This special finish, born from home decor, is called Craquel in this sector. It is a special manually applied coating which gives surfaces a unique leather effect created by the adhesion and drying process of the pigment on the frames. The final effect is a visual and tactile sensation that is reminiscent of fine leather, but with the same resilience characteristics of a synthetic material which is ideal for extended, worry-free eyewear use.

LEATHER EFFECT

VELVET | VELVET PLUS | VELVET BICOLOR

Italia Independent was the first company in the world to introduce the velvet effect in eyewear, starting from a surface treatment already used in the automotive industry, called UV Lux . This innovation allowed the brand to affirm its notoriety and was fueled by continuous research on innovative and unconventional technologies that were later applied to its products. Prestigious brands that were initially skeptical about the use of this type of finish have recently attempted to imitate the effect that gave birth to the I-V product family. The velvet effect is achieved by aiming and projecting special natural fibers against surfaces coated with adhesive material. The energy required to aim, project and make the fibers penetrate the glue layer is provided by an electrostatic field generated between the dispenser and the surface to be coated. The Plus versions have an incremental effect; the bicolor versions, on the other hand, combine two different colors on the chassis surface, a technology that was awarded the years best innovation by MIT Review Italy in May 2014.

One of the great technological innovations introduced to eyewear by Italia Independent as a result of intense research born from the automotive industry. It is a complex process that involves the application of a particular thermochromatic substance to the surface of the eyewear whose transparency is subject to the reversible change of its optical properties as a function of temperature by means of a chemical reaction. Eyewear characterized by this kind of treatment, in essence, changes color upon reaching a temperature of 30 centigrade. In fact, once this precise threshold is reached, the thermochromatic pigment vanishes allowing the underlying color or texture to become visible. Once the initial thermal conditions are reinstated and the chemical reactivity of the material becomes static, the substance reappears, thus restoring the original color of the eyewear, a technology that was awarded the years best innovation by MIT Review Italy in May 2014.

THERMIC

A special finish called Peach Effect that is reminiscent of the tactile sensation of touching the surface of this fruit. This is done using a special manual painting of the rough surfaces, which, besides enriching the frames visually, locks in the colors while protecting them from nicks and scratches at the same time.

PEACH

DROPS

A special surface finish obtained through a complex manual painting procedure whereby each frame becomes unique. It is made up of drops of special high resistance paint applied in different colors which are sprayed on in multiple coats, one for each color. The high density paint has a different thickness than the base paint and it gives a three-dimensional and tactile effect.

Literally Brushing. It is obtained by the complex laser processing of previously painted frames whereby a craftsman removes pigment from selected points. The final effect is characterized by deep streaks following the frame horizontally from the chassis to the temples creating a unique chromatic dynamism through the alternation of light and shadow.

BRUSH

GLAZE

An artisanal technique, working on one set of frames at a time. The enamel is applied through a series of blottings made by a craftsman who exerts a higher or lower pressure on the pigment-soaked sponges to lighten or strengthen the presence of color according to the final effect he wishes to achieve. Eyewear characterized by this treatment offers an infinite variation of color gradations reminiscent of the fine grain of certain natural stones.

A special rubberized finish that is rather widespread in the automotive industry where they use the term soft touch. The application, by hand, gives a pleasant feeling to the touch, enriching the surfaces of the frames and giving them a qualitative and consistent look.

GUM

THIN

A construction feature of the frames whereby they become thin -very thin - while retaining qualities of extraordinary resilience. Minimum thicknesses for glasses lighter than traditional ones, for maximum comfort even during prolonged use. The thickness of the Thin frames is about 4 millimeters.

SATIN

A manual technique in which the craftsman works on each piece of eyewear individually, making it different from all the others. It is achieved through a delicate process of brushing the painted frames, etching the surface and creating tiny streaks. The apparent homogeneity of colors, made partially opaque by the treatment, hides a surface that is processed for its entire length and whose essential features are felt not just to the touch, but also in the play of light that is created on the frames.

The new I-LUX family consist of products that despite belonging to different categories feature exclusive treatments, due to quality of the materials used or the complexity of the processes applied, clearly distinguishing themselves from those of the normal range.The I-LUX collection is composed by some of the most representative Italia Independent styles.Dedicated to the female target, the models 0090, 0903 and 0904 have a velvet effect front, obtained through the use of the UV LUX treatment, and are adorned with Swarovski stones applied manually using heat. The temples are adorned by the special finish craquel, a technology used in home design that makes the surface of the temples look like as they were covered with leather.

The 0090, the Italia Independent best seller, is unisex with the front completely covered with stone washed denim. The abrasions of the fabric are different on each pair of glasses, making each one unique. The temples are blue, embellished with a matt coated finish.Made with high quality leather and using classical shapes, a small collection of precious, unique and exclusive glasses was born. The 0090 model, is available in crocodile and snakeskin, and the 0904 model, available only in the second finish. The first model is unisex and the second is dedicated to a female audience.

The glasses are dedicated to children in the age group between 7 and 14 years old. Made out of plastic with high flexibility and shape memory (trogamid), the line is inspired by the super thin frames I-Thin, and is available in a wide range of colors and shapes.
