A dventurer Ann Price returns to Bemis to give a riveting account and show photos of her experiences in Nepal during the recent earthquake and her latest climbing expedition, Tuesday, January 12, 7–8 p.m. Price made her first trip to Nepal after her 64 th birthday when she decided to go on a five- month trek through the Himalayas, hiking in altitudes of over 20,000 feet. On a subsequent trip she was in the town of Phortse Tango, Nepal when she heard a thunderous rumble and the ground started to open up. Price survived the quake and remained in Nepal, despite numerous aftershocks, to help survivors. She will talk about lessons learned from the earthquake and from a major health crisis that occurred on a high pass during her recent hiking expedition to Nepal in October, 2015. The film features actors Josh Brolin, Sam Worthington, Jake Gyllenhaal and Keira Knightly. Enjoy free popcorn and lemonade at the showing. Rated PG-13. The Astronauts' Wives

S ee a dramatic and poignant presentation on the first two groups of American astronauts and their wives, Monday, January 25, 2–3 p.m. Presenter Pat Kenning will share the lives of these

families—all military and all unprepared for unknown space adventures. The astronauts' wives supported their proud, tense and even fearful husbands. Overnight, these women were transformed from military spouses into American royalty. They had tea with Jackie Kennedy, appeared on the cover of Life magazine, and quickly grew into fashion icons. As their celebrity rose, and as divorce and tragedy began to touch their lives, the wives continued to rally together, forming bonds that lasted for over half a century. B emis has 24 Internet access computers on the

lower level of the library, plus another seven located in the Children’s Room for use by our patrons in 5th grade and younger. Also, wireless Internet access is available throughout the building for patrons with wireless-enabled devices. Currently, our computers use Microsoft Windows 7 operating systems and Microsoft Office 2010 software that includes Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Publisher. All of our PCs are linked to printers. Printing costs are $0.10 a page for black only or $0.50 a page for color. Our computer lab has 10 PCs and may be scheduled for group use. We are happy to assist patrons individually if you need help using the computers or the Internet. We also offer free computer and Internet classes on a regular basis. Book Groups at Bemis

W e have a variety of Book Groups that meet throughout the month. Choose a group that suits your interests and schedule. Then join us for some stimulating discussions.

B eginning in February, the library will be providing free tax return preparation for taxpayers who cannot

afford professional assistance. IRS trained volunteers will be available in the study rooms on the lower level of the library from February 4–April 14 on Thursday evenings from 5–7:30 p.m. and on Saturdays from noon–3:30 p.m. No pre-registration is required to receive assistance. Appointments are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. You may sign in for assistance, on the lower level of the library, beginning at 4 p.m. on Thursdays and 11 a.m. on Saturdays. The AARP will provide tax preparation help, with trained volunteers, in the reference area of the library from February 1–April 12, Mondays and Tuesdays, 9:15 a.m.–1:45 p.m. Appointments are required for this assistance, which is provided for low and middle-income seniors aged 60 and over. Free Tax Help!

S ix of the top 20 books currently selling on Amazon are ‘adult coloring books.’ They are creative, often intricate

books depicting flowers, gardens, animals, forests, etc. Join us while we choose from a variety of pictures and have a stress-relieving afternoon of coloring. Coloring sessions will take place the third Sunday of the month, January 17, February 21, March 20, April 17 and May 15, 2–3:30 p.m., in the library’s conference room. Coloring generates wellness, quietness and also stimulates brain areas related to motor skills and creativity. Colored pencils and markers will be provided as well as light refreshments. No registration is required. Drop in to participate in any of the scheduled sessions. This program is for adults only.

It’s a Scavenger Hunt!

Work alone or bring a friend or two and see if you can decipher the clues. and Gromit, Shaun the Sheep gets more than he bargained for

when a day off leads to an epic adventure in the big city. Now it's

up to Shaun to safely return his farmer and flock to the green

grass of home. Snacks will be provided. For ages 3 and up.

All Together Now Story Time

J oin us for a brand new story time beginning January 25. All Together Now Story Time is 30 minutes of stories, songs and activities especially designed

for 2–3 year olds and their caregivers. Older and younger children may attend, but children under the age of 3 must attend with an adult. All Together Now

Story Time will be held on Mondays at 9:30 a.m.

Weekly Programs resume on January 5.

All Together Now Story Time: Ages 3–5 Mondays at 9:30 a.m. beginning January 25 Thirty minutes of stories, songs and activities perfect for 2–3 year olds. Older and younger children may attend, but children under the age of 3 must attend with an adult.

Story Box: Ages infant–36 months Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 9:30 & 10:30 a.m. plus Fridays at 9:30 a.m. A 30-minute session for children and a caring adult to introduce the joys of rhythm, rhyme and reading. Space is limited; free required tickets are available one week in advance.

Preschool Story Time: Ages 3–Kindergarten Thursdays and Fridays at 10:30 a.m. Thirty minutes of stories, songs and activities with a puppet show the first week of the month.

Ready, Set, BUILD Lego Club: For kids in grades K–5 Saturday, January 2 at 2 p.m. Legos will be provided, so please do not bring any blocks from home. Registration begins one week in advance.
