The Christian Value of love Sometimes it is hard to show love – especially towards those with whom we are in conflict. That person may be a loved one, a neighbour, a faceless voice on the other end of the phone, a stranger on social media, or another parent on the playground. Although it is hard, these are the people who God wants us to show the most love to. Take courage. In our anger and frustration, let us turn to love instead of hate as the devil would tempt us.

Ten ways to love – even when you don’t feel very loving: 1. Listen, without interrupting. (Proverbs 18)

2. Speak, without accusing. (James 1:19)

3. Give, without sparing. (Proverbs 21:26)

4. Pray, without ceasing. (Colossians 1:9)

5. Answer, without arguing. (Proverbs 17:1)

6. Share, without pretending. (Ephesians 4:15)

7. Enjoy, without complaint. (Philippians 2:14)

8. Trust, without wavering. (Corinthians 13:7)

9. Forgive, without punishing. (Colossians 3:13)

10. Promise, without forgetting. (Proverbs 13:12)

A polite reminder to all parents and carers about expectations…

Our Golden Rule at school is, “Treat others as you want to be treated.” (Luke 6:31). This is not just the expectation for our children, but for also for the adults (all staff, visitors, and parents/carers).

Please remember to be respectful and courteous to all when on and around our school site. While we appreciate that at times tempers can flare, please ensure you are at all times modelling the behaviour you

would expect not only from other, but also from your children. Remember: children are great imitators, give them something great to imitate!

Also remember the words of our Lord when he said, “This is my commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you.” (John 15:12). Although at times, you may find it difficult to “bite your tongue” or “turn the other cheek”, I must insist that you all conduct yourself with the utmost respect towards each other, respect for our school rules, and respect for the rights of everyone else not to witness such displays. Times at the moment are trying, let’s all try to be compassionate and patient with each other. Sometimes we all have ‘off’ days; I would hope I am not judged by my worst day. Remember, forgiveness is in your gift, as is an apology if warranted. And if all else fails, remember this quote, direct from yours truly, “Manners are free. It costs nothing in life to be respectful and polite!”

Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. (1st Corinthians 13:9)

National Poetry Day – Wisbech Reads On 1st October, it was National Poetry day. During the Spring and Summer term of last year, Year 2 worked alongside The Wisbech Reads team to write our own poems. In the summer term, the children drew and illustrated the poems that we wrote; Harrison, Imogen, and Amy won the poetry competition for Key Stage 2 pupils. We were delighted to have received a copy of the Wisbech Schools Poetry book for all of the children in Year 2 and the winners of the competition. Well done to you all!

Proud progress moment!! All of our children have been working hard since returning to school in September. Look at the fantastic progress that Caspian has made in his writing! We are so

proud! Read Caspian’s ‘Cold’ and ‘Hot’ writing tasks - at the back of the Newsletter.

School Meals It is great to see so many of our children enjoying the delicious school meals cooked by Mrs Cundell and Mrs Radford. Just a reminder that your child’s ParentPay account must be in credit before booking a meal. If there is no credit on the account you will be contacted to either top up the account before lunch or be asked to bring a packed lunch in.

If your child is in Reception, Year One, or Year Two, they are entitled to Universal Infant Free School Meals, so no payment is required. If you would like to see a menu please visit our website, www.wsmacademy.co.uk

Bad apples and bugs!

"Bad Apple" exercise is the game/project Awdry Class are working on with Mr Walewski to design their tiny worlds. Their challenge this week was very tricky, but the children persevered! The children had to implement and adopt the code (if they planned to control the character themselves or automate Kodu movement), recognise the win and lose conditions, use variables to show progress and of course find the bug in a given algorithm. We’re gearing up to applying all of our knowledge and skills to create our own “Catch the Fish” games! Well done!

We have been doing lots of activities this week, from paintings inspired by Van

Gogh’s ‘Sunflowers’ to making our own creations using natural, yellow dough and wearing yellow to show our support for children’s mental health.

In addition to our #Yellow activities, we have also been learning about symmetry when creating our “mirror image” paintings.

Pre-School staff would like to thank you for your continued support.

As a school we decided to support World Mental Health Day on Friday 9th October. Throughout the day children

completed well-being and mental health activities to further understand

how to help themselves. Through these activities a shared togetherness

was established, and a better awareness of mental health achieved.

Thank you everyone!

Thank you for your continued support, Miss Freeburn

We raised £106 for Yellow Day so far!

Thank you all!
