After breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you
love me…?” “Yes, Lord,” he answered, “You know that I love you.”
“Then feed my lambs,” he said. --John 21:15
Jesus and Peter had this conversation at an impromptu beach party beside
the Sea of Galilee. It happened after the first Easter. It was a wonderful
morning for the disciples: here they were with Jesus once again. So much
had happened since the crucifixion—things almost too marvelous for words.
First there had been that awful Friday, but in retrospect at least, it had been
followed so quickly by the Resurrection. There had been the strange
experience of the disciples as they found the tomb empty; there had been
Mary’s wonderful meeting with the gardener/Jesus. And then, after Mary
had run to the disciples with her news, Jesus had confirmed it as he appeared
to all of the disciples that first Easter evening—all of them but Thomas.
But then, a week later, Jesus had appeared to Thomas as well, ending his
doubt, giving him certain knowledge. And now, this breakfast on the beach
with Jesus. They had been a part of it all. What joy! What excitement!
Christmas and the Fourth of July all mixed together and then some!
Wouldn’t it be great if it could go on forever? But it couldn’t. Jesus did not
die on the cross just to give his few closest friends the time of their lives.
There was more to it than that. There was a larger purpose. And so, now
after the celebration, a time of decision:
“Peter, we’ve been together a long time now. You’ve learned a lot; we’ve
shared some great moments. You know about the joy of the love of God; you
also know that most people do not. You know what the world needs to hear,
and you know the cost of telling it. Will you do my work for me?”
Jesus also addresses the question to us and to all who would follow him.
Will we be his witnesses in our communities and in the larger world?
Here in Berea, as we continue visioning and working in the Healthy Church
Initiative program, we are challenged to dream new dreams and to open our
hearts to the leading of God’s Spirit. It is a time not to sit back, but to move
forward. It is a time to discern God’s purpose for us and to answer his call.

Announcing a new support group for caregivers!
The relationship between a caregiver and the person they care for often changes with a traumatic injury, illness, frailty or loss of memory. This support group helps family caregivers understand and cope with difficult emotions experienced when relationships change. The leader of the group is Lori Hanson, LPCC (Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor). This FREE support group is being presented by HansonHouse and the United Methodist Church of Berea. We will meet for 6 sessions at the church beginning on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 from 6:30-7:30PM in the parlor. We will have some sandwiches, soup and perhaps a few cookies for a light dinner. Please call the church (440-234-3525) to register for this support group. Submitted by Jo Boggs / Approved by Rev. Skip Myers

COSROW Corner – March 2016 Women in History Month!!! It is time to recognize the contributions initiated by a handful of women in California in 1980’s. In 1987 Congress established March as a special month dedicated to the achievements of women; so Goggle that and find all the women’s resources. Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton blazed the trail followed by Alice Paul, Carrie Chapman Catt, Anna Howard Shaw (a Methodist minister), and count-less others who sacrificed to bring the vote for women. We stand on the shoulders of many brave souls. We salute the pioneers! Submitted by Jo Swanson

With your support and generosity, we will work toward completing another Apostles Build Project this year. Our goal is $4,000. We are kicking off our efforts with fundraising dinners at Tony K's and Five Guys Burgers on Bagley Road in March. Watch for additional restaurants and dates in April and May. Please be sure to tell your friends, neighbors, co-workers, people on the street, share on Facebook or any other social media and remind them to help by dining at the following restaurants.

March is MS Awareness Month!
Laurie Garvin (UMCB Member) will be the spokesperson for MS on March 13th.
Multiple Sclerosis or MS, is a long-lasting disease that can affect your brain, spinal cord, and the optic nerves in your
eyes. It can cause problems with vision, balance, muscle control, and other basic body functions. The effects are often
different for everyone who has the disease. Some people have mild symptoms and don’t need treatment. Others will
have trouble getting around and doing daily tasks. MS happens when your immune system attacks a fatty material
called myelin, which wraps around your nerve fibers to protect them. Without this outer shell, your nerves become
damaged. Scar tissue may form. The damage means your brain can’t send signals through your body correctly. Your
nerves also don’t work as they should to help you move and feel.
