logo design - first mockups for psiee - by aj snyder
TRANSCRIPT
Needs
Why use a logo? “PSIEE” is not a great acronym and our name is really long written out. A logo should be: • Unique and recognizable • Represent the organization • Look good on the Web, but also: • Print well • Look nice and be recognizable when tiny • Look good in one color • Be a useful size (not tall & skinny or too wide) • Be fresh and modern/on trend • … yet timeless.
Theory
What should the logo say or do? • #1 is be recognizable. • Can be used without a work mark. Re: designing the logos, these fall into one or more of these three categories: • “Safe” and timeless logos (more corporate style,
simple shapes) • Logos that are more figurative: they represent
something (Penn State, Collaboration, the natural world)
• Attractive, more artistic symbols. Meant to be abstract and not related to specifics. (Is recognizable for the organization, but so general that we can change themes/initiatives with no worries.)
Goals today: Narrow down to three or four top favorites among the staff • Including logo • And/or typeface for word mark (not required) • Not including colors Then I will send out the top favorites to Tom and the Design Focus Group for further discussion.
Disclaimer* These are mockups. Some are VERY rough mockups! They may be non- symmetrical, have imperfectly straight lines, fuzzy things, oddities, etc. The colors, the typefaces, the spacing etc. can all be changed. (And will be!)
