Logistics is like the air …

•Is involved in most of our lives, some times we “see” it sometimes is there but we cannot see it(use some humor for examples)

-When I am behind a truck in the interstate at 50 mph when I wish I could go faster …. You are seeing transportation-When in your supermarket you don’t find your favorite brand of crackers … you are seeing an inventory problem -When you return the radio that did not worked for you in Best Buy … You are not seeing what is called reverse logistics

•Will be very difficult live without it

•We take it for granted

•You noticed when is bad

•Critical point to business (without logistics the products go nowhere)

In a nutshell …

•Logistics = right thing (including humans), at the right place, right time … and of course at the right price !

•When we created this logo for the career, we discover through some focus groups in several high schools in both sides of the river (100 students attended) .. That people just don’t know logistics … the tag line help

Some challenges:•Overlap among them•Different job names•Different salaries•Some positions are critical and fun but not perceived as “cool”or “hip”

•Not just trucks•Jobs includes the pilots/drivers, but also all the personal thatcoordinates the trips•Give Examples of careers:

•Dispatchers•Railroad engineers•Mechanics•Truck drivers … of course•Transportation managers

Distribution & Warehousing

•Purpose of Distribution Center -> Centralize products and Processes to deliver the products to vendors and customers in a cost effective way

•For example : Imagine if General Mills should send the Cheerio boxes to all the store locations of Wal-Mart … instead they will send larger but less shipment to the distribution centers (which usually are located in strategic places) , and then the company will distribute them to the stores.

Inventory Management

•Inventory Management what is huge is the use of technology -> the processes have evolved from paper to Bar code to RFID technology

Some of the regulations related with logistics are:

•FDA -> Give example of warehouse for supermarket•EPA•DOT•HazMat / OSHA
