Game 158 | Road Game 80 (36-43) | Night Game 119 (65-53)
TV: SNLA/ESPN | Radio: AM 570/KTNQ 1020 AM
ONE GOAL DOWN: The Dodgers last night won the National
League West and will play the New York Mets in the 2015 NL
Division Series beginning October 9. Tonight, the club plays game
three of a four-game series with the now-eliminated San Francisco
Giants. The Dodgers will attempt to salvage the last couple games on
their road trip (1-4) prior to heading back to Los Angeles and playing
three games this weekend against the San Diego Padres.
With the victory last night, the Dodgers won their third
consecutive NL West title and reached the postseason for
the third year in a row, a feat that has never been
accomplished before in franchise history.
The Dodgers have made the postseason six times in the last
10 seasons, including three NLCS appearances (2008, ’09,
’13) in that time.
Los Angeles captured its 14th NL West division title and
will be playing “October Baseball” for the 29th time (20
th in
Los Angeles) in franchise history.
Los Angeles owns the second-best record in the National
League since Aug. 25, going 21-13 (.618).
The New York Mets lead the Dodgers by 1.0 game for the
No. 2 seed in the National League playoffs.
THE BIG LEAD: The Dodgers are 6.0 games ahead of the Giants
and have a chance to finish in first place with one of their largest
historical winning margins:
Dodgers, Most Games Ahead at End of Season – Since 1969
2013 11.0 92-70 (.568) Lost in NLCS
1977 10.0 98-64 (.605) Lost in World Series
1988 7.0 94-67 (.584) Won World Series
2015 6.0 88-69 (.561)
2014 6.0 94-68 (.580) Lost in NLDS

FITING IN NICELY: With his eighth-inning RBI-single, Dodger
infielder Corey Seager has now reached base safely in all 21 of his
big league starts (18 at shortstop), which is the longest such streak to
begin a career in Los Angeles Dodgers history:
LA Dodgers, Most Consec Starts Reaching Base to Start Career
Corey Seager 21 09/03/2015 - Current
Bill Russell 15 04/11/1969 - 04/27/1969
Hiram Bocachica 12 09/20/2000 - 05/29/2001

Al Ferrara 12 08/07/1963 - 05/05/1965

Seager has gone 28-for-84 (.333) with a .423 on-base
percentage, eight doubles, three homers and 15 RBI in 23
games (21 starts) with the Dodgers. The last Dodger in
franchise history to reach base in his first 20+ career starts
was Jim Gilliam in Brooklyn in 1953 (24).
Seager’s September OPS ranks 11th in the NL at .982.
THE BEST OF THE WEST: The Dodgers have just five games
remaining in the 2015 regular season, which will all be played against
divisional opponents. Los Angeles has gone 42-29 (.592) against NL
West clubs. However, Los Angeles is just 7-10 against the Giants this
season, assuring a losing campaign vs. San Francisco for the fourth
time in the last six years.
THIS GUY IS ON FIRE: Kiké Hernandez was activated off the
disabled list Monday and in two games is 4-for-7 with two runs scored
and a home run. Hernandez is hitting .427 (32-for-75) vs. lefties this
season, which leads the Majors (min. 75 AB).
Justin Ruggiano belted his fourth homer in 19 games with
Los Angeles last night and is hitting .308 (16-for-52) with
four doubles and 12 RBI in blue.
ROUND-TRIPPERS: After ripping three homers last night, the
Dodgers lead the Rockies by one home run (183) in their bid to lead
the National League in homers for the first time since 1983. Eight
different players – Adrian Gonzalez (28), Joc Pederson (25),
Yasmani Grandal (16), Justin Turner (15), Andre Ethier (14),
Jimmy Rollins (13), Alex Guerrero (11) and Yasiel Puig (11) – have
hit double-digit homers this season, one shy of a franchise high:

Howie Kendrick is one homer shy of joining this group with
nine home runs in 114 games. Including 11 games prior to
his DL stint, he has hit safely in 16 of his last 20 games,
batting .329 (27-for-82) with three doubles, two homers and
14 RBI since July 28.
BIRTHDAY BOY: The Dodgers would like to wish closer Kenley
Jansen a happy 28th birthday today! Jansen ranks seventh in the
National League with 34 saves and ranks among the NL’s best
relievers in WHIP (0.77, 1st), opponents’ batting average (.169, 3
rd)
and strikeouts per nine innings (14.13, 2nd
).
CELEBRATING BY THE BAY: On this date in 2006, the Dodgers
won the National League Wild Card when their 4-2 victory over the
Giants in San Francisco eliminated the Philadelphia Phillies. Greg
Maddux went 7.0 innings for the win while Kenny Lofton paced the
offense with three hits and two runs scored. Until the Dodger party last
night, the Wild Card win and ensuing field storm was the only time an
opposing team had celebrated on the field at AT&T Park.
ONESIE: Lost in the shuffle of last night’s clincher was Clayton
Kershaw’s one-hitter, the Dodgers’ first one-hitter since 2008, when
Hiroki Kuroda stymied the Braves on July 7 at Dodger Stadium.
CONGRATS TO ZACK!: The Los Angeles Dodgers announced
today that right-hander Zack Greinke was named the winner of the
10th annual Roy Campanella Award, which is given to the Dodger
player who best exemplifies the spirit and leadership of the late Hall of
Fame catcher. The award, which was voted on by Dodger uniformed
personnel, will be presented to Greinke by Campanella’s daughter,
Joni Campanella Roan, during pregame ceremonies Sunday. Former
Dodgers to win the award include Rafael Furcal (2006), Russell
Martin (2007), James Loney (2008), Juan Pierre (2009), Jamey Carroll
(2010), Matt Kemp (2011), A.J. Ellis (2012) and Clayton Kershaw
(2013-14), who became the award’s first two-time recipient.
