Blessed readers, bear with us as we unfold themysteries of God. Be patient with our effort as

together we walk and talk with Jesus and the ser-vant-sons in heaven whose revelations we bear. Foras emissaries of their teaching, we must attempt tomake plain according to twentieth-century think-ing and beyond and theological modality a vastgnosis of the Lord that does and does not necessar-ily fit the mind-sets and mind-traps of the very onesfor whom his Lost Teaching is sent.

 Above all, have patience with yourself, endureto the end of our treatise and pray fervently and with-out fear to the Holy Spirit to enlighten you—boththrough and beyond the written word. These pagesare a garden path where you meet the Lord Jesus andthe masterful beings and intelligences who comprise

the “cloud of witnesses” to the Universal Christ,whose point of Light is also in ourselves.

 You won’t find two dozen lost parables with acast of sowers, servants, rich men, virgins and mus-tard seeds. But you will learn from our cast of Fords,Chevys, homegrown philosophers, our Pierre andour parrot and from the many portraits of life fromwhich Jesus has drawn to teach us the fine points of the Law.

 You won’t find verbatim the words and phrasesexpunged from the Gospels, but you will find the

essential truths they contained as well as some ofthe Lord’s most precious secrets which we hereintranscribe—some plain for all to see, some hiddenin enigma for riddle lovers and detectives to sleuthand solve. You may find yourself rereading thesevolumes as you carefully choose the missing pieces

their simplicity, when understood they lead to thecomplexities of the Law of every man’s true naturein God.

The four books in this series consist of fourteenlectures delivered by Mark between 1965 and 1973,illuminated by the lessons Jesus has given us indictations, sermons and letters over the past thirtyyears. The message that unfolds as the rose of Sharon is compiled from these as well as privateconversations with the Master. It is the Lord’s gift toyour soul, that you might keep his flame and notlose the way when the darkness of personal andplanetary karma covers the land and all else fails of human institutions and nations and their armiesand armaments.

The prophecy is fulfilled. That which was spokento the disciples in the upper room is being shoutedfrom the housetops. At last the path of discipleshipto which Jesus called his chosen does appear for allto see and know and enter in these end times of thePiscean age—for the Light of Aquarius dawns.

Jesus himself that through these pages and your one-ness with his sacred heart, you may seek and find thekeys to the kingdom.

These are the very things that God hasrevealed to us through the Spirit, for the Spiritreaches the depths of everything, even thedepths of God. After all, the depths of a mancan only be known by his own spirit, not by anyother man, and in the same way the depths of God can only be known by the Spirit of God.

Now instead of the spirit of the world, wehave received the Spirit that comes from God, toteach us to understand the gifts that he has given us. Therefore we teach, not in the way inwhich philosophy is taught, but in the way

that the Spirit teaches us: we teach spiritualthings spiritually.1

The Ladder of Life

Long ago, it was spoken by the Lord, “Whatwent ye out to see? A reed shaken by the

wind?” And the word returned, “But what went ye

out for to see? A prophet? yea, I say unto you, andmore than a prophet.”1

The Scriptures and the Living Master 

 We all came into embodiment less than onehundred years ago, less than fifty years ago, less thantwenty-five years ago, and some even less than fifteenor sixteen years ago. Yet, although endowed withfree will and a clean slate on which to write a newand nobler chapter in our book of life, we have beenalmost forced into accepting what the ministers havetold us is so: that there has been no tampering withthe Bible as the word of God, but there has beentampering with everything else in existence.

Now, the indoctrination of the people by theclergy has far-reaching implications. And since weare all affected by it, we ought to say a few wordsabout the hand-me-down religions that have fallenin our laps.

For, if the Bible is the complete and unadul-terated word of God—written by him and not bymere mortals (who most assuredly held the pen)—then we should believe every word literally inter-preted for us by these well-meaning pastors whodesire to save our souls. Yet in the Bible itself arewritten these words: “The letter killeth but theSpirit giveth life.”2

Now, if I read this correctly, it means weshould not be bound to or by a literal interpretationbut liberated by and through the Holy Spirit’s trans-literation of the scriptures—moving from condem-nation to the glory of God’s righteousness with us.

From time to time we have asked present-daypastors the following questions, and so far therehave been no satisfactory answers forthcoming:

If the Bible texts alone could save us, then whydid Jesus find it necessary to promise us the enlight-enment of the Holy Spirit who would come to us

as our Comforter, Friend, and Teacher to bring toour remembrance all those things which Christ hasbeen teaching our souls from the beginning?3

If Jesus did not entrust our souls to the writtenword alone, then why should we?

Nor could the brethren respond meaningfully

to our inquiries on the integral relationship of Pauland Jesus:

If the Gospels were the final word and theGospel writers and apostles had perfect under-standing, then to what end was the conversion of Saul of Tarsus?

Clearly, it had to have been for a very specialpurpose that the Master Jesus personally undertookthe tutoring of Paul, whose experiences and writ-ings in Christ dominate the New Testament.

In Truth, his mission was to build Christ’sChurch upon the Rock of his personal encounterwith the Lord—to convert the ‘Gentiles’, their lead-ers, and the children of Light and to elucidateChrist’s Person and Presence as the living Saviourin sermons and letters delivered throughout AsiaMinor and the Mediterranean over a period of thirty years.

But this Paul had still another mission—oneto be gleaned from his example and that of theresurrected Christ working with him throughouthis life as the Lord’s ministering servant. It istheir integral relationship that affords insight in-to the bond of Ascended Master and unascendeddisciple and through it the fusion of heaven and

earth—as when a nova appears in the firmamentto beckon us to the higher calling through theI AM THAT I AM.

 And so we offer some answers that are not ourown but which were given to us from the heart of our brother Jesus, our Mother Mary and the apos-

tle Paul himself, communicated to us through theHoly Spirit.

The mission of Paul, persecutor of Christians,he having consented to the heartless stoning of Saint Stephen,4 was confirmed through one An-anias to whom the Lord appeared saying, “Go thy

way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear myname before the Gentiles and kings and the chil-dren of Israel. For I will shew him how great thingshe must suffer for my name’s sake.”

 And so Saul, who had been struck to theground and blinded in his encounter with theMaster on his way to Damascus as he was yet“breathing out threatenings and slaughter againstthe disciples,” was now prayerfully waiting forinstructions in the house of Judas—and for the onewho would restore his sight.

 Ananias, following the Lord’s directions to thestreet called Straight, entered the house “and put-ting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord,even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way asthou camest, hath sent me that thou mightestreceive thy sight and be filled with the Holy Ghost.”

By the act of this messenger, Paul had theimmediate proof that the voice he had heard midst

the blinding light was none other than that of Jesushimself:

“Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?”Thus, it is recorded that through the Lord’s

instrument, Ananias, “immediately there fell fromhis eyes as it had been scales, and he received sight

forthwith and arose and was baptized.” And thedisciples fed him and he was strengthened and hestayed with them “certain days.”

But the more abundant proof of the Master’svoice that yet echoed in the chambers of his heart—“I AM Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for

thee to kick against the pricks. . . . Arise, and go intothe city and it shall be told thee what thou mustdo”—is that straightway after his conversion andbaptism of the Holy Ghost “he preached Christ inthe synagogues, that he is the Son of God.”

 After many days of this, even to the con-founding of the Jews in Damascus, proving tothem that this Master Jesus is the “very Christ,” theJews took counsel to kill him: “But their layingawait was known of Saul. And they watched thegates day and night to kill him. Then the disciplestook him by night, and let him down by the wallin a basket.”5

 As always, the presence of the Holy Spirit inthe power of conversion side by side with persecu -tions is the greatest proof of our oneness withChrist—“The servant is not greater than his lord:if they have persecuted me, they will also perse-cute you.”6

Paul’s direct and touching relationship withhis Lord shows the intended friendship and per-sonal initiatic path Jesus holds for every one ofus—once we allow ourselves to be fully converted(the word means “turned around, transformed asa new creature in Christ”) and subject unto the

Universal Christ in life and death and eternity.

preceding the birth of Messiah. Two thousand yearsago they taught and initiated the one they called Issa(the Buddhist name for Jesus), who came to thehigh Himalayas as a youth, the hidden Christ yetto be revealed.7

Let those who object to the idea of Jesus’being initiated by the Eastern adepts be remindedof a similar objection voiced by John the Baptistwhen Jesus came from Galilee to be baptized of him: “I have need to be baptized of thee, andcomest thou to me?” This, you will recall, wasovercome through Jesus’ own words which embod-ied his recognition of the true Initiator, God theFather, who, as he wills, may employ the worthyinstrument to effect his transfer of Light: “Sufferit to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfilall righteousness.”8 And John the Baptist, chosenMessenger of the LORD’s descent in the incarnate Word, was a worthy instrument indeed for Jesus’

baptism by the Holy Ghost. As Jesus Christ was made a priest forever after

the Order of Melchizedek, so did he also descendfrom the one known to Daniel as the Ancient of Days. And all who preceded him in the lineage of the original Keepers of the Flame of Life on earth

both East and West certainly did lay their crowns(attainment) at his feet for the victory of the PisceanConqueror and the victory of his Universal Christ-hood in all children of God.

 As Jesus was taken by his parents to Egypt forthe first seven years of his life that the prophecy

so we contemplate his journey to the Eastsowing and reaping seeds of Cosmic Christ con-sciousness for all nations and peoples—gatheringthe stones of an ancient pyramid of Teaching uponwhich he was to place the capstone. And we arereminded of his own timeless prophecy of hisreturn to Palestine after his sojourn in India andTibet: “As the lightning cometh out of the East andshineth even unto the West, so shall also thecoming of the Son of man be.”10 And those wholook for his Second Coming today also look to theEast. Yet they know not why.

 Yet, this Son of man embodied the quintes-sence of the lights of Eastern antiquity. And by hisLife, transfiguring the past into a glorious future,we know the Way; by his voice speaking in us andthrough us we know his true Universal Doctrine.

The Eastern term for the office Jesus held isGuru, meaning God-man, the dispeller of dark-

ness—the incarnation of the Word (Avatar) whois Teacher, Initiator par excellence.* There is nohigher office held on the initiatic scale by onein physical embodiment (though the degrees ofattainment by the officeholder may vary accordingto his concentration and endurance on the initiatic

path). The Eastern term for the office held by Paulis chela—servant of the God-man, devotee of theLight of Christ in the One Sent, the Living Masterwho wears the mantle of Guru.

Jesus further taught us that by the Light of theinner Christ we are not only authorized but surelycompelled in the vortex of our fiery destiny todeclare the I AM THAT I AM as our eternal nature:

“From the beginning unto the ending, theI AM in me, the Be-ness that I AM, is Christ. This

Presence is my original and consummate Reality—a Light to lighten my way, the Knower and theknown. Upon this Principle I chart my course. Bythis fixed Polestar I determine my position day byday, centered, longitude and latitude, in the gridof Christ on the cross of Life.”

doors by a great earthquake,

would become theliberator of those who were to protest the sensualand superstitious materialism bred by an orthodoxywhich was to lock up the mysteries and throw awaythe keys to the kingdom until the time appointed forthe angel to fly in mid-heaven (in the plane of Christthe Mediator), having this time not a circumspectman-made gospel but an everlasting gospel.16

This Everlasting Gospel is given one by oneto the disciples of the Ascended Master Jesus theChrist who first receive him in his ‘Second Com-ing’ in heart and mind and soul and body as Pauldid. The Everlasting Gospel is the direct and living Word which Christ declared would not pass away—though heaven and earth should pass away.17 This Word is what his spiritual apostolic succession wasintended to deliver to the little children in Christ—by his Body and his Blood nurtured in them. InDivine Reality Jesus anointed spiritual shepherds

who were to feed his sheep every day until theyshould put on Christ’s consciousness to becomefully heirs of individual Sonship.

 Advancing on the pure path, John was to bearthe torch of Love’s revelation, illumining the wayof Christian mysticism, leading all of the faithful

to the fount of Christ Reality present as potential ineach member of the Universal Church, and deliver-ing all from a worldwide orthodoxy grown cold (anancient/modern “easy way out”) in order that finallythey might engage the psyche in the Lord’s real Work: Christ-centeredness in the Rock.

Paul’s preachments—his supreme humilitybefore the inner Christ, born out of his heart-contact with Jesus—laid the spiritual, as opposedto the ecclesiastical, foundations of the earlyChurch for those who could read and run withChrist’s Spirit in them.

It should be noted that whereas Jesus gave keysto Peter18 which must be used in order to beretained—and which Peter indeed retained untilhe and his successors allowed them to fall into dis-use—to Paul and John he gave the gift of Himself.

Into their hearts the Piscean Avatar enteredand there he lives forevermore. In them his Wordshall not pass away, for today they are AscendedMasters unto his glory. But alas, Jesus has shownus the sad record that the soul of Peter remainstreading karma in the valley of decision (and hisown indecision) as does the Church which still fol-lows his incomplete example, his unfinished work.

The Universal Church of Jesus Christ com-posed of the saints in heaven and on earth, func-tional as Christ’s Mystical Body, is built upon theRock of the unity of the soul with Christ throughthe I AM Presence.19 This Body of the LORD—of the I AM THAT I AM who does embody in those

who keep the Flame of God—is shared in by allwho have entered the universality of Christ’s tri-umphant nature and doctrine, regardless of theirreligious affiliation or race.

Thus, inherent in Paul’s writings is our deliv-erance from the mechanisms of a symbolic but dead

Jewish as well as Christian ritual—handed down asa form devoid of the “Living Flame of Love.”* Theconceptualization of this Love having been so beau-tifully captured—as far as anyone can capture theself-transforming vital force of the spiritual fire—by the sixteenth-century saint, John of the Cross.20

The body of believers and backsliders and thereprobate to whom Paul preached was the forma-tive community of the called-out ones (Gk. ekklesia).They had been called out from the worldly con-sciousness by the flame within to form the circleof the Corpus Christi—the Body of Christ. Theyknew they must provide the chalice for “the Light of the world”21 in order that earth and her evolutionsmight be rekindled by the Light of the Trinitywhich their Saviour bore and promised to transmitthrough his closest initiates to the childlike, thepure in heart, the believers in the Word in him.

Regarding the Revelation of Jesus Christ to his

beloved John—the mystic of Love—the Master hastold us that he intended it to be the clearest proof that he has the freedom and does exercise it at willto deliver his progressive revelations to whomsoeverhe may choose. And furthermore that he may“send” and “signify” his mysteries, at any time, by

his angels, by the Holy Ghost, or by his own I AMPresence—face to face in the divine encounterwith his own.22

Our beloved Jesus has told us to tell you that

these promises, these divinely intercessary experi-ences, are for you and for me, beloved. They areour birthright as joint-heirs of the essential God-hood of the Sons of God. And this Word and Workof the Everlasting Gospel, which we present to youherewith, radiant with the Master’s presence andthe power of his Holy Spirit, is living proof of hiswitness unto us. You need only try our spirits bythe Spirit quickened within your heart to know thatour testimony is true.

The Master Jesus Christ OpensOur Understanding

The Master said to the Jews who sought to killhim: “You search the scriptures, believing thatthrough them you will obtain eternal Life, yet youcome not to Christ for Life—of whom these veryscriptures testify as the One Sent to give youeternal Life.”23

Once again the unillumined pastors are silenton the question:

If the deeper meaning of the scriptures wereself-evident, even to the initiated disciples, then whydid it become necessary for the Master Jesus to“open their understanding that they might under-

stand the scriptures”? This took place late in hismission—even after his crucifixion and resurrec-tion, just before “he was parted from them andcarried up into heaven,” as recorded by Luke.24

This necessity for the opening of their under -standing bears the implication of the further neces-

sity which Jesus made plain to us—the raising of

consciousness to oneness in the Mind of Christ,which is achieved only by the direct intercessionof one who has attained that ‘Mindfulness’, i.e.,the Master Jesus Christ.

He is here, now as then, to exalt your heartand mind and soul to that same ‘upper room’ of consciousness (that altered state that gives accessto the etheric planes and the soul’s inner memoryof God) where the disciples were fed the Word. And to this end he has called us today to publishhis Everlasting Gospel.

So that the Truth will not be lost. So that youwill have it for your victory, even as the Masters of the Himalayas kept the secrets from the foundationof the world—for the coming of the eternal youth:for the day and the hour of the journey of Jesus,the One Sent, to the retreats of the Great WhiteBrotherhood* to retrieve the lost Word for the seedof the Ancient of Days who had forgotten the Way.

Therefore, inasmuch as it is clear that at everyhand the disciples needed Jesus to interpret theinner mysteries of the parables, that they bothquestioned and doubted him throughout his mis-sion and were still “terrified” and “affrighted” atthe end, and that the Master found it necessary to

“upbraid them with their unbelief and hardnessof heart” just before his final parting,25 the ardentdevotee of Christ ought to consider that perhapstheir perception, or want of it, of the Person of

Christ as the Universal Word, and of the man Jesusas the son of man, has clouded Christian theologyto the present.

Therefore we do know that the fullness of themystery of the Incarnation is reserved for the heart-to-heart communion of the Lord with each one of us as we are able to receive it—even as he makesus able. As we do not trust our own five senses tobear accurate witness in mundane matters, how canwe trust that of squabbling, rivalrous disciples—who deserted him in his most severe trial—to bearwitness in spiritual matters of ultimate consequenceto our salvation?

Neither do we trust our own private interpre-tation of scripture, but only that which the Spiritfreely gives us. For no man’s flesh and blood caninherit the kingdom (consciousness) of God26—butonly the soul who is one in the Spirit. Because wehave that Spirit we confess that he is LORD27—the

incarnation of the I AM THAT I AM on earth andin heaven—one in the Universal Christ throughoutthe Spirit-Matter cosmos.

Thus, the written word, set forth by inspiredmen, some of clearer understanding than others, isat best the instrument of a direct, divine interven-

tion through God’s Word that speaks to our heartsrevealing a series of stepping-stones for our soul’strek up the mountain of Divine Selfhood.

concerning the life and teaching of Jesus Christand the patriarchs and prophets as well, pivotalTruths necessary to the soul’s advancement—factsthat were known, mind you, at the time thatChurch councils codified the scriptures whichhave been handed down to us.

In certain cases these facts have been replacedwith an attempted orthodox and very physical,doctrinal interpretation of the events surroundingthe birth, life, and death of the founder of Chris-tianity. The result being that for some, salvation isnot looked for, hoped for, and worked for throughthe kingdom (consciousness) of God that he saidis “within you,”28 but is rather pursued solelythrough the God within Jesus by means of a vicari-ous atonement.

The Discovery of the Secret Gospel of Mark

 A recent discovery shows that the Gospelwriters themselves omitted doctrines they thoughtshould be kept from the profane.

It seems there was a secret Gospel of Markwritten for the inner circle of disciples of Christ.It came to light in 1958 when Professor Morton

Smith found a copy of a letter written by Clementof Alexandria in Mar Saba monastery in the Judeandesert which actually quoted from that Gospel.Here is an excerpt of Clement’s letter, who was ina position to know of this Gospel since, as Smithpoints out, it was a treasured heirloom of his

church—and Clement had an interest in secretteachings.

[As for] Mark, then, during Peter’s stayin Rome he wrote [an account of] the Lord’sdoings, not, however, declaring all [of them],nor yet hinting at the secret [ones], but

selecting those he thought most useful forincreasing the faith of those who were beinginstructed. But when Peter died as a mar-tyr . . . he composed a more spiritual Gospelfor the use of those who were being per-fected. Nevertheless, he yet did not divulge

the things not to be uttered.29

The Teachings of Jesus which Mark wrotedown have been lost, except for the fragmentsquoted by Clement. But they are very importantfragments. One is a parallel to the Lazarus story,which only appears in the Book of John. It had

always seemed strange that only one of the Gos-pels should record this most important miracle byJesus—the raising of the dead. The passage fromthe secret Gospel reads:

 And they come into Bethany, and a

certain woman, whose brother had died,was there. And, coming, she prostrated her-self before Jesus and says to him, “Son of David, have mercy on me.” But the disci-ples rebuked her. And Jesus, being angered,went off with her into the garden where thetomb was, and straightway a great cry was

heard from the tomb. And going near Jesusrolled away the stone from the door of thetomb. And straightway, going in where theyouth was, he stretched forth his hand andraised him, seizing his hand. But the youth,looking upon him, loved him and began tobeseech him that he might be with him. Andgoing out of the tomb they came into thehouse of the youth, for he was rich. And aftersix days Jesus told him what to do and in theevening the youth comes to him, wearing alinen cloth over [his] naked [body]. And heremained with him that night, for Jesustaught him the mystery of the kingdom of God. And thence, arising, he returned to theother side of the Jordan.30

This fragment not only provides reinforcementfor the Lazarus miracle but also explains a portion

of the Gospel of Mark which has baffled scholarsfor centuries. At the point of Jesus’ arrest on the Mount of 

Olives, Mark gives the following verses: “And therefollowed him a certain young man, having a linencloth cast about his naked body; and the youngmen laid hold on him: And he left the linen cloth,and fled from them naked.”31

Smith reasons that Jesus was baptizing theyoung man in a rite similar to that which headministered to the Lazarus figure in the secretgospel after he had raised him from the dead.The circumstances are the same, he says—similar

attire, nocturnal meeting—and the stream at thefoot of the Mount of Olives could have providedthe water.32 This seems the best explanation yet forthe presence of the peculiarly attired young manat Jesus’ arrest.

 Another thing the secret Gospel does is pre-sent evidence of a deletion in the Gospel. Are youfamiliar with Mark 10:46 which reads, “And theycame to Jericho: and as he went out of Jericho withhis disciples...”?33  What happened in Jericho? Whatever it was, it was taken out.

Clement’s letter apparently quotes the sameverse: “And he comes into Jericho and the sisterof the youth whom Jesus loved and his mother andSalome were there . . .” Smith believes that Clem -ent himself added the concluding words to thissentence, “. . . and Jesus did not receive them,” inorder to discredit Salome, a woman of ill reputewhose name was deleted from Matthew, Luke and

John34 (whether by the Gospel writers or someoneelse, we do not know).

But we must ask ourselves, Who decided toleave this sentence (and any story which might haveensued about Salome) out of the Gospel of Mark?Did Mark do it because he thought it belonged

only in the secret gospel? If so, why would he havemade such a clumsy edit on his own work?

Clement says the secret Gospel is an expan-sion of the Gospel of Mark, but Smith speculates:“What if the secret text had been earlier, andcanonical Mark had been cut down from it?”35

That would explain the deletion. But this leads usto wonder: How many other accounts of Jesus’words and works were lifted out? How many editswere made?

If Clement edited the sentence about Salomein his letter, as seems likely, from the ChurchFather’s use of a Greek verb virtually unheard of in Mark, Smith points out, we may ask where theediting ended. If Clement, who was a ChurchFather and saint, had no scruples about editing asentence of the document he said was the “morespiritual gospel,” how can we be sure he or theother fathers did not commit further editing, “forthe good of the people,” on this and the manuscriptthat has been handed down to us as the Gospelof Mark?

The twentieth century has also brought forthother gospels that are not in the Bible. These werefound at Nag Hammadi in Egypt in December

1945 by an Arab peasant who discovered a libraryof ancient texts in a jar. The esoteric Gospel of Thomas found there opens with these words:“These are the secret sayings which the living Jesusspoke...”36

But this gospel and others like it were de-

nounced as heretical by second-century ChurchFathers like Irenaeus, an orthodox bishop whowrote around  A .D. 180 in his  Against Heresies,“[The heretics] boast that they possess more gospelsthan there really are. . . . They really have no gospelwhich is not full of blasphemy.”37

 And what was Irenaeus’ reasoning for denyingthe other gospels? Well naturally, there were fourcorners of the universe, and four primary winds,therefore there could only be four genuinegospels! And secondly, he claimed that only thesefour gospels were the “true and reliable” work of Jesus’ disciples or their followers—calling the oth-ers forgeries, “apocryphal and spurious writings”that were “totally unlike those which have beenhanded down to us from the apostles.”38

It becomes more and more evident that theTeachings of Jesus have been altered and lost—whether by his own stipulation of secrecy, by thedetermination of the disciples, by the decay ofmanuscripts, or by the councils of the ChurchFathers and later theologians.

 We also know of the Lost Years of Jesus—between the ages of twelve and thirty—and of theancient texts which say he journeyed to India. But

do you know that there are also early writings whichsay that Jesus did not ascend right after his resurrec-tion, but that he left Palestine and journeyed allover the world preaching the Word, healing andfreeing the people from human bondage?

During the subapostolic age and the second

century, there was a tradition of a long interval be-tween the resurrection and the ascension. We hearthis from the writings of none other than the ChurchFather Irenaeus. Astoundingly, given his readinessto denounce any other gospels, he tells us that Jesuslived at least ten to twenty years after his crucifixion:

On completing His thirtieth year He suf-fered, being in fact still a young man, andwho had by no means attained to advancedage. Now, that the first stage of early lifeembraces thirty years, and that this extendsonwards to the fortieth year, every one willadmit; but from the fortieth and fiftieth yeara man begins to decline towards old age,which our Lord possessed while He still ful-filled the office of a Teacher, even as theGospel and all the elders testify; those whowere conversant in Asia with John, the dis-ciple of the Lord, [affirming] that John con-veyed to them that information.39

 And other manuscripts support this view. Thethird-century Gnostic text Pistis Sophia reads:

It came to pass, when Jesus had risenfrom the dead, that he passed eleven years

discoursing with his disciples and instruct-ing them.40

 Who knows what other precious facts con-cerning the life of the Master, what other teachingswhich might have changed the history of the lasttwo thousand years, remain buried—either in thedesert sands or in akasha.*

Because of such omissions and deletions, inmany quarters Jesus has become a god too perfectto approach, before whom we can only be helpless,hapless sinners incapable of walking in his footsteps

and working out our own salvation as he didthrough the same Christ Self-awareness he had. And the thing which the Master feared most iscome to pass—that those who see him do notbehold the Universal Christ who sent him.41

have reported Truth to us. All religious traditionshave reported to us error. This is not necessarilythe fault of any one segment of Christianity. Mostof us were born into the religion of our parents. And we came into this world not knowing exactlywhere we came from.

But I would point out to you that we all camefrom a common source and to that common sourceour souls will return. We came forth for a purposeand, fulfilled or unfulfilled, our souls will returnto that source at the close of this embodiment.Right or wrong, we are going someplace. We aremoving through time. Because the sand in thehourglass is falling all the time. And someday ourportion will be no more.

Therefore we ask the question: Why are wehere? And we all know—if we have any faith at allin the universe—that there must be a purpose.

Naturally, in this funny world where people

are manipulating people all the time—and liking it—only the Truth can make us free, if we want to be.

But what is the Truth? Christ stood beforePilate, and Pilate asked the question: “What isTruth?”43 And we ask the same question today. Weshould understand that here on earth Truth is

relative—there are half-truths, there are full truths,there are relative truths—and we have much tolearn as a race of Lightbearers running for the Sun.

I say this not from an ivory tower but in thehumble acknowledgment that I have from day today, by God’s grace, learned more of the Truth.

But I do not feel that I have it all. I feel thatTruth is progressive by nature and cannot be cod-ified into a creed with impunity. When we put itinto a creed, it becomes the letter that killeth. Wewant the Spirit that giveth life, because we cameforth from Spirit.

of hatred, of darkness or despair where most of usseek a palliative or a series of pleasures as a sub-stitute for the divine experience.

Have you ever read the account of Philip, oneof the disciples—how he was in a certain place andthe Spirit of the Lord suddenly picked him up andcarried him perhaps twenty miles away in aninstant?44  We live in a time where people wantinstant love, instant oatmeal, instant understand-ing, instant everything! Well, it happened in those

days. The Spirit picked him up and carried himto where it wanted him to be.

Thus seek and ye shall find the divine expe-rience!

In our experiences and travels in the FarEast, we have learned that it is nothing for the

unascended Masters of the Himalayas to pick aperson up, to wrap their cloak around him, andthen in a fraction of a second to have him 100, 150,200, 500 miles away—in the time it takes you tosnap your fingers.

little different.

 You see, in reality, what is boundis our sense of physicality. We think in terms of being fixed in space, of being in only one place ata time. Actually, the soul that is free within us—because it is related to the omnipresence of Godthat is everywhere—can be everywhere.

 And certain holy ones of God both East and West have been seen by their co-servers, ‘physically’,in more than one place at the same time. Biloca-tion is possible and it is achieved by the agency of the Holy Spirit through the law of replication. MoreI cannot say.

 You will recall that Sri Yukteswar did bilocatefor his chela, Paramahansa Yogananda.

One morning, Yogananda sat in his room. Hehad been expecting Sri Yukteswar to arrive by thenine a.m. train from Calcutta but had received atelepathic message that his guru would not be ontime, so he did not go to the station.

Suddenly “the clearly materialized figure of Sri Yukteswar” appeared in place of the window.“Bewildered to the point of shock, I rose from mychair and knelt before him,” Yogananda wrote.“With my customary gesture of respectful greetingat my guru’s feet, I touched his shoes. These were

a pair familiar to me, of orange-dyed canvas, soledwith rope. His ocher swami cloth brushed againstme; I distinctly felt not only the texture of his robe,but also the gritty surface of the shoes, and thepressure of his toes within them.”

“I have now finished my business in Calcutta,

and shall arrive in Serampore by the ten o’clocktrain,” Sri Yukteswar said.Sure enough, Sri Yukteswar was on that train,

wearing the same clothes as when he materializedin the room in Serampore, less than an hourbefore.46

To the adept, these things are not difficult.But they are difficult to explain.Consider the conversation in which Padre Pio,

the Italian priest who was seen to bilocate manytimes, was questioned about his gift by Dr. Wm.Sanguinetti, his personal physician:

Dr.: Padre Pio, when God sends a saint,for instance like St. Anthony to another placeby bilocation, is that person aware of it?

Padre Pio: Yes. One moment he is hereand the next moment he is where God wantshim.

Dr.: But is he really in two places atonce?Padre Pio: Yes.Dr.: How is this possible?Padre Pio: By a prolongation of his

personality.47

For some, this will be a mystery on top of amystery. For others it will be the key.

Padre Pio, you will remember, had receivedthe stigmata back in 1918. For many years he neverleft the monastery at San Giovanni Rotondo in Fog-gia, Italy—nevertheless, people as far away as

Hawaii and Wisconsin and all over Italy reportedthat he came to them and healed them and blessedthem personally. These visitations cannot be ex-plained as mere visions, for many of the things hedid could not have been done had he not beenthere physically.

He actually brought a reliquary to one nun inRome, at night, and was back in San Giovanni, 160miles away, at dawn to celebrate Mass. Once hecame to a little girl who was an epileptic, cured her,and put his hand on her bed sheet, leaving a crossof blood from his stigmata. They cut a square outof the sheet and framed it, and it is still there today.48

 Another time, he healed a woman in Genoa,a Mrs. Devoto, who was about to have her legamputated. As Rev. Carty writes in his book, oneof her daughters was praying that her mother wouldnot have to have this operation.

She also called upon Padre Pio for help.Suddenly she saw Padre Pio standing inher doorway, looking at her. Her desire toobtain the grace for her mother was so greatthat she did not stop to wonder how PadrePio could be in Genoa, instead of San

Giovanni Rotondo, hundreds of miles away,nor did she have the slightest doubt that hewas actually there in person. Throwing her-self on her knees she implored him, “Oh,Father, save my dear mother.” He looked ather and said, “Wait for nine days.” She

wanted to ask him for an explanation, sheraised her eyes but saw only the door of herroom, no light, no Padre Pio.

The next day she informed the doctorsthat they must wait. The doctors tried toconvince her in vain. Even the other mem-bers of her family when they saw that themother was growing worse each day, couldnot dissuade her from her decision to waitnine days as Padre Pio instructed her.

On the tenth day when the doctorsvisited their patient they were surprised tofind the leg completely healed and theirpatient well on the road to recovery.

Mother, father, sons, daughters, in-laws,and grandchildren all came to thank PadrePio for the grace which had been bestowedupon them, but Padre Pio will never acceptthanks and will always say rather gruffly: “Go

into the church and thank our Lord and theMother of Divine Graces.”49

So you see, he didn’t want any credit for it.God was in him and he gave glory to God. Andthe people knew it. He was genuine.

 Another time some devout people came upto him and asked if he had really appeared at theirprayer meeting the night before. “And who elsecould it have been?” he replied brusquely. He wasactually embarrassed and almost “painfully timid”when questioned about his supernatural abilities.

Still not convinced, they asked him again,“But Padre, were you really present with us at thatmeeting?” whereupon he chided them as Jesuswould have, “Do you still doubt it?”50

But, you know, people who are the instrumentof God’s miracles aren’t always as humble or as holyas Padre Pio. Though miracles aren’t necessarilya sign of sainthood, we should recognize a saint inthe making when we see one, because he maynever tell us.

Nor is the possession of mere magical abilitiesa sure gauge of attainment.

I remember one day when I was in highschool, it was announced that there was a mancoming to our town by the name of Marcus theMagician. And so, because my first name is Mark—Marcus on my birth certificate—I thought this wasvery thrilling. And so, just for fun, you know,I would make believe that I was a magician.

 And so he came to our high school. And oneof the most dramatic presentations he made wasto put a horse in a tent on the stage. A horse, mindyou! And then he put a young lady—not in hotpants, but in the closest thing to it—in a tent onthe other side of the stage.

 And then he took out a gun and he fired itinto the air, and in the midst of all the smoke andeverything suddenly the tent with the horse in itcollapsed and was just hanging by the rope. Thehorse was gone!

 And then across the stage, the other tentcollapsed. And then he fired the gun again and,lo and behold, this tent filled out with the lines of a horse. And he went over to the tent over hereand he unzipped it and out stepped the girl. Andthe horse came out of the other tent.

I never did figure out just how he did it. SoI can’t tell you. But it happened. And it should,perhaps, cause us to realize that there are illusionsin the world. We see them all the time on televi-sion and we see them at magic shows and we readabout them. But there is such a thing as truebilocation of identity.

 When people come to realize who they are,when they actually learn of the powers that areresident in man’s life, they are able to use thesepowers. But these powers are the very powers thata man ought not to be concerned with at all, be-cause after all the hoopla over psychic phenomena

dies down, they’re not really that important. What is important is the reunion, or rejoining

of oneself to God, because this world, your world,is intended to be a place of exquisite beauty—andexquisite beauty within—which can only be knownthrough the Divine Union.

 You know, some years ago there was a politi-cian, down in Louisiana I believe, who played theguitar as he stumped. His name was Jimmy Davis.

 Among other things, he wrote “You Are My Sun-shine,” which became his theme song in his cam-paign for governor. He knew the power of music,and he used it to win the election! You see,harmony as a gift of God is part of God’s nature andour own. And people, God bless ’em, are swayedmore by music than by high-sounding phrases.

Have any of you ever gone into a home wherea terrible happening occurred? It may have beena battle between a husband and wife. It may havebeen an unpleasant scene between a parent andchild—kids fighting. It could have been almostanything. And you came in right after it happened.

 And as you walked into the room—I’m suremost of you have had this experience—you sud-denly got a very depressed feeling. You didn’t knowexactly what had gone on in the room until later,but you felt it because, you see, circumstancesaffect things and negative vibrations can charge the

atmosphere with an uncomfortably sharp edge.I am referring to the vibrations—or “vibes,”

as they say—which are actually more or less anelectronic fluctuation of the atomic structure. Now,in a tape recorder, for example, what actually takesplace when we record sound is that magnetically

we are inducing a specific fluctuation of vibrationsupon our tape, whereupon we can with ease putthis tape through the gate—perhaps the flux gateof vibration—to run it through. And what happens? We can reproduce the same sound over again, asmany times as we wish.

The same thing takes place in a circularmanner on a phonograph record. If you couldenlarge the phonograph record—and you can—you would see that you have miniature groovesgoing around in what look like concentric circlesbut which actually form a single spiral from startto finish. These grooves are like roadbeds that riseand fall. They undulate. And the undulationrecords the vibration. So it is no strange thing tous to understand that substance is plastic, recordsvibration, and has a certain frequency response.

Let us understand this a little better, then.Substance itself—the very molecules—records vi-bration. The walls of a room, the seat of a bus oran airplane, train or boat, our clothing. If you gointo a tavern, for example, where foul language isused and you hang your coat there, it comes outnot only with the smell of smoke on it, but alsowith the vibrations of the place.

Now, vibration has a tendency to lessen. Wecall it the decay rate. You will find the same thinghappening to our tape recordings or to our phono-graph records. Our stylus eats up the road, and aftera while we discard our records. And the magnetismon our tape does not hold forever this frequency

that we have recorded there. Do you see? And so, there is a lessening response to vibra-

tional patterns. The overcoat that we have carriedinto a dingy room—where bawdy behavior is goingon and certain low vibrations are impinging (orbombarding) themselves upon the actual molecules

of our coat—has less and less of the odor ornegative vibration as time passes. Mama hangs itout on the clothesline in the sunshine, and thefresh air comes along—and after a while, it be-comes so lessened that we no longer feel the recordof these vibrations.

 You see, man does influence man by hisvibrations. Because vibrations are infectious—bothgood and bad vibrations. It’s easier to throw atomato up into the air and watch it come downthan it is to throw a tomato into the air andmake it stay there. We know according to thelaw of gravity that everything that goes up has tocome down.

It’s the same with vibrations—they rise andfall. And it is easier for vibrations to fall than itis for them to rise. In order to make them rise, or‘levitate’, we need something to make it happen.

Now, music is the most wonderful thing in

the universe to actually raise our spirits. Let a bandgo by and just watch how your heart begins to skipa beat! And then you get that feeling of exuberancewhen they begin to play “The Stars and StripesForever.”

Today we get on an elevator or go into a public

place and we hear the kind of music that wants topull apart our whole body—our whole atomicstructure. And because perhaps we grew up in thatvibration we are willing to accept it. We think it’sjust what we want, because it may affect our spinalcolumn at certain points (corresponding to our

chakras) in such a manner that it releases thelowest form of energy into our four lower bodiesand consciousness.

No, I’m not going to condemn it. I’m justtelling you about it. I’m telling you about the lawsof vibration, because everyone enters the veil of time through the gate of time and comes into ahostile world or environment that may or may notbe of their choosing. Do you see? It may not bethe environment that either God or man wants. Butit’s the situation as it is right now in our world.

The Fountain of Truth

So, we live in a confused world. There arepoor people all over the world, hungry people. Andthis has gone on for centuries. We have spirituallyhungry people who go to the fount of humanknowledge, hoping to drink of that fount, out of the cup, the chalice—and find nothing there.

 We should understand, then, that the foun-tain we want to drink of is the fountain of Truthwhose living waters will change our whole vision of life, until we are able to realize quite suddenly thatlife not only can be beautiful, but it is beautiful!

But why? And how? And where?

 Why is it beautiful? Because God made it so. Where is it beautiful? In God’s consciousness, andin man’s consciousness when he attunes with God’sconsciousness. Where and why is it beautiful? It’sbeautiful everywhere because the nature of Godis beautiful.

 Well, a young lady came up to me as I wasspeaking at the Unitarian church. And she said tome, “Who makes the Masters? Who makes theMasters the Masters?” And I answered her verysimply (because the Master gave me the answer).I said to her, “The Masters make the Masters—or you do!”

She said, “You mean I can become a Master?”I said, “Certainly! Because a Master is perfect.”

 And I said, “If you were God, would you createimperfectly?”

 And she said, “No.” And I said, “He didn’t.” And so God made everything perfect. Why is

it not perfect today?The whole answer is so simple that it almost

blows your mind. The reason that it is not perfecttoday is because of the dichotomy whereby manhas inside of himself the Divine Image side by side

with the human image. And he has free will. Heallows his energy that comes from his DivinePresence through the crystal cord, through hisHoly Christ Self, flowing down into his being, tobe diverted over to the human image. And he keepsright on building up that “wonderful ego”—which

I don’t advocate that you destroy, but you shouldunderstand how to harness it.

Our ego is a horse we ought to ride, and notbe ridden by. As it is now, it’s like the old story of the man who was crossing the bridge. He had a

donkey and he had a young son. And they wereboth leading the donkey along, and a man camealong and he said, “How very foolish! Why in theworld are you both walking when the donkey is wellable to carry you?”

 Well, the father thought he would try it him-self because he was older than the son. So he goton and the son led the donkey. And someone elsecame along and said, “You ought to be ashamedof yourself, riding that donkey like that. You shouldlet your son get on.”

So he put his son on the donkey. Then an-other man came along and he said, “Why, this isridiculous! That donkey is able to carry you both.”

So the father hopped on the donkey with hisson. And the three went across another bridge. Asthey were approaching the next bridge, a mancame along and he said, “You ought to be ashamedof yourselves. Both of you riding that poor donkey!

 Why don’t you carry the donkey?”So they whittled out a pole and made leather

thongs, and they laid the donkey on his back andfastened him to the pole and carried him upsidedown over the stream. And the thongs broke mid-stream and down he went, kersplash! And that was

the end of their donkey foolishness.Human opinions would drive us half crazy if 

we let ourselves be moved by them. Yet we neverunderstand the Truth because the Truth is so sim-ple. And that’s what’s wrong with the world today.

It’s a case where everybody recognizes something’swrong with the world, but nobody knows quite whator what to do about it.

 You and I recognize it. All of us—we recog-nize that. We know there’s something wrong withourselves. But there’s an awful lot right with our-selves, too. We have a tendency to hang on topersonal guilt and national guilt and criticism,condemnation, and judgment of each other.

Christ didn’t come into the world to condemnthe world. He came into the world to give us theabundant Life51 and to confer upon man the sensethat he is a native of eternity.

In our many Church Universal and Trium-phant community teaching centers and SummitLighthouse study groups throughout the world,chelas of the Ascended Masters are teaching moreand more people about the great laws of freedom. With the Lost Teachings of Jesus in hand, they are

cutting people free from hidebound tradition thatrobs man of his sense of worth and makes him feelworthless. He can’t accomplish anything as longas he doesn’t understand where he came from andwhere he’s going.

Of course, he came from God and he’s going

back to God, but there’s a lot of highway in betweenand many sidetracks and treacherous turnoffs thatgo the wrong way.

So the Brotherhood teaches you about whatyou’ll find on the highway of life, philosophies andreligious concepts and situation ethics you’ll be

confronted by. The Brotherhood shows that Goddid not just bring forth one Son—just one Son sentto embody the Christ Principle.

Now, you say, “Well, I already know that.”But you don’t quite understand the mission

of Jesus Christ. The man Jesus seems to you to bealso the Christ Jesus. And it is so. Jesus the Christ.The man Jesus internalized the Christ who was,before Abraham, the manifestation of the I AM.52

 And the lesson to be learned, which theBrotherhood will patiently teach you, is that themission of Jesus in becoming the Christ and in-ternalizing the I AM THAT I AM is also yourmission.

 You are supposed to be the Son in manifesta-tion all ways. Now do you understand your missionthrough Jesus’ Christ? To be like him and with himin the resurrection you need to put on his Christ-hood and wear it in Jesus’ name and honor as a

sacred garment.Did you ever hear about the young affluent

who came to Jesus to acquire the formula foreternal Life, calling him “Good Master”? And theMaster took great exception to this. He said, “Whycallest thou me good? There is none good but one,

and that is God.”53

 When we hear these sayings, we don’t quitedelve deeply enough into them to realize what theMaster was talking about. He was trying to showhim that goodness—any goodness that may bemanifesting in man—is in the allness of God rather

than in the individual person. Although it can besaid that it was resident in the individual, andindeed it was, it needed to be brought out andpolished and refined and made worthy by confor-mity to the Divine.

 When this is accomplished, man realizes thatthe good which does appear is God’s. And he giveshim the glory, as Jesus did. And the Good that isin one can therefore be in all because it’s the sameGod-Good. That’s why with God all things thatJesus did are possible unto you. The Master under-stood that man is a dual being. He is the DivineMonad up here [pointing to the I AM Presence andcausal body on the Chart of Your Divine Self.]*But down here [pointing to the figure standing inthe violet flame] man has a soul, he has a con-sciousness, and it’s all put together in a physicalbody.

 And what happens? People don’t identify with

the Divine Monad, so they say, “I’m that body.That’s me. Give me a ticket to Las Vegas, please!” You understand? I mean, they think when theycarry the physical person that they’re carryingeverything. And, of course, it seems to be so.

But why is it so? Because of that little tag-along

kite that comes behind us so beautifully—the con-sciousness. Why, we are more consciousness thananything else. We’re more energy. And we’re elec-tronic in nature, because the nature of God canbe discovered in the electron.*See Chart of Your Divine Self, page 329.

 And what do we see in this universe but a con-stant stream of electrons, protons, neutrons, andall kinds of atomic particles everywhere. And theybuild form. They build the molecules. They arethe building blocks of substance. You put it alltogether, but then if you lay it on the table inertand it is not energized by the Divine Presence—if energy doesn’t flow down through the being of man into his creation—you have a stillborn babe.

I remember when Sean Christopher was born.I was present at his birth. And when the child cameout—there he was, like a little white marble statue. And he was inert. And then the doctor spankedhim—one resounding crack. And as I watched, itlooked like the sun was coming up right near hisheart—a little roseate dawn of energy pulsingthrough this white marble form.

 And I thrilled as I saw that energy flow overhis body, energizing life and limb. And he began

to move and cry out. And I saw in that miracle of life the miracle of myself and of yourself and of everyone. This is the physical man.

 And then, of course, we later had the view of the placenta. Do you know what that means? Well,esoterically it means the place of entra—of entry.

The place where, you see, there enters a soul. And what does it look like, the placenta? The

placenta is discus-shaped (literally, “flat cake”) andit seems to have the rays of the sun coming out inthe tracings of the veins upon it. And so it is a mostwondrous manifestation. It is a vital part of the

chorion, the home of our little child for nine solidmonths, which is about the size of a basketball andyet filled with a living being. But this physicalbeing—how wondrous it is!—is not the Real Self.It is the place prepared for the soul’s journeythrough the physical plane.

The Doctrine of Reincarnation DeniedLet us understand, then, that man has come

into this world for the purposes of gaining soul-growth. For the teachings of reembodiment aremost magnificent, and they were taught by Jesus. And Saint Francis of Assisi taught them in thepublic square.54

Today our churches for the most part do notteach these things, although they are presentlybelieved by men and women who have followedthe lead of Benjamin Franklin, Louisa May Alcott,Leo Tolstoy, Empress Elisabeth of Austria, Thomas

Edison, Henry Ford, Arthur Conan Doyle, CharlesLindbergh, General George Patton and at least athird of the world’s population.

The reason for this is that in earlier councilsof the Church (when all of Christendom was solidi-fied under one head), many of the priests and

bishops and councils denounced the popular belief in reincarnation as heretical. At the instigation of Theodora, who supposedly influenced her hus-band, the Byzantine emperor Justinian, they even-tually anathematized Origen’s teachings on fallenangels, the nature of Christ, and the preexistence

—knowledge that providesthe essential foundation to a true perception ofthe spirit’s earthly journey through succeedingembodiments.

 And so, ever since the Fifth EcumenicalCouncil convened in Constantinople in 553, thedoctrine of reembodiment that was taught by Jesushas been for the most part either ignored or deniedby Christians. They do not understand the implica-tions of the law of karma taught by Jesus to theapostles and quoted by Paul to the Galatians—“Whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he alsoreap”56—and the inevitable conclusion that ourkarma carries over from lifetime to lifetime. Nor dothey realize that the mandate to be perfect and to beformed and re-formed in the image of Christ57 is notnecessarily accomplished, nor can it be, in one life.58

One of the most vehement deniers of reincar-nation is the Reverend Billy Graham, yet he him-

self took up in this life right where he left off inhis last life as a well-known evangelist preacher atthe turn of the century. And what he ought to belearning from his last life is that Christian doctrine,as he was taught it and as he preached it in thesame inimitable style he uses today, didn’t get him

to heaven last time and it isn’t going to get him toheaven this time either.

 And if he and the rest of the preachers whotell us Jesus died for our sins—and all we have todo is respond to the altar call, confess the Lord andwe’ll be saved—don’t wake up, they’re going to be

mouthing this false doctrine till the cows comehome. And no matter how many times and for howmany reincarnations they repeat it, all of theirpreaching does not nullify reembodiment nor doesit guarantee salvation to their hearers, who alsokeep coming back for the old bromide. And onewonders when they’re going to wake up and try thetrue Way of Jesus that’ll really get them to heavenso they won’t have to come back anymore!

One of the reasons why people continue tocarry on the way they do in their cults of pleasureand death is because they have no sense of responsi-bility for their actions. This is what happens themoment you remove the understanding of karmaand reincarnation from daily life. So their pas-tors don’t teach them about their accountabilitythrough this Law of Life, this law of cause andeffect. They teach them only about Jesus’ account-ability for their sins!

The Son of man came not into the world tocondemn the world; but that the world through himmight be saved.59 You see, the law of karma is nota law of condemnation but the very instrument of salvation. It isn’t that God wants to keep score onyou and then even up with you on the tally. The

real purpose of the recordings of akasha (whichpreserve the record of karma lifetime after lifetimeof every soul) and of the record keeping of therecording angels who serve under the Keeper of theScrolls is so that God can grant you the victory.60

 As the vibrational patterns in your life become

the same as the vibrational patterns of the saints—and this is one of the best ways I know of makinggood karma to balance the bad at an acceleratedpace—you, too, shall discover that God has alreadyordained your ascension out of this mortal socket.This will be quite clear to all of us when we shallhave “shuffled off this mortal coil”61 for the last timein the last round of rebirth.

God doesn’t even want to punish you whenyour vibrational patterns are not like those of thesaints. In fact, punishment is no part of the Mindof God. It is man who punishes himself by hisfailure to abide harmoniously within the frameworkof Cosmic Law. The law of karma embraces boththe science and the mathematics of material life.Obey its rules to the letter and the spirit and youcan literally lead a charmed life.

No, God is not the punisher of mortals; theypunish themselves every day by their ignorance of 

the Great Law and their violations of its golden ratioof Love, the fulcrum of balance in all inter-changes—human and divine. Through the law of karma God wants you to learn by the fruits you har-vest from your own Tree of Life just what is thesweet and what is the bitter you have sown. And

self-correct.In reality, you see, a man’s life is like the

seasons. He plants his thoughts and feelings in thespringtime, along with words and deeds, and theyreturn to him in the fall. And winter is for contem-plation of last year’s effort, a time for planning next

year’s increase. And summer shows how everysowing is ripening, so that after a while the reapercan himself predict just what kind of a crop willcome in.

I read a report recently of a man who had diedand then come back to life. The man said that lifewas so marvelous on the other side that he didn’twant to come back! He told of some of his experi-ences. And he mentioned the fact that all his lifehe had dreaded death as the most terrifying thingthat could happen to him.

So the mercy of the Law granted him theexperience of death in order to strip him of his fear,that he might lead a productive life and hopefullyfulfill his reason for being without death’s fearfulshroud upon him. But this, too, is an example of reincarnation the Lord’s way. Did his soul not leavethe body (which was pronounced dead) for a jour-ney to paradise and back again, whereupon he re-

entered, or re-embodied?This shows that the good Lord can do what-

ever he wants to with our souls. If he can cause usto come and go in this manner, what’s the differ-ence if the body the soul returns to from such anexcursion through life and death and back again

happens to be that of a newborn babe? And if itcan happen once, why, it could happen as manytimes as the Lord would so choose, couldn’t it?

So we ought to study and learn the ramifica-tions that apply to ourselves from such extraordi-nary experiences of our brothers and sisters on the

path of Life. For God would teach us through oneanother and we should not expect that for everyprecept desired, the Great Lawgiver is going tocome with the fanfare of archangels to our frontdoor. We should be humble before all demonstra-tions of the science of Being observed by fellowalchemists of the Spirit experimenting in the tem-ples of Matter.

Reincarnation until the Final Judgment

Just as some people are afraid of death, I sup-pose that souls might also shudder a bit at the ideaof birth because they know they’re coming into aworld of confinement and misery and all kinds of situations in which people in their egotism willwork out their ego problems on each other andmake it difficult for one another.

 You know the old story of poor little Arthur atRugby, where he kneeled down to pray by his bed

as his mother had always taught him to—and someof the boys laughed and sneered at him. Andfinally one bully threw a slipper at him.62

 Well, that’s the way the world is—becausethey don’t understand that what counts is wherewe are on the ladder of life. We have a ladder. Jacob

dreamed and he saw a ladder reaching up to heavenand the angels of God ascending and descendingon it.63

So people are born and they create karma.This means we sow our seed. And some of the seedswe sow are good, and some of the seeds are bad.

 And whatever we sow, that we’ll reap. And if wedon’t get it back all in one lifetime, it comes backin the next. And this is what determines yourposition on the ladder of life.

 Why, it’s just not possible to achieve equalityin this world of accidents and problems, is it? Wecouldn’t achieve equality of life experiences if oneof us lived to be 10 years old, another to be 30,another to be 50, another to be 75, and some tobe 90 or 110, could we now? That isn’t equality.

 You see, people keep coming back for thou-sands and thousands of years. They keep embody-ing until their “time is up,” until their cycle ofopportunity to choose who and what they will beis fully spent.

Most of you in this room have been on thisplanet at least twelve thousand years. And this istrue. Some of you many more aeons than that. Be-cause, you see, the purpose of our coming to earth

is to graduate from the planetary schoolroom andeventually to enter one of the Father’s many man-sions of dominion. That’s where we go when wehave taken dominion and power over the elementsof our life and are no longer some kind of a puppeton a string—we might say, the monkey of Darwin’s

evolution dangling on a string. And we can conceive of the supposition that

we are descended from apes! Well, I will admit thatsometimes we may act that way, but personallyI can’t conceive of the good Lord doing it.

 And so, we are given the gift of eternal Life—

unless we lose our soul. Oh yes—this can happen.In the “second death” man can lose his soul.The first death is the death of the ego; and if 

this take place by free will, the soul is resurrectedin Christ. On such an one the second death,64 thetermination of the id-entity, hath no power. Butwhen the soul allows the ego to take it over—body,mind, heart, and consciousness—it devours thesoul like a cancer, melding itself to it until it isno longer possible to separate the soul from thedweller of its own creation.65 It chose and has cho-sen at the Y on the Path and at steps and stagessubsequently (while it still had opportunity torecant its position of idolatry to the almighty self )to glorify that dweller instead of Almighty God.

By the time the soul stands before the judg-ment seat, it is already self-consumed. It is pro-nounced spiritually “terminal,” for by no means of cosmic surgery can the soul and her freewill elec-

tion and predilection be reversed: the twain havebecome one ‘flesh’ and mentality, one entity whoseLight has been turned entirely to Darkness. Andthe central sun of being that once shone with theglory of First Love is but a self-consuming blackhole in space whose time is no more. And the final

judgment and the second death are the ratificationby heaven’s law of that which the soul herself hasalready decreed for herself by free will.

This, then, is the full and complete cancelingout of identity. All that ever was of the individual—cause, effect, record and memory of both the soul

and its creations, including the dweller-on-the-threshold—is dissolved in the white fire of Alphaand Omega, self-canceled by its own denial of Being in God.

It is of supreme importance that the individualon the Path understand that he is making dailychoices for Life or Death in the ultimate and finalsense. For so many are throwing away their Lifewith abandon and the fool’s folly of carelessnessor dare-devilishness as though no matter what theydid or did not do, somehow they would be pre-served in perpetuity.

This happy-ending psychology is as perniciousa lie as you’ll ever find spawned by the agents of Death and Hell. And it is hotly defended by meta-physicians and new-age leaders. But I’m sorry tosay that all of their protestations will never cancelthe law of the final judgment and the second death.

But the real damnation is not the final judg-

ment. The real damnation is the damnable doctrineof the false pastors’ denial of karmic accountabilityand opportunity for the rebirth of the soul daily andthrough reincarnation—the mercy already pro-vided for the soul to justify herself through the Word and Work of her LORD before the Judgment

Day—the Day of no return.Thus, one can see that the final judgment and

second death are divine decrees uttered by theChrist by way of upholding the right of choicebestowed on every individual: To be or not to be.

So, then, we come back to the scene, following

our Lord’s transfiguration, of Jesus with Peter,James, and John as they came down the mountain.They were talking about John the Baptist becausethe disciples had just seen the vision of the Ascended Masters Moses and Elias* talking withJesus, and one of them asked why the scribes weresaying that “Elias must first come.”

“When’s he going to come back again? When’she going to be reborn on this earth?” And Jesus said,“He’s already come. He’s already been born. Butthey didn’t know who he was and they did to himwhatever they wanted to, and they will do the sameto me!” And it says, “Then the disciples understoodthat he spake unto them of John the Baptist.”66

That is one record they missed when the oldpriests began tearing out of the Bible some of thereferences to reincarnation.

Do you remember the time they asked him thisquestion: “Who did sin, this man or his parents,

that he was born blind?” Well, don’t you see howthat very question proves that the knowledge ofand belief in reincarnation was common, not onlyamong the people, but with Jesus and his disciples?

“Who did sin, this man or his parents?” Well,how could he have sinned and been born blind as

a consequence of his sin unless he had sinned ina previous life? And yet the question the disciplesasked of Jesus was a legitimate question: Was hisblindness karmic or hereditary? They didn’t doubtthat he could have sinned in a past life, nor did

Jesus; they just wanted to know the cause—pastsins or a congenital birth defect caused by hisparents’ genes.

 When you come to think of it, if Jesus hadwanted to set the record straight for all time onreincarnation, it was an opportune moment topublicly rebuke his disciples for their obvious belief in reembodiment. But the Master did not. He an-swered them instead with a still more astonishingTruth that defied the laws of cause and effectoutplayed in both reincarnation and genetics.

He said, “It was for the glory of God!”The World Teacher said, “Neither hath this

man sinned, nor his parents, but he was bornblind that the works of God might be made mani-fest in him.”67

So, you see, there are many answers to manyquestions. We do not have a simple, little standpatanswer. And you aren’t going to get from me—

although I’d gladly give it to you if I could—all theanswers to your hidden questions. You know why?I’ll tell you why.

First of all, some of the answers you wouldn’tunderstand, even if I told you. And that’s not anegotistic statement, because it wouldn’t matter

whether I was here or who was here—you stillwouldn’t understand. You cannot explain every-thing in words. Some things can only be experi-enced—number one. Two, most people have amess of preconceived notions about everything andthey don’t let go of all those ideas all at once with

the snap of your fingers, even if they want to.I remember in my own experience when thedoctrine of reembodiment was first proposed tome—the idea that I had lived before. Why, this wascontrary to the Methodist church, and I was borna Methodist. So right away I said to myself, “Poppy-cock! Nonsense!” I said to myself, “Why, this isn’teven scriptural.” And I didn’t understand what thepowers that be of this world had done to the Bible.

 You’ve got some preachers here in Americatoday, and do you know what they’ll tell you?They’ll tell you that God has put a ray on the Bibleand that ray is so powerful that nobody can everchange the Bible.

Ridiculous! This is the most ridiculous ideathat has ever been postulated! They have changedthe Bible in my own lifetime about twenty times,and they’re coming out with new editions rightnow. So they’ve changed the Bible, and they’ve

changed it over and over again. And in the process,they’ve left out all kinds of truths from it.

The Law of Self-Transcendence

I remember one time in a talk I had withJesus, we were discussing this statement: “No man

can see God and live.”68 I said, “Jesus, this is astatement that seems to close the door—that if aman gets enough spiritual development where hesees God, then he dies.”

Jesus said, “That is not the complete state-ment.” He said, “Shall I give it to you?”

I said, “Please do.” And he went into the akashic records and hebrought out from them something that tingled myspine—and I think it’ll tingle yours. He said, “Noman can see God and live as man.” And he toldme that that is what it originally said.

I’ll explain it. No man can see God and liveany longer as man because, you see, once you seeGod you’re no longer going to be satisfied withthe lesser image. You’re not satisfied with your wayof life.

 And that’s exactly what happened to Saul of Tarsus—once he saw Jesus. He could no longer liveas the persecutor of Christians; through his visionof the LORD, he became the mightiest apostle. And yet he said, I die daily.69  With each newperception of Christ, something less Christlike inhim died daily. In partnership with God, hisDivine Image working alchemically within you,

you can never really be satisfied with yesterday’sversion of yourself. And this is a very healthy stateof self-dissatisfaction.

Because the Law of Life involves the law of self-transcendence, and this is one of the greatestmysteries Jesus has taught us. It is the real key to the

kingdom. It simply means that by that coiled springof the creative force within us each day, spirituallyspeaking and in every way, we all have the innatedesire to go beyond the measure of yesterday’sawareness and achievements.

The key is that through the sacred fire we can

self-transcend. We can surmount. We can press theouter limits of our human habitation. We can gobeyond ourselves and actually live here and nowon earth in our higher selves.

Because self-transcendence is the Law of Life:That which ceases to grow—i.e., to self-transcend—ceases to be. As a matter of fact, in order to liveand to retain the quickening of the Spirit, we haveto self-transcend. Life moves on and so must we.(And this gets us to the heart of Jesus’ teaching ontranscendentalism.)

The problem is people have forgotten how toself-transcend. So they stagnate and they die longbefore they’re pronounced dead. But the instruc-tion of the Ascended Masters, bringing to the foreof our memory the Lost Teachings of Jesus, showsus how to transcend our former state by manyspiritual, health and yogic techniques.

Furthermore, you need to know that socio-

economic systems which run counter to this law of the Creative/Re-creative Self breed in their peoplethe stench of nonproductivity and decay. For toself-transcend is to create; and that which ceasesto create also ceases to be.

Therefore, those nations which afford their

citizens the greatest economic and spiritual freedomto be self-governed will be the most dynamic—hence, the most powerful; whereas those nationswhose socialistic systems run counter to Life’s self-renewing stream fail to tap the limitless flow of thecrystal cord as each individual tree of life gives of

his lifestream to the expansion of all. Apart from its early golden ages, earth’s his-tory has been bowed down with a stifling eco-nomic totalitarianism run by pagan gods. In thefounding of the United States of America, SaintGermain and those working with him determinedto break that stranglehold.

 And they purposed to replace the old order of the gods with true God-government—where thegovernment is squarely upon the shoulders of theHoly Christ Self of every citizen—and with aneconomy based on the golden rule and the goldstandard and the principle of the abundant Life(opportunity for all through the Word and Work of the LORD), and also with the Holy Spirit directingthe free creativity of the people in religion andeducation, science and the arts.

the old gods reborn are often the new stars of screen and stage, the nouveau riche or royalty orthe old guard on Wall Street, aristocracies andjet sets or the power elite who gather in secretsocieties like the Order or covens like the Bohe-mian Grove—one and all ever worshiped by the

masses.Some strands of paganism have their roots in

the worship of the gods, the space people, calledNephilim because they fell (landed? in rocketships?) or were cast out of heaven by ArchangelMichael.70 The records of their religion of pagan

sacrifice, with themselves upheld as the idols of thepeople, are sprinkled throughout the Old Testa-ment.71 This is what the Hebrew patriarchs like Abraham and the prophets came to cast down.Even John the Baptist wrestled with them. Bothhe and Jesus told them off.

 Why, can any of you really imagine in yourheart that God compares to some of the pagan godsand their pagan concepts of absolute tyranny andappeasement (not forgiveness) through human (notdivine) sacrifice? Where you have to take a beauti-ful young maiden and perch her on the edge of afiery volcano and cast her down to her death inorder to appease the wrath of the Nephilim gods?

Do you have a God like this? Why, theoriginal teachings of God did not provide that kindof a concept for the propitiation of tribal sin.

Elizabeth hasn’t remembered this yet, but theMaster showed me that she was once hurled into

a bottomless pit of blackness by pagan priests inCentral America. It was a pond as still and deep asnight into which virgins were sacrificed to satisfythe Nephilim gods. If it weren’t for reincarnation,such a fate would be life’s ultimate tragedy.

of the Black Raven returns to roost; and yesterday’senemies are preying in yonder pew, watching youwhile you pray. (And I pray you’ll remember mywords when you need them most.)

 Atonement and Self-Transcendence by Rebirth

 After the fall from grace—the descent from theetheric octave (paradise) through disobedience—the LORD God provided the means for atonementunto those who, by their own willfulness, hadsubjected themselves to the law of mortality, thelaw of death.

 And do you know what his solution was?God’s solution to the conundrum of sin and

mortality was reincarnation! And through it hegranted renewed opportunity for souls to demon-strate the law of self-transcendence!

 You see, the old law states that the penalty forsin is spiritual death. It is written, “The soul

that sinneth, it shall die.”72 When applied to thehuman condition, this means that the soul thatsinneth shall die in her sin—shall pass from thescreen of human life still wearing the garment (theaura and the karmic record) of sin and receivethe final judgment therefor.

But the Mediator between Perfect God andimperfect man, the Universal Christ, said:

“Not so, LORD. May it be that the soul shalllive again, to learn again, to be tutored of me, thatI, the Beloved, might turn that one again to Thee.Let there be established, LORD, the median ground

between eternal Life and that eternal damnationwhich is reserved only for the Devil and his fallenangels.73 Let earth be the place where Thy souls(the Light-emanations of Thy immortal Selfhood)return to meet Thee again, face to face in oneanother. Let them learn to love again and to extendmercy to Life as Thou doest extend mercy to them.”

Thus the Great Law illustrates the suprememercy of God’s grace as well as the advocacy of the eternal Christ.

Indeed, reincarnation is the means to work outa karma that cannot be otherwise balanced—akarmic debt that in order to be “paid in full”requires greater longevity than the bounds of man’shabitation and his threescore and ten afford himin a single lifetime—a karmic infraction of theGreat Law that decrees the death of the soul onthe Judgment Day unless it be erased by the holyangels from the Book of Life.

Surely this royal road to salvation, this oppor-tunity for the soul’s reincarnation, granted by I AMTHAT I AM, is the grace of Christ’s own inter-cessory power—the all-power of heaven and earthwhich the Father has given him74—by which weare saved.

 Why, reincarnation was not necessary in par-adise when our souls were sinless and without guileand sometimes a single 800-year or a 1,000-yearembodiment was sufficient for twin flames to provethe Law of Spirit in the Matter cosmos and ascendto God—thence to go on expanding Spirit’s worlds

with the immortals, moving in the trackless realmsof Infinity.By disobedience to Nature’s law of harmony,

mankind have sinfully destroyed their bodies timeand time again; they have squandered the sacredfire in discord, deceit, and degenerate living; theyhave consumed the Light of Elohim* upon theirlusts; they have failed to balance their karma, keeptheir lamps trimmed, or weave their wedding gar-ment (the deathless solar body)75—thus abortingtheir avowed purpose and reason for being: toascend to God by a conscious and freewill masteryof self and circumstance and a loving submissionand submergence in Christ.

 And so, by dispensation of the Logos the wordwent forth: Henceforth the merciful alternative tohumanity’s self-induced and addictive nihilismshall be the path of re-creation in Christ. This shallbe accomplished through the soul’s reembodiment,

an opportunity (grace) granted in order that shemight study and apply the lessons of her karma—the fruit of action—in earth’s schoolroom.

The compassionate purpose of reincarnationis to postpone the soul’s Day of Karmic Reckoning(Isaiah calls it the Day of Vengeance of Our God76)

and to prolong the option for responsible choice bythe sons and daughters of God—the choice toaccept personal accountability for every thought/ feeling, word and deed, and for the purification of

the desires of the heart; hence, to accept personalaccountability for one’s immortality in Christ.By the intercession of Christ, mankind return

to the scene of their desire and their suffering, theirsinful sense and their karma where Christ wouldteach them the way back Home through his all-consuming Love. A Love sufficient for the burn-ing of every sin forsaken, every record brought todivine resolution, every prideful act that now bendsthe knee in penitent love, every sense of injusticethat surrenders to the personal accountability of the Law who is Christ, the Logos evermore.

Saint Paul points to the karmic choices thenand now: “to be carnally minded is death; but to bespiritually minded is life and peace.”77 From Jesushe knew the law of reincarnation and karma andthe ultimate consequences of the misuse of freewill. He saw man moving from cause to effect,from choice to consequence. He himself fulfilled

the law of accountability in his next incarnationas Saint Hilarion, who was born near modern-dayGaza over two hundred years after Paul’s death.

Hilarion, like Paul, was a convert to Christi-anity. When he was just fifteen, he gave upyouthful pleasures to devote his days to prayer and

fasting in a tiny hut in the wilderness, living onfifteen figs a day for six years. During the long lifeGod gave him, he performed many miracles andfinished the work (karma) God gave him to do, andat its conclusion he made his ascension from innerlevels. Thus, today the apostle Paul is known and

loved as the Ascended Master Hilarion.78

55. Origen and his teachings anathematized at the instiga-tion of Justinian and Theodora: In his zeal to restore theRoman Empire (now called the Byzantine Empire) to itsformer estate and bring unity to its Church, Justinian I(483–565) desired to rid his realm of any belief or teaching

that was not orthodox. For some “heretics” and pagans thisresulted in the death penalty, for others persecution andconfiscation of property or the closing of schools ofphilosophy. One unorthodox movement, which was be-coming popular in the monasteries of Palestine, was apantheistic mysticism that based itself on a form ofOrigenism. After receiving complaints about these Origen-

ists, Justinian issued a long edict denouncing Origen asa heretic and convened a local synod in Constantinoplein 543 to anathematize (“curse”) certain of his teachings.Especially troublesome were Origen’s teachings on thepreexistence of souls and the preexistence of the soul of Jesus, which did not support the current trend in the stillformulative Christian doctrine.

One of the major doctrinal problems that had

caused a growing breach between the Eastern and West-ern Church was the centuries-long controversy over therelationship of the human and divine natures in Christ.(See Lost Teachings on Your Higher Self  [in The LostTeachings of Jesus series], pp. 257–62.) During Justinian’sreign, this controversy centered around Monophysitism,a doctrine with strong support in the eastern provinceswhich contended that Jesus’ nature was wholly divine

even though he had taken on a human body. In this asin all matters concerning the Church, Justinian took theleading role. The emperor himself was a supporter ofthe orthodox view accepted at the Council of Chalcedonin 451 that the divine and human natures coexisted inChrist. But his empress, Theodora, was a champion of the Monophysites. Some claim it was under her influ-ence that Justinian tried to bring about an agreement

between the two factions.In an effort to appease the more moderate Mono-physites, Justinian decided to follow a policy that affirmedthe two natures of Christ but subordinated the human ele-ment to the divine. To this end, he issued his own edict in544 condemning three groups of writings that he chargedwere tainted with Nestorianism—a doctrine which heldthat the human and divine persons were separate in the

incarnate Christ and which had been declared hereticalby the Church. His measure provoked an outcry frombishops in the West, who viewed the emperor’s action asa repudiation of Chalcedon and an endorsement of theMonophysites. The ensuing conflict, known as the ThreeChapters controversy, eventually caused Justinian to sum-mon the entire Church to the Fifth Ecumenical Council

(also called the Second Council of Constantinople) in 553.The council confirmed the imperial edict of 544 as wellas Justinian’s anathemas against Origen and his writings.

 Almost all the bishops in attendance represented theEastern Church, however, and Pope Vigilius refused toattend. In fact, the legitimacy of the anathemas againstOrigen is still debated by scholars today because there areno records documenting papal approval of the condemna-

tions. Furthermore, the council was not successful in meet-ing Justinian’s goal of uniting the Church, which remainedbitterly divided for more than a century. The reason we can call to God and he willanswer is because we are connected to him. Weare his sons and daughters. We have a directrelationship to God and he has placed a portionof himself in us. In order to better understand thisrelationship, the ascended masters have designedthe Chart of Your Divine Self.

The Chart of Your Divine Self is a portraitof you and of the God within you. It is a diagramof yourself and your potential to become who you really are. It is an outline of your spiritualanatomy.

The upper figure is your “I AM Presence,”the Presence of God that is individualized in eachone of us. It is your personalized “I AM THATI AM.” Your I AM Presence is surrounded byseven concentric spheres of spiritual energy thatmake up what is called your “causal body.” Thespheres of pulsating energy contain the record of 

the good works you have performed since your very first incarnation on Earth. They are like your cosmic bank account.

The middle figure in the Chart represents the“Holy Christ Self,” who is also called the Higher Self. You can think of your Holy Christ Self as

 your chief guardian angel and dearest friend, your inner teacher and voice of conscience. Just asthe I AM Presence is the presence of God that isindividualized for each of us, so the Holy ChristSelf is the presence of the universal Christ that isindividualized for each of us.

“The Christ” is actually a title given to thosewho have attained oneness with their Higher Self,or Christ Self. That’s why Jesus was called “Jesus,the Christ.” Christ comes from the Greek wordchristos, meaning “anointed”—anointed with thelight of God.

What the Chart shows is that each of us hasa Higher Self, or “inner Christ,” and that each of us is destined to become one with that Higher Self—whether we call it the Christ, the Buddha,the Tao or the Atman. This “inner Christ” iswhat the Christian mystics sometimes refer to asthe “inner man of the heart,” and what theUpanishads mysteriously describe as a beingthe “size of a thumb” who “dwells deep withinthe heart.”

We all have moments when we feel thatconnection with our Higher Self—when we arecreative, loving, joyful. But there are other

moments when we feel out of sync with our Higher Self—moments when we become angry,depressed, lost. What the spiritual path is allabout is learning to sustain the connection to thehigher part of ourselves so that we can make our  greatest contribution to humanity.

The ribbon of white light descending fromthe I AM Presence through the Holy Christ Self to the lower figure in the Chart is the crystalcord (sometimes called the silver cord). It is the“umbilical cord,” the lifeline, that ties you toSpirit.

Your crystal cord also nourishes that special,radiant flame of God that is ensconced in thesecret chamber of your heart. It is called the three- fold flame, or divine spark, because it is literally aspark of sacred fire that God has transmitted fromhis heart to yours. This flame is called “threefold”because it engenders the primary attributes of Spirit—power, wisdom and love.

The mystics of the world's religions havecontacted the divine spark, describing it as theseed of divinity within. Buddhists, for instance,speak of the “germ of Buddhahood” that exists inevery living being. In the Hindu tradition, theKatha Upanishad speaks of the “light of theSpirit” that is concealed in the “secret high placeof the heart” of all beings.

Likewise, the fourteenth-century Christiantheologian and mystic Meister Eckhart teachesof the divine spark when he says, “God’s seed is

within us.” There is a part of us, says Eckhart,that “remains eternally in the Spirit and isdivine. . . . Here God glows and flames withoutceasing.”

When we decree, we meditate on the flamein the secret chamber of our heart. This secret

chamber is your own private meditation room, your interior castle, as Teresa of Avila called it.In Hindu tradition, the devotee visualizes ajeweled island in his heart. There he sees himself before a beautiful altar, where he worships histeacher in deep meditation.
