Hamburger Mary's in Kansas has a different look than the usual bar and restaurant. They conduct Bingo charity events, hosted by Drag Queens.

Hamburger Mary's is a small franchise with 13 establishments, out of which12 are in the United States. One requirement of every franchise is it must host charity Bingo. All of the money stays local, from animal rescue organisations to the American Cancer Society, and it has become so popular among not-for-profit organisations, they are booked until early 2014. Drag Queens host the events and make sure they entertain their customers.

A little out-of-the box charity and some entertainment can go a long way in helping the society and reviving a game like Bingo. This also shows the growing charitable aspect that Bingo portrays.

The Hulman Memorial Student Union Board at Indiana State University sponsored the Move-In Bingo event, targeting new students or those who have just moved back to campus.

During the event, the board also provided prizes for winning students. The prizes included many back to school items such as notebooks, binders and folders. There were also entertainment choices such as DVDs, popcorn and other snacks. The grand prize was a gift card to Wal-Mart.

The event not only introduced students to a game like Bingo but also showed them a modern take on what’s seen as an old people’s game. It also entertained them and brought them together as a community.

Launching in August 2013, online Bingo website Bingo Godz promises a more personalised and unique experience to its customers.

For starters, there's no same old networked bingo lobby, but instead a player hub consisting of different themed bingo rooms to unlock is what is there. The opening deposit bonus at Bingo Godz is a 150% cash match bonus up to £150.

This means that the uniqueness of Bingo Godz should attract people in its own right rather than just the deposit bonus. The site also provides one-on-one attention from its managers, giving way to a personalised experience. This is also the first time that someone has tried to merge pay-to-play bingo with the social bingo model.

BC Casinos now offer a smooth and electronic Bingo experience

BC Casinos in Canada have launched a new facility that keeps them ahead of the curve in terms of technology at Bingo halls – electronic bingo machines.

Instead of purchasing and daubing numbers on paper, electronic players buy a Receipt slip from the cashier, log onto electronic bingo terminals, purchase their cards on the terminal and 'daub' cards on a touch screen. This feature will automatically scan the player's bingo cards to check if the player has the number and daub all the cards with that number. If the player did not daub his cards on previous calls, all undaubed numbers will be daubed automatically the next time the 'Easy Daub' button is selected. If a card has a winning Bingo, the player still needs to daub the winning bingo card in order to register the win with the caller. Daubing the card will ensure that the caller knows there is a 'Bingo' and stops the game.

This helps them to be environmentally aware and shows their customers that they are tech-savvy. In the customer’s point of view, this technology will also help them from missing out on a potential win. Could this be where all Bingo halls are headed?

The popular Prohibition night is being revived in magnificent fashion in the splendid surroundings of a secret London location by a group that organises these secretive events.

Priced at £20, guests can sip their bootlegged gin from tea cups, listen to gramophone DJs, silent cinema, indulge in a spot of gambling and watch the showgirls do the Charleston. Guests are handed ‘money’ on arrival that they can use for the gambling events. Dress codes are mandatory for both men and women and the venue of the event is kept as a secret and revealed only two days before via post, which is how the tickets arrive.

The events have proved to be popular – tickets are sold out within minutes of events being announced. Their marketing is done online via Facebook and Twitter which is perfect for the younger audience they target.

To play, Facebook users must connect their bank account with the game and pay an entry fee. Controls will prevent anyone aged under 18 from gambling on Bingo Friendzy. When a user signs up to Bingo Friendzy, they are asked to enter their personal details and confirm their date of birth. They are then asked to enter bank account details and make a deposit of between £10 and £500 to begin playing.

Digitisation of this on a popular social media platform, this will attract a different demographic altogether, one that is younger and tech-savvy.

A sum of $5 is charged for 10 games of Bingo and they let you carry your own alcohol and food despite having a bar indoors. The jackpots rage from $100 to $600. The Bingo nights go on from Monday to Thursday and despite the boom in the number of youngsters, it has not turned off their customers who are in an older age bracket. The popularity of these nights speaks for itself as they have a capacity of about 750 people and hit the limit on a daily basis.

What group of young people wouldn’t want to get together and share their own wine and liquor while given the chance to win money? Looks like the SPJST Lodge have found a winning combination!

A weekly poker night held every Tuesday at The Underdog in Clapham, South London has been gaining popularity. Termed Bogan Bingo, the night markets itself as a ‘rough and ready’ Bingo night that everyone can enjoy.

The night consists of two games of Bingo, drinks specials, prizes and a rowdy air guitar competition with no entry fee. One Bingo caller shouts out the number and the DJ plays songs from the 80s and 90s that rhyme with the numbers. The crowd eventually become the stars of the show.

A great way to unwind mid-week after a long day of work, this night is proving to be popular among all age-groups. It is evident that most people go for the entertainment and experience it provides and not just for their love of Bingo. It has also been launched by the organisers in Australia.

Rank Group is taking Bingo upmarket with the introduction of waiters serving food, drink and champagne.

The first Club to witness the waiter service is Beeston’s Mecca Bingo Club in the Nottingham area. They offer electronic Bingo, a bar service and also have a restaurant that serves freshly-prepared food on demand. Besides these new facilities, they are also offering package deals on not just Bingo but also food and drink. They have very recently introduced an ‘After Dark’ session which provides the customers with an atmosphere that resembles a nightclub. Open daily, they have themed nights on Tuesdays and Thursdays, ranging from karaoke to film.

This strategic move from the Rank Group is part of a push to broaden the appeal of Bingo to a younger audience, especially since their venues are based in towns with a large student population. The waiter service has been introduced to retain the interest of existing members. Could this be the solution to the problems that Bingo halls have been facing in the UK over recent years?

The events happen monthly at two locations in London and sell out quickly. Due to its success, the event is now poised to be taken abroad .

Monday night Bingo is now held at Madam ZuZu’s, a cozy little teashop in the suburbs of Chicago. It isn’t any ordinary place – the have a celebrity hosting the event every Monday.

Owned by the lead singer of the popular band Smashing Pumpkins, Billy Corgan ensures that he gets a different celebrity to host the event every month. The venue also provides food and drink in handmade, artistic cutlery and Bingo tools that consist of bright, fluorescent paper and kiddie stamps to mark their numbers. The Bingo nights now see an audience between the ages of 19 and 33. The Smashing Pumpkins also play a set after the game – bringing their fans into the venue.

This shows that there is a resurgence in the popularity of Bingo amongst the youth and the presence of a celebrity led event only helps it gather momentum. Perhaps, this is a way to keep all parties interested in the game.

Rebel Bingo is a concept founded by two avid bingo fans a few months ago. These nights promise to offer something different. After growing in popularity in the UK, they have now started to take the show abroad to Spain, Portugal, Brazil and North America.

The bingo nights bear uncanny resemblance to the underground rave scene of the 1980s and the parties in the 1920s Prohibition Era. Players have to register prior to the night and the venue is only revealed a few hours ago. They are also under strict restrictions to not reveal that they are going to the event. Once they are through the doors, they are given a unique experience – one that has live music, a carnival vibe, delicious cocktails and disco balls.

The secrecy and uniqueness add to its appeal and is a hit with the youngsters – who are discovering just how much fun Bingo can be. This provides a different Bingo experience altogether.

The gaming group is trialling the idea at its latest venue in Reading. Playing bingo electronically on portable tablet devices, similar to iPads, requires less concentration and allows players to eat, drink and chat while playing. Players can tap on the screens when their numbers come up but there is also a function to catch up if they have missed a few calls.

This move by Rank Group merges the method of playing Bingo online into the social and communal setting that Bingo halls offer – making both meet halfway.
