W hich sport is your
favorite? It’s im-
portant to know a person’s
favorite sport. That was a
question asked for a sur-
vey. The choices were soc-
cer, football, basketball,
baseball, golf, and other.
The people surveyed
were Press Friends report-
ers and a couple of men-
ranging from blue jays to
swans. The tour guide let us
touch a real life gopher
snake, but I wasn’t scared
because I knew that they
weren’t dangerous to hu-
mans. Our guide told us
that if we got bit, we just
needed to wash it off.
I also saw a lot of
plants and my favorite was
the cotton plant. I got to see
many animals such as the
turtle. I got to see the turtle
in this room where they put
animals in. I also saw frogs,
lizards, and many more. My
favorite part of the field trip
was when we got to go to
look through a microscope
and see things.
This field trip was one of
the best field trips I’ve ever
been to!

Awakens made about $170
million at the box office in
the United States during its
opening week. Also as of
February 7, 2016, it has
generated a global box of-
fice revenue of $2 Billion.
The movie stars Harri-
son Ford, Mark Hamill, Car-
rie Fisher, Adam Driver, Dai-
sy Ridley, John Boyega, Os-
car Isaac, Lupita Nyong'o,
Andy Serkis, Domhnall
Gleeson, Anthony Daniels,
Peter Mayhew, and Max von
Syndow.
The genre of Star Wars
is action. This story takes
place on several planets “in
a galaxy far far away.” This
movie is about a girl named
Rey and a man named Finn,
Rey and Finn try to defeat
the evil Kylo Ren.
I thought Star Wars: The
Force Awakens was a good
movie. There were only
some problems like…I don’t
want to say because that
would be spoiling the movie.
But other than that it’s a
good movie, Again Star Wars

T he Land of Stories se-
ries was written by
Chris Colfer.
Alex Bailey is one of
the main characters. She is
very studious and she is
considered the teacher’s
pet. She is also Conner
Bailey’s twin.
Conner Bailey is a per-
son who sleeps all day and
is very social. He also hates
his teacher, Mrs. Peters.
Froggy is a friend of the
twins and gives advice to
them during their journey in
the Land of Stories. Froggy
is also Prince Charming but
was cursed as a frog.
Red Riding Hood, as
known as Red, is a bit self-
ish and is smart. She is nice
to her people in her king-
dom.
Jack is now a grown
man and is famous for his
story, Jack and the Bean-
stalk.
Goldilocks is a criminal
and raids kingdoms. Fairy
Godmother is the grand-
mother for the twins and
controls the fairy council.
I think most people
would like this because it is
very exciting and adven-
turous. This book series is
full of action. According to
the comments of other stu-
dents, they think these
books are really long but
VERY addicting. I think eve-
ryone ages 8 and up would
enjoy these books. I suggest
that people should start
from the first book to the
next because they pick up
from where they left off.
This book can be recom-
mended for children 8 and
up, for both boys and girls.
THE LAND OF STORIES
By MARIA T.
Klaus likes to read
books to find information.
He is twelve years old.
The Bad Beginning is
about three Baudelaire
orphans whose parents
died. Now they live with
their relative Count Olaf.
Mr. Poe is in charge of
the family’s enormous for-
tune. Olaf knows about the
fortune and plans to steal
it. The orphans have to try
to stop Olaf by themselves
since Mr. Poe doesn’t be-
lieve them when they com-
plain to him about Count
Olaf. The story takes place
mostly at Count Olaf’s
house.
T he Bad Beginning is my
favorite book in the se-
ries of books called A Series
of Unfortunate Events
(SOUE). It also is the first
book in the series written by
Lemony Snicket.
The characters are Vio-
let, Klaus, and Sunny Bau-
delaire. Violet is the oldest
of the orphans and is an
inventor. Her first appear-
ance in SOUE is in The Bad
Beginning. When she’s
thinking about an invention,
she ties her hair in a ribbon.
Sunny is a baby that
likes to bite things. Her skills
are used to help them with
their unfortunate lives.
My favorite character
is Violet because she’s
smart and a good role
model because she is
smart.
I liked this story be-
cause after the orphans
solve a problem, another
one pops up. Also, the or-
phans keep trying despite
the obstacles.
Last, while the book is
still serious, it also has
some funny parts.
The book is good be-
cause it is a good model
for unfortunate people.
This book is recommend
this book to both girls and
boys that are 9 and up.

Dear Horton,
I hope that the Who's
are okay with you on that
speck of dust. It is true that
“a person’s a person no
matter how small.” I like
that you kept all of the
promises you made. It is
really important to keep
promises and friends. It
would be amazing to meet
you, Horton.
From Ryu A.
Dear Horton,
You are really cool. I
like your giant ears. I like
how you kept your promise
to save Whoville and to
care for Mayzie’s egg. I also
like how you said, “A per-
son’s a person, no matter
how small.” Horton, I won-
der how you survived the
cold and mighty winter?
From Josue L.
Dear Horton,
In my opinion, you were
the best character. My fa-
vorite part was when you
were taking care of Mayz-
ie’s egg. You were just
waiting there, sitting in the
nest, waiting forever.
I also liked the part
where you were looking for
the clover that had the
Who’s on it. I remember
when the clover was taken
away from you, and you
were chasing the three
monkey brothers, because
they took the special clover
away from you. I think the
moral you tried to show
was “never give up, no mat-
ter how small.” The moral of
the play was to use your
imagination and think!
I also liked when you
were on top of the staircase
singing to JoJo [Editor’s
note: one of the children in
Whoville]. Remember, “a
person’s a person, no mat-
ter how small!”
From Lander S
Dear Horton,
I like the part when Hor-
ton takes the small little egg
and gets in the nest and
takes care of it while the
mother of the egg, Mayzie,
was on vacation.
Your voice was totally
amazing and Horton was an
amazing character. Horton
took care of Whoville town,
and he was calm and did a
fantastic job with everything
he set out to do.
Good job on your per-
formance. Horton really did
make a difference with the
clover.
From Rami N.
Dear Horton,
I loved the musical
Seussical because of you.
Most of the story was about
you and the Who’s. The
moral or the lesson of the
story was that everyone
counts, no matter how
small they are. You were
willing to help anyone that
needed help like when
Mayzie wanted a vacation
from sitting on her egg,
even though she betrayed
your trust, you kept your
promise and sat on her egg,
keeping it warm until it
hatched. You help people
whenever you can, and do
whatever you can do to help
someone like the Who’s.
Sincerely,
Raphael U.
Dear Horton,
Horton is my favorite
character, because he was a
kind character. He was tak-
ing care of the bird egg, and
when he tried to give it back,
Mayzie, the mother, said
“No!”
Horton helped save
Whoville, a town of tiny peo-
ple on a little speck of dust.
Horton was so nice to save
people. Horton believed eve-
ryone and other people
couldn’t change his mind
like the Sour Kangaroo.
From Isaac B.
Dear Horton,
You were amazing, and I
loved the way you really ex-
pressed your feelings. You
were happy, sad, energetic,
and much more. In my opin-
ion, you were the best actor
out there, and I hope you
had as much fun acting as I
had watching!
All of the parts were
great but my favorite part
was when you had just
found the little town of Who-
ville and put it on the clover,
and then those jungle ani-
mals stole it from you! You

Dear Horton,
I think that you per-
formed the best. You were
the hero of the Who’s. You
did a great job at playing
this role. You helped me
realize the moral “everyone
should be treated equal,”
and you showed this by
saying over and over “small
people are people too.” You
did magnificent, and I wish
you the best.

Dear Horton,
Good job in the play.
You did good. My opinion
on Horton was over the
limit. I liked the part when
you were asked to take
care of Mayzie’s egg. She
said that maybe just for an
hour or more. But she did
not come back.
I would really enjoy
coming back to see you in
another play. I also liked
when people made fun of
Horton, and Horton did not
avenge them.
Another favorite of
mine was when you said
how “size doesn’t matter,
a person is a person.”
This show was a
SHOW! It was really cool.
Thanks for making it a very
fun show.
From Youssef B.
Dear Horton,
I think that your per-
formance was great, and I
think you were the best
actor in Seussical. The
show was amazing and
you had the most emotion-
al performance in the
whole play. You had an
amazing personality and
you were the best one in
the whole cast. I think you
were amazing, and I loved
your acting.
From Joaquin C.
Dear Cat in the Hat,
I like that you are cre-
ative in your own crazy
way, but I would like to ask
you a question. That ques-
tion is, “If you could be a
human, would you?” I
would stay a cat, because
you are epic in your very
own way. Also, where did
you get your hat? I want
one like that since my
backpack wouldn’t be
heavy. I would use my hat
instead.
You seem like you
would be an awesome
teacher. This is because
you are a cool cat that is
smart … get it. But you
wouldn’t be better than
Mrs. Frizzle, since you are
a cat. I love your charisma.
Love,
Ruth W.
Dear Cat in the Hat,
You are really cool
and funny You make
words rhyme with no
words – like bapple and
zapple. You did really well
at the play, Seussical. I
have a couple of ques-
tions for you – how did
you get your hat? When
did you meet Thing One
and Thing Two? I wonder
what more adventures you
will have!
From Justin A.
Dear Cat in the Hat,
Seussical the Musical
was an awesome event. I
loved it, because everyone
was on beat and they all
had awesome costumes. I
like it when they were
singing. They all had good
voices, and I hope I see
them in another musical
again, because they all
are very great at what they
like doing. I’m so glad that
Dr. Seuss created all of
these cool, funny charac-
ters. That’s all I liked, Cat
in the Hat.
From Nick M.
Dear Cat in the Hat,
You rhymed so many
words. How do you re-
member all those words at
once? I think you are just
Michael Moroso as Cat in the Hat
like the Cat in the Hat to
me. I loved how you put in
so much emotion into your
acting. When you first came
on to the stage with that big
boom, I jumped out of my
seat. My favorite scene was
with you in it. It was the part
when you were singing to
one of the Who’s in the
bathtub. Overall, my rating
was 100% great.
From Owen M.
Dear Cat in the Hat,
I thought that your per-
formance was awesome. I
thought the performance
had a piece of Dr. Seuss in
it. My favorite part is when
you and the little boy JoJo
sang together. It was awe-
some. I think I would be
able to perform just like
you. Is it hard? Did you en-
joy it? Thank you for your
time.
From Jada G.
Dear Cat in the Hat,
I wonder how you can
rhyme everyday in time. You
are my favorite Dr. Seuss
character. This is why I’m
writing this to you. You char-
acter is very good at rhym-
ing. So thank you, Dr.
Seuss, for making so many
books, and for the joy it
brings to readers.

Dear Mayzie,
I really enjoyed the
show. I like a lot of charac-
ters, but I really liked Mayzie
(you).
The thing I like about
Mayzie was how she knew
her mistake. You were relax-
ing while Horton was in your
nest freezing!
I like how you felt sorry
and knew your mistake. I
liked Mayzie because she
was a vacation person like
me. I like vacations and re-
laxing. I really enjoyed Seus-
sical the Musical.
Sincerely,
Afnan T.
Dear Mayzie,
I enjoyed the show. My
favorite character was you. I
decided to write to you, be-
cause your character relat-
ed a lot to me – sassy and
self-centered but funny too.
You have attitude.
My favorite scene was
when Mayzie was sitting on
the nest watching her egg,
which, by the way, was gor-
geous.
So I see you like vaca-
tions. Me too. I love your
character, but it was not
cool that you abandoned
your egg and left it with Hor-
ton. You are lucky he has a
big heart.
Best wishes on becom-
ing a better bird. Just don’t
lose the sass while doing
it.

Malia D.
part was when you and
JoJo sang a song together.
It was amazing. I think that
I can perform like you. It
seems so much fun.
I was wondering if you
like doing it? How long
have you been doing it?
Thank you for reading this
letter.
From Makaila L.
Dear Cat in the Hat,
Today I saw the perfor-
mance, and it was great. I
like the part when you sang
with JoJo when she was in
the bathtub and you sang
that everything is possible. I
also liked the part where
there were bubbles falling
from the ceiling but my
friend slapped me when
she was trying to pop a
bubble.
I have some questions
for you. How long have you
been doing this and how
old were you when you
started?
Sincerely,
Iliana L.
Dear Mayzie,
I like you, because you
are funny, but not always
very nice. You left Horton
the Elephant in charge of
your egg when you went to
Palm Beach, enjoying your
time while Horton had to
take care of your egg. You
were relaxing in the sun
while Horton was shivering
in the snow.

I love you because of
your loving attitude, not
because you grew a long

I really believe that one

you because of your super

R esearch shows that
plain food has food
dye. Food dyes are made to
make food look fresh. Ac-
cording to an article on
cookinglight.com, it will be
difficult to get rid of dyes
from the food supply. It is
obvious that some food dyes
are very unhealthy. The
dyes cause children their
behavior to be hyper and
jumpy.
Did you know that stud-
ies show that as little as 30
mm of artificial food color-
ing a day can start to cause
children to act not normal
or hyper? Many people’s
favorite food or daily food
has food coloring, including
Kraft Macaroni and Cheese,
Crush Orange Soda, and
Fruity Cheerios.
There are seven artifi-
cial food colors that were
approved for use in the
U.S.A by the FDA. There are
Blue #2, Blue #3, Green
#3, Red #3, Red #40, Yel-
low #5 and Yellow #6.
Some other countries have
banned or put rules on the
use of these chemicals.
Solutions to this prob-
lem are to make our own
food dyes by using natural,
organic ingredients and by
using authentic vegetable
based pre-made dyes.
Food dyes can be very
bad for people and it is in

really notices. But, now you

I n-n -Out is an excellent
restaurant, which is loved
by the public and one of the
highest-ranking fast food
restaurants in Los Angeles.
In-n-Out serves many
types of food and drinks.
Their menu consists of dou-
ble-doubles, cheeseburgers,
hamburgers, French fries,
shakes, and beverages.
Their ‘’not so secret’’ menu
consists of a 3x3 burger, a
4x4 burger, grilled cheese,
protein style burger, and
animal style burger.
Some dishes that peo-
ple like are double-doubles,
the shakes, and the fries.
The reasons people like
these certain dishes are
because they are freshly
made, they are healthier
than other fast food burg-
ers, and many people think
that they are extremely deli-
cious.
The price range for the
food at In-n-Out is, starting
with the burgers, ranges
from $2.10 to $3.45. The
fries are $1.60. The com-

won’t feel a thing because of
the anesthetics the dentist
will give them. Usually the
dentist will tear out an ach-
ing tooth or give the patient
some other treatment the
cure it, without drills or saws.
Dentists also order regu-
lar check-ups like a medical
doctor. They will check if a
patient’s teeth are clean,
their teeth are straight, and
make sure there aren’t any
other problems with a pa-
tient’s mouth. These check-
ups are usually fun and in-
teresting, because the den-
tist doesn’t really do any
work on a patient’s teeth,
but just goes poking around
in a patient’s mouth, makes
them drink weird liquids, or
cleans their teeth with a
special brush and paste.
O ne of the most un-
pleasant experienc-
es is having a tooth
that wiggles and won’t
come out. A dentist might
fix this. The dentist is a doc-
tor that specializes in teeth
and oral health (gums,
overall cleanness, etcet-
era). He can take care of
tooth aches and teeth that
are crooked. He can give a
patient braces to shape
their teeth correctly, or he
might give them cavity
blocks to stop the spread of
cavities.
Many kids and even
grownups fear the dentist
though. Whenever some-
one says dentist, people
think of huge drills and
saws. But that is rarely the
case, and if it is, the patient
If there is a cavity in a
patient’s mouth, the dentist
will take X-rays of it and then
drill the cavity out of the
tooth. Then he will fill the
hole with a special tooth fill-
ing, which is usually silver or
white.
After having their teeth
fall out or pulled out by the
dentist, young kids have a
privilege. A “tooth fairy”
goes to the their house at
night, takes their tooth, and
in its place, leaves a treat
such as candy or money.
So, going to the dentist
can be a both pleasant and
unpleasant experience, but it
is never as horrific as people
say it is. With today’s tech-
nology, going to the dentist is
no big deal and nothing to
worry about.

R ecent studies show
that 200,000 logger-
head sea turtles die each
year. People think “They
have shells, I’m sure they’ll
live,” and with that they
dump trash and other
chemicals into the ocean.
People need to realize that
they need to help save log-
gerhead sea turtles. These
poor turtles have been on
the endangered list since
1987. Why can’t people
help save turtles instead of
killing them?
Loggerhead sea turtles
are the most massive hard
-shelled turtles. These tur-
tles are reptiles and carni-
vores. Loggerhead turtles
can live up to 150 years.
Their average weight is
235 pounds and their av-
erage size is 36 inches.
The Loggerhead diet in-
cludes animals such as
jellyfish, conches, fish, and
crabs. Conches are also a
type of shellfish. These
turtles also eat plants such
as seaweed and sargassum.
Sargassum is a type of sea
plant. Turtles have been on
the planet for as long as
dinosaurs roamed the plan-
et. This proves that turtles
are important and that peo-
ple should save them.
In conclusion, people
should help save the logger-
head sea turtles. They are a
part of ancient history. Peo-
ple’s help can greatly reduce
the number of deaths of
these sea turtles. Don’t
hate. Help this species sur-
vive.

Penguins like to feed on
krill, fish, squid, and other
forms of sea life. They spend
equal parts of their life in
the ocean and on land.
Did you know that the
largest species of penguins
is the Emperor Penguin?
There are many exciting
facts to learn about pen-
guins, and here are a few.
The average adult penguin
is 3 ft. 7 in. tall and weighs
77 pounds or more.
The smallest species of
penguins are the little blue
penguin. These penguins
are also known as fairy pen-
guin. They are around 16
inches tall and weigh 2.2
pounds. Some are found in
New Zealand and Australia.
A fun fact about pen-
guins is that larger penguins
inhabit colder regions while
smaller ones are found
mostly in temperate or tropi-
cal climates.

S elena Quintanilla is the
queen of Tejano music
and became very popular
with Tejano music fans.
Tejano music is the name
used to describe Tex-Mex
music. At the Tejano Music
Awards she won Best Vocal-
ist and Performer of the
Year in 1987 and then for
nine consecutive years.
Selena Quintanilla was
born in 1971 in Lake Jack-
son, Texas. She was the
youngest of three children.
Around the age of 10,
Selena became the lead
singer of Selena y Los Di-
nos, her family band with
the singer’s passing. Many
of her fans lit candles and
had pictures to remember
her by.
A movie on Selena was
released in 1997. The role of
Selena was played by Jen-
nifer Lopez. The movie
shared a little bit about Sele-
na’s performances; it also
tells how Selena’s little fami-
ly band became a success.
Selena’s solo albums
were: Selena in 1989, Ven
Conmigo in 1990, Entre a Mi
Mundo in 1992, Amor Pro-
hibido in 1994, and Dream-
ing of You in 1995, which was
released after her death.

game is free, but it has in-

things happen every year,

I think that this product
is really addicting because
this is a super fun and crea-

the game is great because
you can be able to meet

can also meet new friends.
The game is also helpful
because it teaches life les-

T upac Amaru Shakur
was an American rap-
per who was one of the
greatest rappers of all time.
He had multiple songs
describing the struggle of
the cruel world for a black
man like him in America.
He was an amazing rapper
who wanted to change the
world to make it a better
place for everybody.
Tupac Shakur was born
in New York City on June
16, 1971. He is the son of
Black Panther activist. His
mother is Afeni Shakur and
his father is Billy Garland,
whom Tupac never met
until he was an adult.
Tupac had a difficult
childhood and got an edu-
cation from his mother as
well as his schools. When
he was a teenager, he at-
tended the Baltimore High
School of Arts.
When he was studying
in Baltimore, he discovered
an interest in rapping and
started performing as an
MC. His family then moved
to the west side and Tupac
joined Digital Underground
before going solo.
Tupac absolutely blast-
ed off as a solo artist, going
by the name 2Pac. He
made his debut album
2Pacalypse and his track
Brenda’s Got A Baby
reached no. 3 on the Bill-
board Charts. Around this
time, he started to star in
movies such as Poetic Jus-
tice, Above The Rim, and
Juice.
He was a victim of rac-
ism and once shot 2 police
for brutally beating a young
black male for no reason.
He never went to jail, as the
blame was on the crooked
police. He quickly emerged
as a one-of-a-kind artist and
was in a golden period of
his career before his un-
timely death. He was hated
by many other rappers and
people because they were
jealous. He was shot in Sep-
tember 1996 in Las Vegas.
Many people were sur-
prised by the untimely
death and they never found
out who shot him

H ave you ever wanted
to make your own Mar-
io levels? Now people can
with Super Mario Maker. It
was developed for the Wii
and released in 1995
In Super Mario Maker
people make their own Mar-
io levels. Each day if people
play Mario Maker for at
least five minutes, they get
new things to build levels
with. But if people get
bored with that there are
always the challenges.
The two challenges are
the Ten Mario Challenge
and the hundred Mario
challenge. In the Ten Mario
Challenge, people have ten
lives and they have to beat
eight levels without losing
all ten lives. In the Ten Mar-
io Challenge, people go
through the same levels but
in a different order.
In the hundred Mario
challenge people have a
hundred lives and they go
through random levels. In
the hundred Mario chal-
lenge there are three diffi-
culties, which are easy, nor-
mal, and expert.
Next there is online
where people can share
their levels and play other
peoples’ levels. The prob-
lem is that people cannot
search up the levels that
they want. So if people want
to have fun with their Wii U
then they should play this
game.

Note to parents: According
to commonsensemedia.org,
this game is appropriate for
ages 9 and up. “Cleverly, it
emphasizes understanding
that the old trappings of
violence and beating up
enemies without real cause
can be totally ignored or
considered a last resort. You
have no cause to hurt any-
one...”

character does not fight,
but he makes friends with
people. If people do the
genocide route the charac-

counters. Everybody is
afraid of him. He kills all his
friends.
The plot of the story is
there was a war between
humans and monsters. The
humans won and the mon-
sters are stuck under-
ground forever. The mon-
sters need seven human
souls to escape the under-
ground. They have six. But
then the character falls to
the underground. Every-
body wants to kill him to

U ndertale is a game cre-
ated by Toby Fox. An-
other thing that Toby made
was an Earthbound Hallow-
een hack. Some characters
in Undertale are Frisk,
Flowey, Alphys, Undyne, To-
riel, Mettaton, and Mettaton
Ex. There are also two skele-
ton brothers called Sans
and Papyrus. They are
named after fonts that are
on a computer.
There are two routes to
take. These routes are the
pacifist route and the geno-
cide route. I recommend the
pacifist route first because
people will not get the geno-
cide route if they do it first.
In the pacifist route the
want to kill anybody be-
cause the character is in
the pacifist route first.
Overall the game is
really good. It got great
reviews. This game is one
of the best I have ever
seen.
