Just a few notes to begin with.
I would like to thank the CHAA executive committee for allowing me this chance to publish our
monthly newsletter.
There are a few people I need to thank with the creation of the newsletter.
Patti Smith for providing me with the email list.
Terry Scott for providing the graphics.
Sandra Sparks for getting the ball rolling.
Shane “Mr. Harvard” Clayton for the fonts used in the headlines.
If you notice the banner the font is RCAF and the background colour is a close match to our
roundel.
Please share the newsletter with your friends and please encourage them to join CHAA. I also
encourage our Members to contribute to the newsletter.

Flight Ops Report – Apr 20, 2019
Flight Ops is getting ready for the 2019 flying season. We held a very well attended and successful
annual refresher on Apr 7 after which 3 pilots completed their annual check rides. As of today, we
have 5 pilots current and ready to fly missions for CHAA. Our first backseat ride of the year is
scheduled for Apr 20 and William has 3 other rides lined up over the next several weeks.
Our annual ground school for new pilots wanting to get checked out on the Harvard was postponed
from the planned Mar 23 date due to the unavailability of some of the students on that date. Scott
tells me that he expects 6 pilots to attend the ground school on the new date of Apr 19.
A number of flypasts, fly-in events and airshows have been confirmed or are being bid on. For fly-
pasts, we are confirmed for Port Burwell on July 1, the Crystal Beach Sky Fest on July 5 and expect
to do our annual flypasts over Ohsweken in Oct and Shedden and Toronto in Nov. We also hope to
get asked back to do flypasts at the Detroit Riverfest and Elmira. For fly-in events, we are sending
one airplane to Maniwaki, QC (60 nm north of Ottawa) on June 8-9 where we are being heavily pro-
moted to do rides, and we will be sending one or two airplanes to Edenvale on Aug 11 for their an-
nual Gathering of the Classics. For airshows, we are confirmed for Geneseo on July 12-14 and are
bidding on shows in Barrie (June 29-30), Brantford (Aug 28), Gatineau (Sept 7-8) and Peterborough
(Sept 21-22). In addition to these events, we have our Fly Days on June 16 (Father’s Day), July 20
(80th Anniversary of the Harvard) and Sept 14 (Wings and Wheels). We are always on the lookout
for events to attend and show the Harvard so if you hear of any events please let me know and we’ll
follow up with the organizers.
Thanks,
Allan Paige

Check out a feature about CHAA on the latest episode of 'Plane Savers', a YouTube series pro-duced by Mikey McBryan from Buffalo Airways in Yellowknife, NWT.
Mikey is 'saving' a D-Day veteran C-47/DC-3 Dakota that has been stored for years in St. Hubert, Quebec and plans to have her flying in time for the 75th anniversary of Operation Overlord on June 6th. Best of luck, and thanks for having us on the show!

An interview I did in January made the front cover.
I haven't received any leads yet but maybe the article will turn something up. In the meantime we got our name out
there ;)
I have spoken with Derek Niles of Orange Force Marine as the article states and he is very interested and eager to help us out.
Here's the link to the article: https://www.villagerpublications.com/port-stanley-march…
Here's an interesting video showing Harvards in formation near RCAF Station Penhold, Alberta (now Red Deer Airport) circa 1960.
Although none of our Harvards are seen in the video, Harvard '273 is still around and is on dis-play at The Hangar Flight Museum in Calgary.
Did you know that we can take you on a formation flight just like this? (minus the aerobatic tail
chase ;-) ) Book a formation ride with us today!

We recently lost one of our members, Larry Fleiler. We would like to express our deepest
Sympathies to his family and friends.
