Character-

Lorde is the main focus of the poster which is a positive representation of a girl due to the whiteness of her clothes. This is because white represents purity and innocence. However, her make-up presents a rebellious side because it is dark and bold, which is emphasised by her moody facial expression. Lorde’s body language come across as though she is backing away due to her holding her arm behind her back. This adheres to the stereotypical representation that women are inferior.

Narrative-

The poster starts with the artist’s name- Lorde- and then states when the album is out, what’s It called and where you can find it. The main focus of the poster is Lorde, who is positioned in the centre of the poster.

Iconography-

The text her name has been written in is symbolic because it is the same style text it is always written in, therefore making it easy to recognise. There Is an image at the bottom of the poster which is symbolic because It is the image of her album cover and also multi-media logo’s that are instantly recognisable to the audience. The use of the ‘@’ is another symbolic code which suggest that it is her twitter name. Lorde’s eye make-up is symbolic of her because she is known for wearing eye-liner.

Setting-

Due to the cleanliness of the background and lighting on her face, it suggests they have used professional lighting and therefore shot in a studio. The grey tone to the backdrop is similar to the colours in her costume, face and therefore in post-processing they have used colours in the text. The brown and blacks within her hair and make-up contrast with the mise en scene, making her stand out.

Technical Audio Codes-

There is a mid-shot of the subject, Lorde, who is giving direct address to the camera. The overall look of the image is white and exposed in parts that makes it look cold. However, the warmness of her hair and the dark lettering contrasts with it. The fact that the image is very saturated could be because it is reflecting the colour of heroine, due to the fact that is the album is called “pure heroine”. The lighting on her face is exposed on one side and darker, but there is a slight shadow of her nose that doesn’t touch. This suggests the photographer has used loop lighting to create a moody and atmospheric effect. It also looks as though she has been airbrushed because her face and neck look smooth and flaw free. This is an example of hyper-reality because it is representing a false reality of women. The text above the artists head makes it clear that that is the name of the artist, it is also symbolic of the artist because it is the same font that is used throughout the albums and posters; making it instantly recognisable.
