BREAKING DOWN BARRIERS The Boston Landmarks Orchestra is committed to removing barriers to access for people with disabilities. It offers braille and large-print programs, assisted listening devices, and ambassadors to greet and assist people at a handicap drop-off point. The
Orchestra works with American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters as performers at select concerts. In 2014, in recognition of its efforts to embrace inclusiveness as core to its mission, the Boston Landmarks Orchestra was named an “UP organization” by the MassachusettsCultural Council, one of only 27 organizations (and the only orchestra) to receive this distinction to date.
Uniquely positioned at the crossroads of music and medicine, the LONGWOOD SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA was established in 1982 and holds a distinctive role in Boston’s cultural landscape. Since the early 80s, the orchestra has presented public concerts at New England Conservatory’s Jordan Hall, and since 1991, each concert has raised money for a different Community Partner, benefiting underserved populations throughout the Greater Boston region. Nationally recognized for its musical quality, innovative programming, and unique model of community engagement, the orchestra’s members are primarily healthcare professionals from Boston's leading hospitals and universities, including doctors, medical students, research scientists, nurses, therapists, and caregivers−many of whom pursued music studies before turning to medicine. Two-time winner of the League of American Orchestras’ ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming of Contemporary Music, RONALD FELDMAN has achieved critical acclaim for his work as a conductor and cellist. He has appeared as guest conductor with major orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, the St. Louis Symphony, and the Quebec Symphony.
He served as assistant to Boston Pops Principal Conductor and composer John Williams from 1989 to 1993.
Seiji Ozawa, Conductor Laureate of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, called Feldman “an outstanding conductor...with a deep musical mind, which is clearly conveyed through his performances.” John Williams regarded Feldman as “a brilliant conductor who displays the best leadership qualities...and an outstandingly high level of musicianship that imbues his conducting style with strength, taste, and imagination.” In August of this year he made his debut with The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Scotland, recording 3 albums featuring the music of composer Kevin Kaska.
Feldman joined the Boston Symphony at the age of 19. He has appeared as a soloist in concerto repertoire from Dvořák to Ligeti. Chamber music affiliations have included performances with the Boston Symphony Chamber Players, Collage New Music, and the Williams Chamber Players. Other performances have included collaborations with violinist Gil Shaham, cellist Yo-Yo Ma, pianists Peter Serkin, Emmanuel Ax and Garrick Ohlsson.
In 2001, Feldman left the Boston Symphony Orchestra to pursue other musical interests. He was appointed Music Director of Longwood Symphony Orchestra in July 2012. He also serves as Music Director of the Berkshire Symphony Orchestra, a regional orchestra in residence at Williams College. He is on the faculties of the New England Conservatory of Music and the Berklee College of Music. He is Artist in Residence and Lecturer in Music at Williams College.
The FREE FOR ALL CONCERT FUND, an independent grant-making public charity, ensures that everyone from the Boston region (children, adults, families) will have regular and permanent access to the rich world of classical, orchestral music and related cultural events. The Boston Landmarks Orchestra is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit
organization funded through the generosity of foundations,
corporations, and individuals. The Orchestra was founded in 2001
by conductor and community advocate Charles Ansbacher to bring
free classical music to the people of Greater Boston. Since 2007, it
has presented its main concert series at the DCR’s Hatch Shell
every Wednesday from mid-July to late August, carrying on the
tradition of free concerts on the Esplanade started by Arthur
Fiedler in 1929. In addition, the Orchestra offers free family
concerts and educational programs throughout Boston’s
neighborhoods.
We believe that Boston−like every great city−deserves a summer
series of free orchestral performances. Though the concerts are
free to the public, they are not free to produce!

with Commonwealth Shakespeare CompanyA Concert Performance—with music and dance!A landmark Broadway musical from the swing era is reborn on the Esplanade. The Boys from Syracuse, based on Shakespeare’s The Comedy of Errors, is often considered the finest of all Rodgers and Hart creations. Its hit songs include ‘Falling in Love with Love,’ ‘Sing for Your Supper,’ and ‘This Can’t Be Love.’
If it is raining on the 31st, the concert will be postponed to September 1 at the Hatch Shell. If it is also raining September 1, the concert will be moved to Symphony Hall on the 1st.
