Longstone Primary School Home Learning Grid - Level (P5/6)
Usually, the May Bank Holiday weekend is on a Monday and Tuesday.
This year, it is different. You have Monday 4th May off school and Friday 8th May off. This is to celebrate the 75th
anniversary of VE day (Victory in Europe) for the Allied Forces in World War 2.
As it is a shorter week, the learning-grid below is shorter and has a number of activities to help you learn more
about V.E. day.

Writing Reading Number
In our Jacobite project, we learnt about propaganda, which is information released by Governments or companies to encourage the public to think a certain way. Sometimes propaganda is viewed as a good thing and sometimes as a bad thing. Pick one poster. What is the message of the poster? How does the picture make you look
at the poster? The poster uses ‘a bossy voice’ to give instructions.
Pick one poster and rewrite the slogan. Pick one poster. List all the ways it persuades you to
follow the message.
Re-create one of the posters using your own drawing and slogan.

Have you noticed that when you do exercise, your heart beats faster? Put your hand over the left side of your chest and you can feel your heart pumping. Do the exercise and give it a score:

Soldiers from countries of the Empire fought for Britain in WW2, such as:
• India (which at the time included Pakistan and Bangladesh)
• Canada
• Zimbabwe
• New Zealand
• Australia
Pick one of these countries to research and make a fact-file with.
