Belczak’s BulletinMOst HOlY tRinitY

In today’s reading, Jesus explains to us the real reason he come into the world. He

did not wish to condemn us or to scare us into obeying God’s laws, but rather to show us he

loves us and wants us to respond to that love by loving him in return. The Bible often

compares this love between God and his people to the love between a husband and wife.

A husband, who knows his wife doesn’t like to pump gas, fills the tank before she

uses the car. A wife who doesn’t like science fiction will watch a pay for view movie on cable

television because it is his favorite movie. The husband and wife do these things not because they have to but

because they want to express their love for each other.

Our relationship with God is very similar. Just as the husband and wife communicate their likes and dislikes

to each other, God communicates his likes and dislikes to us through the Scripture. Just as a couple show their

love for God by doing certain things and avoiding others, we show our love for God by doing what pleases God and

avoiding what saddens God. That sounds simple enough, but in reality, showing our love for God is often difficult.

Sometimes we think of the Ten Commandments simply as a list of do’s and don’ts

and maybe only reluctantly follow them because we don’t want to go to hell when we

die. When this is how we view the commandments, we are forgetting the reason God

gave them to us.

Because the Commandments are God’s way of telling us what pleases him and

what does not please him, obeying them is like to wife going to the Star Wars movie or

the husband pumping gas. Following the commandments, then, shows our love for God.

If we understand the Commandments in this way, we will no longer ask if we have to

obey them but we will want to obey them because that is what loving God is all about.

PuBlic Mass RetuRns

Last weekend we opened up for public Masses – and while fearing for the worst case scenario of having to

turn people away due to space limitations and keeping ourselves “socially distant” – it was very peaceful.

Attendance at each Mass was less than expected; allowing for everyone to feel comfortable and safe while

attending church. I anticipate that our numbers will slowly increase each weekend through the summer months,

but I remind those who are most vulnerable that our Archbishop has dispensed all the faithful of the Archdiocese

of Detroit from their Sunday obligation to attend Sunday Mass through Sunday, September 6, 2020.

I also wish to remind everyone that we will adhere to the Saint Kenneth Guidelines regarding the

resumption of public Mass. Face Covering must be worn in and around the church. At Saint Kenneth our policy is

“No Mask – No Mass.” We must practice social distancing in the church as well as in the parking lot.

At communion, the faithful should keep their facial mask in place in order to minimize germ transmission

between the minister distributing communion and the person receiving communion. After receiving communion

in their hand, the faithful should carefully move aside about 6 feet, and then remove their face mask to receive the

Body of Christ. The communion ministers will sanitize their hands prior to and after the distribution of Holy

Communion.

The doors of the church will either be propped open or a minister will open the door as you enter and

leave the church building. Song books and hymnals will not be used. An individual song sheet including the Gloria,

Creed, and the Saint Kenneth post communion prayer will be provided for each person attending Mass. At the end

of Mass, this “one time use” worship aid should be dropped in the designated container at the doors of the church

to that it can be properly recycled.

Currently, our parish office will remain closed at least until the “stay safe, stay home” executive order is

cancelled. It is our intention to resume limited office hours in the weeks ahead – more information will be

forthcoming.

The Sacrament of reconciliation (private confession) is available by appointment only. Our reconciliation

room is not large enough to provide adequate space to allow for proper social distancing between penitent and

the priest. If you desire to celebrate the Sacrament of reconciliation, please call the parish office and leave a

message for me at extension 11.

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will be suspended until further notice. Adoration of the Blessed

Sacrament will resume as soon as we can determine how best to ensure the health, safety and well being of those

who come for adoration; and to guarantee that there will always be someone in the church praying before the

Blessed Sacrament during the hours of exposition.

Last Sunday, May 31st I celebrated my 40th Anniversary of Ordination! It was so good to be able to

celebrate the eucharist with the presence of parishioners in the congregation. The past forty years have been a

blessing to me in so many ways. I am fortunate to have the love and support of so many wonderful parishioners,

family and close personal friends. Over the past sixteen years that I have been honored to be Pastor of Saint

Kenneth. I have been enriched by your faithfulness, embraced by your affection, and encouraged by your support.

your generosity, kindness and hospitality have overwhelmed me – and I am extremely grateful! Please know that I

offer a prayer of gratitude for you each day. I also know that you will continue to keep me in your thoughts and

prayers as well. God bless you!

I also owe a debt of gratitude to our Music Minster Amy Sauve for her collaboration with the staff and our

musicians in surprising and honoring me with a special song written and performed at all the weekend Masses

including the Video Mass on our website. I was moved to tears each time it was sung – and thought that you

might like to enjoy reading the words of the song on the following page: We ask the lord to Bless You, Dedicated

to Fr. tom Belczak, Music by amy sauve, lyrics by the people of saint kenneth. a printable PDF can be found on

the Music Ministries page of the website at www.stkenneth.org.

Toms’ Thoughts: A chicken crossing the road is poultry in motion!

Stay safe. Stay optimistic. Stay healthy!

With love and appreciation!

We Ask the Lord to Bless you

Verse 1

Once in a while, you meet someone, who serves so faithfully,

Touches many hearts, and many lives, with laughter on the journey.

What can we say to give you thanks? How can we show we care?

your holy service gives us hope and strength; you’re loved, beyond compare.

It’s you we now applaud; you are a child of God.

Bridge

you were called to comfort those in sorrow, called to bring us peace.

you make our temporary dwelling place, where we long to be.

Refrain

We ask the Lord to bless you, bless you, we pray.

Verse 2

you offer a warm word of welcome. your serenades have made us smile.

Serving us faithfully for 40 years, being our light all the while.

It’s you we now applaud; you are a child of God.

Bridge

you were called to comfort those in sorrow, called to bring us peace.

you make our temporary dwelling place, where we long to be.

Refrain

We ask the Lord to bless you, bless you, (bless you),

Women's Book

club

Due to the Covid-19

pandemic and for the safety

of our group members, we

have decided not to meet

for Book Club this summer.

We hope to resume on

September 17 at 7:00 PM when we will discuss the book

we had planned for March. That book is “Small Great

Things” by Jodi Picoult. On October 15 at 7:00 PM, we

will discuss April’s book “The Giver of Stars” by Jojo

Moyes. We look forward to seeing everyone in the fall.

Please stay safe and God bless.

Women’s spirituality group

If you are following our monthly readings in The

universal Christ, in June we will read the Appendices

and Appendix 1 & 2. If we are unable to gather in June, I

am inviting those who are willing to write a brief

summary regarding: if this book challenged, enriched,

confirmed or confused you? And specifically in what

way? By the end of June please send your responses to

Sally at [email protected] who will then collate them

and send them to each of us whether we responded or

not. I hope some of you will share

your gleanings to enlighten and

enrich us even if it is just a sentence

or two.

Peace and Love, Sr. Arlene
