OUR LADY OF THE LAKE CATHOLIC CHURCHThe Fourth Sunday of Lent
During Lent, our homilists will focus attention on the scriptures for that week in light of the core actions that help us to follow Jesus Christ as disciples. Listed in the graphic to the left, these five characteristics emerged as a central component of our parish’s participation in the Parish Catalyst program along with other cohort parishes around the country.
On this Fourth Sunday of Lent, we hear how the Israelites gather to celebrate their arrival in the Promised Land; the Prodigal Son returns home to gather with his father to celebrate their relationship; and St. Paul admonishes the community in Corinth to be reconciled with God.
As Joshua and Israel enter the promised land where they are able to eat of the food God provides from the land, we remember how God fed them
at the Passover meal and with manna – Bread from Heaven – foreshadowing the Eucharist. In the Gospel, the younger son breaks ties with his father and family and finds himself in isolation. When he returns the father welcomes him with a great feast. The older son (out of jealousy?) refuses to enter the feast. Gathering is a key element of the Eucharist. It is not designed to be celebrated in isolation, but in community. At the Eucharist God offers mercy and reconciliation (to the younger son), and invites us to be merciful and reconcile with others (the older son).

Celebrate Easter by Offering Hospitality On Easter Sunday, our parish grows much larger with many family members home for the holiday, their guests, local visitors, and seasonal participants. It’s a wonderful oppor-tunity to extend the hospitality that Jesus encourages us to offer all who seek the Lord. Easter is a special moment to live our mission. Our attitude must be that of Christ – come to me all who are labored and burdened, and find rest in me (Mat-thew 11:28).
Are you willing to be part of Christ’s welcoming face and presence on this Easter Sunday morning? This year, in or-der to better accommodate the large number of people who attend our 9 AM and 11 AM Masses, we will “simulcast” the Mass into the Parish Hall (video and audio in real time) to allow us to provide additional seating for up to 300 more people. Many people arrive at the same time and seating is limited in the church.
We are seeking parishioners to assist at these two Masses as “Greeters” – to particularly welcome our Easter Sunday guests as they arrive on our campus, help them to find seats, direct them to the hall when the church is full, and to be
“ambassadors” of our parish offering hospitality and an-swering questions.
We want to be clear that “Greeters” are not “Ushers” who have specific tasks and provide for safety assistance at each Mass. Greeters will simply and specifically focus on wel-coming people at each Mass and provide that great gift of hospitality. Families and couples would make great Greeter teams.
Easter Sunday Greeter Requirements:1. Arrive at 8:15 for 9:00 AM Mass; 10:15 for 11:00
AM Mass2. Park off-campus to provide additional space for
guests3. Have a willing spirit to meet and greet our Easter
guests 4. Welcome visitors and direct to the church or the
parish hall5. Be assigned a specific location on campus to meet
and greet.

Easter Environment OfferingsWe are again offering the opportunity to remember loved ones during
the Easter Season. If you wish to participate, an offer-ing may be made in any dollar amount. Your gifts will be used to enhance the environment of the Church from Easter Sunday to Pentecost. Your offerings may
be made “in memory of ” or “in thanksgiving for.” Envelopes are in baskets in the Narthex, be at the elevator entrance, and Parish Hall.
Please place your envelope in the collection basket or bring it to the Parish Office. Your name and your in-
tentions will appear on a list in the church as well as in the Easter Sunday bulletin. The cut-off date is Sunday, April 14.

OLL School: Middle School MathematicsIt has been a very exciting couple of weeks in the Middle School Math Program as we finish our 2nd Trimester. This year, students have made a tremendous effort using both Khan Academy and ALEKS. These online tools have helped our students shown significant growth on their STAR Testing results. We will continue to use these online resources throughout the rest of the year.
Each trimester we focus on one major project in each class. In 2nd Trimester, Geometry students took a look into the geometric patterns created by fractals. Algebra 1 students looked at the impact that “doubling” had on a penny. And, our Pre-Algebra classes worked to become masters of a strategy game that we called “Dirty Money.” It was wonderful to see the hard work and effort that our students put into their work.
We started off the 3rd Trimester last week, which included March 14, also referred to as “Pi-Day” because it is 3.14, the first few digits of Pi. We spent time appreciating the beauty of the circle and the incredible realization of the irrational number that we know of today as Pi.

Night Strike under the Burnside Bridge March 21 and Street Ministry to the Homeless on March 23 were both supported with maximum volunteer participation. Both service projects focused on helping feed the hungry and providing love, support and recognition to those less fortunate. Pictures from both events will be in next week’s bulletin.

Street Ministry to the Homeless – April 27 and May 25 We will prepare a hot breakfast, sack lunches, hygiene kits and sort clothing. We serve a large group of homeless waiting for us in Oregon City, Gladstone and Clackamas. We share our love, support and caring.
Life Change for Women and their Children – May 11 Lunch for Women and their Children – Join us to help prepare a lunch for the moms and entertain the kids. We will join the moms for lunch that day.
Sacred Heart Cemetery Clean Up – Saturday, May 18. Join Kimi Tomaszek in the annual cemetery refresh and clean up!
Compassion Connect Free Medical, Dental and Vision Clinic May 18 at Wilson High School — Volunteer to serve in a variety of capacities as a medical professional or helping with hospitality, welcoming, interpretation or food service. Our Knights of Columbus, St. Vincent de Paul and Mercy Teams will all join in to provide a lunch and all day snacks to the anticipated 600 people including guests of the clinic, their families, and all volunteers.
