The New Year has begun and is off to a great start for LWEA. We have so many exciting events going on from luncheons to confer-ences. This year, we are again participating in the Louisiana Conference on Water Supply, Sewerage, and Industrial Wastes (Louisiana Conference) as well as the Louisiana Solid Waste Association (LSWA) Environmental Conference.

The Louisiana Conference, which will host the Operations Challenge, will be held from Monday, March 14, 2016 to Thursday, March 17, 2016 and will be at the Hilton Hotel and Shreveport Convention Center. LWEA will have technical sessions on Tues-day and Wednesday.

An updated schedule of events can be found at www.louisianaconference.org. The LSWA Environmental Conference will be held at the Cajun Dome Convention Center in Lafayette from Wednesday, March 16, 2016 to Friday, March 18, 2016. We will also be hosting the annual golf tournament at this conference on March 16th.

For more information, visit www.lswa.us.

In addition to the conferences and luncheons, we are also in the process of collecting scholarship applications. Our scholarship program was established to assist individuals who are working toward a degree in the environmental industry with tuition, fees, and/or supplies.

Additional information about the application process can be found at www.thelwea.com.

With all of these activities going on, we are always looking for more volunteers to help. If conferences and luncheons aren’t for you, we have many other opportunities to be active within LWEA from participating in Earth Day, presentations at local elementary schools, or even judging science fairs. We are always looking for volunteers and are open to new ideas on how to better serve our community. And don’t forget to register for the next LWEA Luncheon on February 11th. I look forward to seeing you there.
