2019 Traffic Restrictions and ClosuresRemaining construction activity through 2019 for the Pecos segment of the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway will focus on completing interchanges and cross-street improvements at the interchanges, final paving, sound walls, lighting, signals and signage.
The following restrictions and closures are anticipated in the Pecos segment through late 2019. Dates and times of restrictions and closures will be published in the weekly traffic alerts, and construction alerts will be distributed for extended or weekend closures.
■ A four-month closure of 40th Street at Pecos Road began in May for interchange construction
■ Traffic shifts from Pecos Road onto completed portions of the freeway
■ Continuation of the existing traffic shift to the freeway between 17th Avenue and Desert Foothills Parkway to construct interchanges
■ Lane restrictions and weekend and overnight closures on Pecos Road, 40th, 32nd and 24th streets, Desert Foothills Parkway and 17th Avenue to complete cross-street improvements
Dates subject to change.
Diverging Diamond Interchange
2020 CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES32nd Street Traffic Interchange Following an extensive environmental study and public outreach effort, ADOT will add a Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway interchange at 32nd Street. The interchange will be constructed as a separate project to ensure that the additional work will not delay the opening of the freeway in late 2019. Construction of the connecting ramps will take place in early 2020.
Shared-use PathAn exciting community feature of the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway project is the six-mile, shared-use recreational path along the existing Pecos Road, on the south side of the freeway between 17th Avenue and 40th Street. The path, which will be physically separated from the freeway, will accommodate pedestrians and other forms of non-vehicular traffic and will provide important connectivity for bicyclists as part of the City of Phoenix Comprehensive Bicycle Master Plan. Construction of the shared-use path will begin in 2020, once the freeway is open to traffic. Connect 202 Partners will construct the path, and the City of Phoenix will be responsible for maintaining it.

2020 CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIESVee Quiva Way InterchangeFollowing an extensive environmental study and public outreach effort, ADOT will add a Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway interchange in the Center segment. The configuration will have on- and off-ramps to the new Vee Quiva Way, serving areas west of the freeway. A design modification developed in coordination with community input provides access to the Dusty Lane community via an underpass at Ray Road. The crossing will be accessible from 51st Avenue and Dusty Lane after a new access road is constructed. Construction of ramps for the new interchange is scheduled to take place in 2020, after the opening of the freeway in late 2019.
