Long-RangeStrike Summit September 12 - 14, 2011 • Renaissance Washington, DC Dupont Circle Hotel

The ability to conduct superior long-range strike operations has long given the US animportant military advantage. But the DoD’s long-range strike “family of systems” (land-based bombers, carrier-based strike aircraft, cruise missiles and supporting airborne EAplatforms) is in critical need of an upgrade, amidst fears that the US is currently at risk oflosing its ability to effectively penetrate anti-access/area denial (A2/AD) battle networks.
The US government has earmarked more than $5 billion over the next five fiscal yearsfor a number of long-range strike programs, highlighted by a new long-range bomber for theAir Force and an unmanned carrier-launched surveillance and strike system for the Navy.
In response to the demand for greater detail on these new requirements and futureprograms, military and industry leaders are meeting in September at IDGA’s Long-RangeStrike Summit to discuss strategic capabilities and the need for an updated family ofsystems. Perhaps most importantly, the event will focus on the joint service strategy that iscritical to meeting the overarching objective of global access.
The relationship between USAF and USN will be discussed with an emphasis on the Air-SeaBattle Concept and the future of joint doctrine, concepts, operations and technologynecessary to overcome the ever-improving A2/AD capabilities around the globe.
Specific critical areas for discussion include: • Improving Air-Sea Battle Policy, Concepts and Development• Increasing the Range of Carrier Based Air Systems• Acquisition Plans for the Necessary Family of Long-Range Strike Systems• Nuclear Asset Protection, Integration and Readiness
The summit will bring together senior level officials from the DoD, US Allied Forces, thedefense industry, and the academic community to increase the effectiveness of Long-RangeStrike operations.
Reserve your place amongst the leaders in strategic operations by calling 1-800-882-8684 orvisiting www.LongRangeStrike.com!
I look forward to seeing you in September!

Pre-Summit Focus Day
Although solid rocket motors (SRM) are ideally suited to many propulsionapplications, their lack of controllability restricts their mission flexibility.Following ignition of an SRM’s propellant grain, combustion continuesuntil all propellant is consumed. This presentation will focus ontechnology to improve the mission flexibility of solid rocket motors.
What will be covered:• Using a pulse motor configuration to improve control of thrust profile• The advantages of utilizing multiple solid propellant grains• A demonstration of the feasibility of high performance solid rocketpulse motors with bonded end closures, incorporating innovativematerials and manufacturing processes
How you will benefit:• Overcome performance losses due to problems such as reducedpropellant mass fraction and resulting loss in total impulse
• Improve the controllability of missile systems for a multi-role capability • Reduce total cost through mission flexible systems

High Performance Pulse Motor for Mission Flexibility
9:30 – 11:30 AM
A compact heavy fueled engine is progressing from a desire to arequirement. This presentation will outline a miniature Meyer NutatingDisk Engine that provides the means of propulsion that the military hasbeen seeking for use in a variety of systems.
What will be covered:• The advantage in power to weight ratio of a nutating disk enginevs. a traditional internal combustion engine
• Systems that would benefit from this technology including UAV’sand Munitions
How you will benefit:• Increase the payload, range, and loitering capability of UAV’s due toa lighter, more efficient propulsion system
• Increase the range and efficiency of munitions as well as payloadcapacity
• Increase the maximum elevation of UAV’s and other systems
Presenter:Michael BorutaPrincipalKinetic BEI LLC
12:00 – 2:00 PM
This presentation discusses the current State-of-the-Art in high operatingtemperature powerplants designed to operate utilizing high energy density,non-toxic, low cost commercial NOFBX monopropellants. These regeneratively-cooled powerplants do not require air for either supporting combustion orproviding engine cooling and as a result can be used in high altitude orvacuum applications (or underwater). Early phase R&D of the NOFBXpowerplants have been funded under DARPA Phase I/II SBIR to address thechallenges and feasibility of flying high altitude, long endurance (HALE)vehicles and allow extreme altitude vehicles to potentially fly outside of currentground-based threats. The high energy density NOFBX monopropellants (~9.5xenergy density of State-of-the-Art Lithium Ion batteries) combined with thevery high conversion efficiency HALE powerplants allows the NOFBX HALEpowersystem to achieve propellant consumption performance per unithorsepower generated that rivals traditional fuel/air powerplants. The non-toxic, low cost, NOFBX commercial monopropellants have been originallydeveloped under joint Commercial/NASA/FAA funding for purposes ofupgrading the U.S. commercial Space Transportation System to non-toxic, highperformance aerospace propellants in rocket thruster applications. The NOFBX
commercial rocket propulsion technology will be demonstrated on an upcoming2012 commercial flight experiment deployed on the International Space Stationas a U.S. non-toxic alternative to Russian reboost capability and a block upgradeoption for all ISS visiting vehicles’ maneuvering and deorbit propulsion toStation.
What will be covered:• Overview of work on NOFBX HALE powerplants that was conducted underthe DARPA SBIR program
• NOFBX power cycle trades and System level performance analysis on hightemperature gas fuel cell/turbine option
• Technical challenges to be addressed to mature the NOFBX HALE powerplanttechnology
