PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Recent visit by Dr Kristy Goodwin On Monday this week, we had a visit from Dr Kristy Goodwin discussing healthy and helpful ways for children to use technology. All students Year 3 – 6 had an interactive information session with Kristy, the staff had professional learning in the afternoon and there was a parent session in the evening. It was great to see so many parents attend, as bringing up children in the digital age can prove challenging. I have attached an eBook summary link that you can use to follow up on the information given on Monday night. https://drkristygoodwin.com/ryc/ There are also some professional recording of popular parent seminars https://drkristygoodwin.com/video_seminars/ There is also a 20% discount if you use the code ‘ryc20’. PAN Last Friday night was an amazing showcase of the 2018 Mowbray Public School Performing Art talent. All our bands, choirs, string ensembles and dance groups performed during the evening. It was fantastic to see so many smiling faces, and so many children who appeared in multiple performances. A big THANK YOU goes to the teaching staff, conductors, parent supporters and organisers for their help with all the groups this year. Thanks also to the volunteers that came to the showcase to support. It is easy to see why Mowbray has such a great reputation in the Creative Arts arena! Chatzfest Each year our children from Year 3 – 6 participate in a video making competition called Chatzfest. Our community of schools (Chatswood, Castle Cove, Chatswood High School) all enter movies to compete. This year’s theme was ‘10’. This year we had two winners in the Junior Primary Section from 4T, Leo S, Gwen S, Bella J, Raniya K and Daniel C for Top Ten People Who Changed the World and from 3S Hudson S, Alina V, Matthew M, Karina G and Tanya G for Ten News. We also has a winner in the Primary Class section, 3LP with This Is Us. A big congratulations to our winners and well done to all the students who made class or group films. Music Tour to Tumit - correction Apologies that I missed out on thanking a couple of people for the recent music tour for their correct
role. Kathryn Tabalon and Lipa Das were the main Coordinators of the Music Tour. Apologies ladies!

Dr Kristy Goodwin and GenReady
Over the last 2 weeks we have had some excellent parent, staff and student sessions.
GenReady
In Week 3 Haley Walsh from GenReady presented to Stage 2 and Stage 3 Parents and Students. Her session were centred around "Where Babies Come From” and “Puberty Ready”.
These sessions were extremely informative and provided excellent information for parents and students about the growth and change that children face in late Primary School and early High School.
Dr Kristy Goodwin
On Monday this week Dr Kristy Goodwin, a digital parenting educator, author and researcher, presented 4 sessions to Stage 2 and Stage 3 students, staff and parents. She translated the latest research about how technology is shaping childhood into essential information for students and parents. Dr Kristy spoke about how to understand the latest risks to kids’ online safety as well as the health and learning towards technology. These sessions were extremely engaging and helpful for all and we are extremely thankful for all the information that Dr Kristy Goodwin provided us with.

Festival of Children’s Music
On Tuesday 30th October, our Stage 2 Choir performed in The Festival of Children’s Music at The
Concourse, Chatswood. It was a tiring day but lots of fun. Our concert went for two hours and we
performed 11 songs. During the performance we had a beautiful view from the top of the recital hall
with other alto singers. We practised the songs every week on a Thursday since Term 2. Some of us
were practising every day on the way to school too! We performed with choirs, dancers and musicians
from 12 other public schools in our area. During our 3 combined practises and our final performance
we met with old friends and made new ones. Lots of us were tired at the end but celebrated an
excellent show with treats like ice-cream.

Leaving the school in 2018 or Arriving late in 2019?
Dear Parents/carers,
The first day of school for Year 1 – 6 students next year will be Wednesday 30 January, 2019. Kindergarten students will be completing their Best Start interviews in the first week and officially start on Monday 4 February, 2019.
It is vital, for class and staff organisation purposes, that we know if your child/children will not be returning to Mowbray PS or be returning late next year. Some families take extended holidays in January/February and we need to know your return date so your enrolment can be counted.
This note does not apply to any 2018 Year 6 students.
