Collaborative ClassesMr. McAninch gave his students different topics
based on the theme of imperialism. The library
staff worked with the students on how to approach
the topics they chose. We helped individual
students think about the broad topics and check
indexes of the books available in the media center.
These types of experiences really help the students
work on analysis, evaluation, and other higher
level thinking skills.
Mr. Stuard sent down posters from his students.
The posters were the result of a collaborationwhere Mrs. Tighe showed the classes how to use
DISCUS.
Did You Know?• Librarians provide guidance for integrating
technology into classroom activities?
• Much of students’ research is completed in
a school library under the guidance of a school
librarian.
• Research and media skills are embedded in
the S.C. Curriculum Standards and in the
Common Core Standards for ELA, socialstudies, science, and technical subjects.
• Librarians teach students to locate, select,
evaluate, and use information (both print and
online) efficiently and ethically.

The media center is truly a
multi-discipline hub. CityHeights, an improve group,
worked with students from
English, drama, andChinese classes.
Social studies students helped others becomeaware of the history behind different religious
beliefs by creating posters.
Authors paid a visit by way of student projects(Mrs. Burke’s classes). Students created
informational reports using cereal boxes.

7ReadsThank you for the compliments and kudos
about the 7Reads process. Be sure to thank thestudents for the final six titles as they were the
ones who narrowed it down for us. While the
committee worked hard, the students are the
ones who gave us the final six titles. Thestudents loved having input in their reading
program.
