a five-part series of paintings created by Thomas Cole in the years 1834-36. It is notable in part for reflecting popular American sentiments of the times, when many saw pastoralism as the ideal state of humanity civilisation, while fearing that an empire would lead to gluttony and an inevitable decay.

character based, time-based, expressionistic, etc.)

Drawers – either 1 single narrative piece (like a Rockwell or Rose-Garcia) OR a

short series of work that tell a story
