Background Information• Available from 19th July 1944• Last used March 1945• After the war used for document

storage and accommodation • Restored 2012 • One of a network of deep shelters

across London• Constructed 1940s • Designed as two parallel tubes of 16

foot inches internal diameter and 1,600 feet long

• Two decks with bunks, medical posts, kitchens and sanitary facilities

• Held 9,600 people
