Dairy, Poultry, Rabbit, or Goat at the State Fair, you need to be FSQA certified
What is FSQA?
The Iowa 4-H Food Safety and Quality Assurance (FSQA) program focuses on seven Good Production
Practices that help ensure the safety of the food you produce.

tified.

is good until they enter 9th grade.

which is good until they turn 19.

Iowa Dairy Goat Association’s “Share-A-Kid Program” The IDGA Share-A-Kid Program provides the opportunity for youth, ages 10 to 17 and residents of the state of Iowa, to own a registered dairy goat kid. Applicants submit essays and other supportive material to win a doeling. Doelings are donated by IDGA members and a selection committee determines the winners. Winners are expected to display their goat at a county fair or youth show, to keep in touch with the donor, and to submit an article about their doeling to the IDGA newsletter. As needed, winners receive a follow-up visit after the doeling goes home, and can be mentored by an IDGA member. Entries for the 2015 IDGA Share-A-Kid Program are accepted from January 1 to April 1, 2015. Entrants must be between the age of 10 and 17, a resident of the state of Iowa, and a member of IDGA, 4-H, FFA, or other agricultural groups. Application information can be found on the 4-H Dairy Goat page.
2015 State 4-H Camps at the Iowa 4-H Center
Young people grades 5-8 in the 2014-15 school year have three special-themed 4-H camps designed especially for them. These statewide camps will be held at the Iowa 4-H Center near Madrid. While exploring the special themes, campers will live in a camp community for five days and four nights, enjoying traditional camp favorites like swimming, canoeing, hiking, climb-ing, and campfires. Each camp will also include an opportunity for campers to visit programs and facilities on the Iowa State University campus in Ames. The dates and themes of the three camps are: June 21-25—State 4-H “…And My World” Camp; Campers will choose a specialized educational track to learn about other cultures, develop nutrition knowledge and culinary skills, or strengthen leadership skills July 5-9—State 4-H Science Explorers I; Campers will choose a specialized educational track exploring science and technology, nature, or plant science and agriculture. July 12-16—State 4-H Science Explorers II: Campers will choose a specialized educational track exploring science and technol-ogy, animal and veterinary science, or plant science and agriculture. Registration cost is $350 for 4-H members, $380 for non-members, and includes all meals, lodging, and special programming costs. Financial assistance for youth to attend 4-H camps at the Iowa 4-H Center is available from the Iowa 4-H Foundation https://www.iowa4hfoundation.org/en/funding_opportunities/summer_4h_camp_assistance/ . Deadline to apply for finan-cial assistance is April 25.
Preliminary information on State 4-H camps has been posted to the 4-H Camping website http://www.extension.iastate.edu/4h/camping with more to come as program details are finalized. Link to the online registration form will be posted in March. Contact Bill Beckley for more information ([email protected]).
Spring 2015 DuPont Pioneer Seed Grants for Community Improvement Projects It’s time for DuPont Pioneer Seed Grants for Spring 2015. We are accepting grants for Spring 2015 from now through April 1. Applications should be turned into County Extension Offices by March. 15 and then forwarded with their support by the April. 1 deadline. You can find information, tips for applicants, and applications for these grants on the Iowa 4-H website at: http://www.extension.iastate.edu/4h/pioneergrants. Grants will be awarded for anywhere from $50 to $500 but typically will not exceed half of the cost of the total project as groups are encouraged to work at obtaining local support as a match. Success-ful projects are those that enlist partnerships with other community entities, demonstrate engagement by the full 4-H club, and make a positive impact on the community. Send questions regarding the DuPont Pioneer Seed Grants to Brenda Allen at [email protected].
4-H Robotics Meetings
4-H Robotics meetings will be held on the last Sunday of each month from 2-4pm. These meetings are open to all 4-H
members. They will be fun times to learn about how LEGO Mindstorms work. The next meeting will be March 29 at the Ex-
tension Office. Please register by contacting the Extension Office by March 23.
