Love poems

By Kanyi Thiong’o

1.

First word

That time, that time

my heart helped not to flower

when our innocent eyes

shook hands, blooming

leaving me in a melt

of sweet compassion

and love.

My soul searched and found

fortune so noble and sound

A dream palace

and laid in place

free from fears and tears

gladly you were all ears.

Your tender welcome

Witnessed: am at home

To dwell in this serene

But create no sin.

Your face was a gleam

1

Page 3: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

That filled me to the brim

Blessing as the rain

was your wisdom

and flair norm.

Soft, sleek and smooth

was your voice

That sent my soul poise

Subdued in vehemence

Acknowledging your deeds

prudence.

Sincerity holds

Am not dirty

My claim in totality

but ask no party

They'll brand me pity

Take your time

and brand your rhyme

giving room

to your findings

For the short time

we've shared

a blessing not spared

Supreme am not

though you'll weep not

Any a time2

Page 4: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

Should my heart confess

So I say

to send out awe

That would send you a bow

Come and let us

Embrace

This long awaited power

That will turn me

To all your ways

But stand in defence

for men's eyes conference

Soiling established fences

That binds two in heart

You too stand witness

that aged fondlers

have gone down the drain of sorrow

Once their ear

gave room to a third ear

2.

I DO

Our feelings forcelessly fused

factly fully fledged3

Page 5: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

Taking into our wings

We flew far a universe

To an island of pure fondness

Our hearts flourished in affection

That fussed us strong, shedding diamond

tears

of so sweet romance and fragrant touch.

Fervidly in our movement

We searched and found

A noble world of silence

That filtered our differences

Fitting us firm

After our first fluidal feast

In this fate of flavour

May we root

To sustain it from fading

In true dedication and fidelity

For us and generations to come.

3.

SOUL FETCHING

Meticulously

Wonderfully made

I dropped to my knees

That by our grace

I may be allowed

to lay my marooned heart

Which by your revered charms

We architectured

When we sang this chorus

of unplanned meeting

and by your honour

You may see me to my feet

That we may crash our differences

Into dust of togetherness

4.

TWO IN ONE

Amidst light and darkness

We met and confessed

Let’s give it a try

Building our hopes

Neither too high5

Page 7: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

Nor too low

Till we confirmed

All was beyond fantasy

Shrewdly in words and manner

We shoved our differences

However big or small

but malicious enough

to make two stumble

and fall apart

making it up the ladder

of passion and fondness

In our newly discovered world

Enough for only two

We laid our ardent beginning

Of love and oneness.

And on the pillars

Of utter warmth and liking

Our tower of untold love

Gloriously has pedestaled

And silent winds from all over

Have caught it's sight

And have sought explanation

But mercilessly has collapsed

In an ocean of futility

Words on their part have proclaimed6

Page 8: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

Utter surrender

None to be committed

To gossip the grandeur

Of this love between you and me

Stars far a universe

Earnestly has learnt

Of this night mere

And have yearned to ask my apple

Whose answer is my man

And I have quenched the stars ear

-Neither me nor my loved one-

BUT WE

No sooner we had met

Than our hearts metamorphosed

We buried our past

In a bottomless pit

Filled it with blazing sulphur

None ever to climb out

Coming our way

But perish to oblivion

Looking into others smiles

Remained the others pleasure

Like the calm enticing breeze

That soothes rosy flowers7

Page 9: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

Into blooming petals

The mark of spring

That no longer do we dwell

In a world of several masters

But one in heart

And our life has become

Utter one.

5.

MY PRAYER

Your heart fetched and found

Deep consolation

When at last we gave

A go an honest go ahead

To this liking

Our hearts fell

For each other

Swiftly so soundless

Only our hearts know

What a struggle

Our dialogue fought

From twilight to twilight

That we may embrace

Such honest sincerity

Of true love and liking

8

Page 10: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

Upon heavens

Our lord made it happen

For reasons known to him

Reasons too well known

To our hearts

But no one would dare confess

We bowed and worshiped

This warmth

Which we finely found

From time to time

That life at least may have

Some liquid meaning

We bowed and worshiped

The silent heaven

Whose naked dark sky

Filled with stars

And a smiling crescent

At last witnessed our first passionate hug

Each heart registered

How caring our arms will be

In this rejuvenation

Of a long lost dream

Which finally has come our way

Uncoiling the weeping

And woes of desire.9

Page 11: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

May this

What we share tonight

Amidst the stars above

-concealed in this dark-

bring to us the long searched bond

for now and forever

keeping Lucifer a bay

never to blaze this passion

as he has to many

In our lord arms

May these wreathes

And whimpers

Weave us with strings of honesty,

Kindness, forgiveness and love.

Above all faithfulness

For each and every day

May we forever see

The glowing light

In one another

Like we do today

never to tumble

in the hands of any darkness.

SHOULD I TALK

Listening I may look

But ears quite far they are

So close I may look

To you

But quite far I am

Talking I may look

But silent I am

Docile I may look

But racing all over I am

Quiet I may look

But talking I am

Healthy I may look

But sick I am

Awake I may look

But sleep I am

Although listening to the heat inside.

Listen

to the music and dance

But to the beat not

When you glance right through

Into my eyes

Two beans floating in milk

You've described them

But change now your understanding

I've stretched my hands

To encounter your texture11

Page 13: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

But felt none

I've listened

When you talked but heard nothing

You hummed to the rhythm

Of your hearts melody

But I heard no tune

I looked at you but saw nothing

You sympathized with me

But no sympathy rung my way

Your warmth I felt

But was cold inside

I replied your smile

But I was crying

Take now take now

Myself to you I give

Caress caress,

With both hands

My succulent breasts

My succulent life

Up and down up and down

Gently touch

Till I stagger, till I fall

And I won't mind

As long as you'll be there

To pick me to my feet12

Page 14: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

Touch without touching

Talk without talking

Sing without singing

And run away

From your back to come closer

And warm me up

Till am dead but alive

Go go ahead

Until I whimper

Go go ahead

Until I've sunk into myself

Help me to rest

On your laps

And wrap me

with your arms

till I close my eyes

Bring down

but slowly

your wet fleshy lips

and when we kiss

kiss until the kiss

until the feeling

has ran through

and settled

deep down in me

13

Page 15: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

Go on until am juicy

Go on until am dry

Go on

Until there are no words

From me

And when I collapse

Unconscious

Help me to your soft serene bed

And softly smoothly

Help me lie sound still

And let it all be

To thy will.

7.

TRUST

So difficult, oh difficult

Quite so hard to digest

When I talk

but quite easy 14

Page 16: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

to listen

so easy to talk

but difficult to learn

this lesson

so just trust

these simple words

when I cry that my love is yours

8.

FIRST SIGHT

We met

hearts craving for affection

yearning for harmony

that supersedes eyes twitched

in cherish of all these

mouth confessed

the love for each other

ears calmed

in waiting

for these words so helplessly

The journey began

For a day, a month

And now a couple of years

Let the journey last

And last, now and forever.

15

Page 17: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

9.

ALL WORDS

All words said

In tears I paid

In utter tension

For your attention

Though halfway

We made a way

Though not in lust

But seem not to last

Reasons to your known

My stance a cone

Whose apex

Is not pecks

But here you see me go

In lost love

Though my ego

Willing to carve

A mark of unforgetfulness

In thy heart seeking forgiveness

But you've said I go

In tears I will go

For you know me too well

But have buried this well 16

Page 18: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

Of our finely found love

I have nothing to save

But to wreathe

This bitter end

10.

SILENT HYMN

Soft: dare utter

Soft so that texture fears

Soft: blinder of sight

Soft: that deafens

Soft so odourless

Softness that doves envy

Soft so

Is you

Unto thy bosom

We clenched a bond

Soft so it was

Exchanging my heart

For an angel's

Dwell now soft

Forever in me

That I dwell17

Page 19: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

Forever in you

11.

PLEASE

Closest unto thy

Resistant to decay

Unbosom your well

For me to dwell

A destructive wreath

Fashioned words but myth

Their arrow head missing

To set your heart calming

Iced shoulder thy response

Awake thy romance and release me

This burden free

Condemn thy creator

For love strongest thou to utter

Strange so

Then to thy ear

To hell then my passion

My tongue and my mind in rhythm

Thy passion my hymn

Eye me your ugliness

And I'll shun in joy

18

Page 20: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

But as numb with you

Closer to you

Closer to your eyes

Red waters marking our tie

Nymphet’s virginity

Swept away

And we two shall sigh

Forever more and bind

All hamattans but odd.

12.

ETERNAL FLAMES (I)

Sweet are the memories

Of sweet voices

we once enjoyed

hands we once shook

faces we once admired

blend with sincerity

and honest smiles

sweet scent of olive oil

thy fond of your skin

gently as time unfolded

sweet meals we once shared 19

Page 21: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

in joy

and gladness

as white as snow

our hearts remain

in this gladness

which but sorrow and tears

burnt away

living you not

Dear one

behind

But no longer are they

as white as they used to be

but the great flames

of your departure

all have turned

black as coal

why

I wonder why

You had to leave.

13.

BEFORE AND AFTER

Dull was my heart20

Page 22: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

But your strange embraces

Resurrected my youthfulness

Passionately, my heart

you conquered

heaven reined my heart

holding my hand

you led me

to your arms

and deeply into your heart

your love set me free

from my deep sorrow'd misery

flying like butterflies

when summer flows

my tears highest rose

but tenderly, you wiped me dry

in love and fondness

your romantic sway

cooled me to earth

and here you are

telling me goodbye

once you are gone

I'll fasten a rope on a beam

On the other end loop a sliding knot

And fathom not 21

Page 23: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

We are apart

Sliding the knot

Over my head

My feet will spring

Off the beam

And when I take my first swing

My work will be done

Leaving the rest

To the rope

14.

ETERNAL FLAMES (II)

Difficult

than your departure

is to imagine we are apart

though our hearts still hold

close close indeed

so sudden was your end

that no man believed

sad so for any soul to embrace

that our faces shall never meet again

22

Page 24: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

hardly kissed your worth

was I

than your awful departure

revealed

what you ever meant to my soul

I wish I had a chance

To feel your hips, kiss your lips

and suck your breasts again

drunk

with our togetherness:

never did it occur

that we'd drift apart

in the hand of fate

so hard it pains

when I bend

and my feeble hands

stretch to place this wreath

that you may rest

in eternal peace.

23

Page 25: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

15.

SHOUT OH SHOUT

Shout the loudest you can

And dispel me from your domicile

Use the hottest charms

Known in the world of evil

To cast my corps

Miles from you

But all this will be futile

For am so legless

To walk away

Ever since you showered me

With the warmth of your flesh

Warmth which comes second from none

24

Page 26: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

That was the real love

Any man can touch, lick

And taste from a human's soul

Transcending so deep into my soul

Filling my heart to the brim

So leaving is a mere lie

If not a myth never hard on earth

16.

I MISS YOU

Grateful I was

For the brief moment we shared

In solid oneness and companion

Your warm assistance to me you gave

With both hands: so selflessly

So dear a call it was

to mind my racing emotions

on earth I search and find none

who can equal your love and gentleness

quite warm and tender

above all is your voice

that is so sweet melodious nurtured

25

Page 27: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

17.

ALL I KNOW

All I know

is all you pleases

all I know

is all you cherish

all I know

is all you hold

to heart as dear

all I know then

is so simple

-the art to make you happy-

the art to make your face smile

the art to make your heart hum

the most melodious of the tunes

come with me then

to smile forever

-a joy that will transcend beyond26

Page 28: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

eternity

18.

REST ASSURED

The heavens glitter

So clear in thy eyes

When straight

in my eyes you look

so enticing your lips are

your smile crescents

pulling me closer

as I yearn to kiss those dimples

which drive me mad with erections

revealing your set of teeth

that shimmer like two straws of snow

Innocently, forceless so

I find my feeble legs

And to thee I come

Singing the same old song:

-Sounds of sweet compassion-

we once knew

Baibe lets now hug

And unearth

the sweet forgotten past

bring everything

to a sweet beginning again 27

Page 29: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

19.

DISTANT WINDS (I)

Strange were the days:

When legs journeyed

When hands touched

When ears listened

When noses smelled

Sweet so

Your fragrance

When mouths talked

Of your tenderness

Of your sincere innocence

When hearts coiled

Around the blank serene

Nature

Of our makeup

And here you leave

With one whose touch

Is gentler

Whose speech is softer28

Page 30: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

Whose ear is keener

Whose gait is handier

Whose conscious is smarter

Whose heart's is dovely

Whose sight is tender

When thy twin anthills

have found their way

When your fleshy rear

has learnt of it's worth

You have set your destination

So far where the distance skies

Kiss the foot of the distant hills

Carving an emptiness in me

of how I'll miss:

Your gentle touch

Your soft melodious voice

Your angel like look

Your cotton skin

Your sweet caresses

that dociled a racing heart

Your long woollen hair

Your juicy kisses

Your white milk teeth

YOUR GUITAR SHAPED WAIST

How deserted I feel

At this time 29

Page 31: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

long awaited for

when the play would sculpture meaning

in your feelings

tears

roll

tears

roll

roll

From my eyes

From my heart

As I see your leave

Your back

Making fun of me

Turn and show me

Your face for the last time

That the cool tune of your honest smile

may stick in my eyes

never to cease in my heart

and please wave back

when I wave in tears

not to say goodbye

but to rub off my tears

that I may have your last clear view

and register

Am still something somewhere

however small30

Page 32: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

in your loving heart

Once you vanish from my sight

I'll turn to the distant winds

and seek liaison

Ever to bring you

Bouquets of the most lasting

Peaceful serene

And on its way back

Ever to bring me

The sweet scent

Of your endless memories.

31

LIVING TOMORROW

Looking for one to love

My attempts in vain shutter

To my people at home I go

Nursing always these wounds

Blisters and scars

Of unreciprocated love

My prayer a strong hold

Convinced so I am

That I'll say good bye

To this world of loneliness

An honest smile

On my face will then creep

-My friend's grand pedestal-

when the gift of love and loving

I will embrace

Silent in soul singing

Let go loneliness

Let come love

32

DISTANT WINDS II

Blind were the days

When legs

Days and night journeys

When hands dried lame

In hot fondles

When ears were deaf

To sounds of goodbye

When the nose confirmed

Your gentle scent

Your presence in the heart of the night

Both of us concealed in your mud hut

When mouths confessed in whispers

What I felt of you

When hearts clung

To the endless embraces

Boiling in hot passion

Look not at my mouth

The mouth that lies

I've come this far

But did not the trekking

I've fought our enemies dead

But took no arms

I go to the loo

but does no job33

Page 35: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

am hungry

but feeds the stomach

am thirsty

but quenches the thirst

I've seen you my love

But have no eyes

I've had your wise council

But has no ears

I'll miss you

But has no such strong feelings

Of a weeping

Close your eyes

that my words may sip

right through your kind ears

into your loving heart

uninteruppted by whatever

that may catch your sight

Stopping you from receiving

This what my heart has long prepared for you

Your endless compassion

never has been

rain wasted in the sea

but as a desert plant,

I have the modesty

To confess to your heart34

Page 36: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

(that which no human word would capture)

(that which no human ear would resist)

(that which no soul would get access to)

That which no poem

Would reveal

but better known

only by the heart of the desert plant

because that is what

I am

Take my word by heart

As no rain or water

Can ever tell the pinch

of growing thirst

and non ever knows

the depth of consolation

it ever brings an arid heart like mine

before I met you

How empty was I

Like the naked sky

but now am full again

with affection, like the turgid cloud

-the mother of health, wealth and beauty-

At your heart I peep

through it's windows -your eyes-

and learn it is the true35

Page 37: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

honest and faultless simple love

you had for me

Love with no patches

Love with no bruises

Love with no weevils

Love of so pure a state

I thus turn my back

innocently so

to cause no ill feelings

to a selfish heart

which you neither possess

nor do I

for my joy is your joy

the joy of our heart

my grief the grief of your heart

Blessing one truth heartly

That before I met you

Mine was to wash

My stomach

Leaving my back dry

But now I know

To wash and bath clean

So; the wise words go 36

Page 38: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

he who farms

reaps not the sweetness of his labour

but as sound as so the proverb

embrace the reality

that once hunger has conquered our way

like a torn garment

it has to be mend

He found his feed

When he found me and so helpless I was

Like a boiled grain

in the hands of a hungry man

how safe was I

to restore my long searched and found dream

of the past!

we fondlessly shared

in a cool silent bliss

that saw our helpless hearts

cling to the bottom

of utter passion

when your tongue

was mine

when it's your push

I cherished, pleased and patted

Sweet so in whimpers

Only known to you and I

37

Page 39: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

Take now my words

"my love to see our generation flourish"

a shuttered dream

whose good is none

than meeting his hunger

my heart smiling at one consolation

they who will sustain our species

will need fertile grounds to lay their eggs

Thus my only option to lay and decay

Once his tenure gone

That in the land of spirit so eternal

Ever together shall we remain

But for now am the fertile land

when he takes me

and drops me the next minute

so serene I calm

in the eyes of sincere smiles

in the faces of my young one

this time I turn

to face your face

not to say goodbye

but to bow at heart

to honour and worship what you are and

that so you may remain38

Page 40: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

in light heartedness

the craze of the queen:

for free from ailment

we can only be should we kiss our death

in place you sat

but neither were you there

nor were you

where you seemed to be

your eyes appeared to read the horizon

but this was a lie

for blank was your mind

for so hard it was

to see me go

but take now

my hand I give thee

look into my eyes and learn

all these which I want to convey

to thy heart and soul

in words and diagrams

that at last

I may send your heart poise

Free from fear

Your heart sound

Free from tears

Before I go39

Page 41: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

Am not going

For am leaving

But I'll even stay and remain

For you are something to my heart

Something big and something special

Ever will you be with me

Wherever I'll go, wherever I'll sleep

I WILL ALWAYS WALK AND SLEEP

ON YOUR MEMORIES

Take now may last flesh kiss

I give you

Not that our lips may touch and part

But may bring to reality

How coalesced our hearts will last in the immortality

Of the sweet gone past

And when lips touch

Let them stand stark

Glued hard at heart

When we swallow each other's fluids

Ever to dwell in us

A mark of how memory will ever bind us

Bind our hearts

In the lonely silence of prayer

That is just about to befall

When our bodies part ways

But hearts clinging to each other40

Page 42: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

MORE THAN EVER BEFORE

22.

EYES ENTANGLED

Your bewitching charms

So long they are

With tendrils of my passion

They have met and entangled

Always when it's you I see

Am in this web

How I collapse internally

You don't know

But watch me secretly

And my eyes will tell

Of this long passionate longing

Which equals chasing the wind

Am ringed in finger

And so fragile

My yesterdays flower stands

In the hands of the infidelity

But so encompassed I am

When its your warmth I dream of

When its your skin I touch

Your eyes enticing so

YOUR VOICE SO HOMELY41

Page 43: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

That incapacitated I feel

And I always melt in fantacy

That one day

We shall get there

Where ever I am in dreams

When its you I see , I recall

Round and fleshy so

Brown in colour

The paucity of my miss

23.

NO

I say no

in yes for

I mean NO

Hence I say NO

To mean yes

In acceptance

Of your hand

Hence ill' not come

To mean I will

With you

In this journey

Of mercy making

Tears known

worlds of far

If its true love42

Page 44: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

For me you have

24.

AFTER ALL

Its no sin

I create

To your ears

When I whisper

Words that curves

a heart

to mean

I love you

I so straight

From my heart

From my soul

They come

For you

To take seriously or ignore

After all

It's no sin

I create

If it’s the truth

I speak

And not a lie

25.

SIMPLY CONQUERED

In and out 43

Page 45: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

I gasp

For my breath

That your sight

In my eyes

Should come tomorrow

Since

The first day

My eyes

Met you

Let me

Breath in and out

Today

And tomorrow

But when it's you

I'll breath in

Stop me

From breathing out

Since I'll not

Breath out

When It's you

I'll breath in

26.

WHY THE STRUGGLE IS THERE

If all words were sweets 44

Page 46: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

And all wrappers were lies

Thence the language stands

A garment of hypocrisy

Words, then dare utter

And say I love you

For so blind to my feelings

Your words are

But as possible

As burying as the ocean

My confession is

That I hate you.

Unwrap my words then

And take them serious

When I say I love you

After all, it only calls

For some understanding

Divorced from our pride and prejudice

And at last we shake hands

~in love~

27.

PATTERNS

Under the cloudless sky

Stars bared witness

How you kindled45

Page 47: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

My love for friendship

Into such a rolling poise

My hand I extended

And yours you offered

Pulling me

From the froth mud

of loneliness

Into such an ecstasy

Of maddening friendship

So long

that my heart will never tire

to mind your happiness and joy,

the well being of your emotion

the only garden I love to tend

real friends then we are

philanthropy known not

to me and you

for my people too I pull

from such agony

so long as my wallet

remains faithful with

my call to mind sharing

honouring the gift to love and give

they too pull their friends

the same manner

a true world of friends46

Page 48: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

and friends indeed

friends that an't enemies

enemies that ain't friendly.

28.

HEALING SCARS

To you I said

I love you

But NO you said

To my earnest love

Creating such a wound

Which has only cured

with time

but the scar remains

to you I now say

I hate thee

That at last

You may say

You love me

If and only if

You must give

An opposite answer 47

Page 49: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

To my helpless calling

Unto thy gracious ear

But NO

again you have said

the scar yet cured

but at last

a cure must be found

once and for all

a cure for this scar

this longing I feel

but have no words to express

I now get the words

And it is nothing more than

A throat breaking thirst

For nothing else but your love

So honest and sincere

My confession I make

To thy doubting ear

For this the only way

To show that my heart

is laden with passion

for none other than you

so meek and honest

your love can be48

Page 50: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

form thy eyes

I can see

If so caring then you are

Bring it forth to love me not

If you have no love for me

But to wipe this scar

Which we both created

When you said No.

29.

THE SAME WAY

It’s the same way

A child cries for a pin

Ignorant of its painful pricking

I cry for the love

So long as you prick

My shyness away and deflate it forever

That I may confess,49

Page 51: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

The love I feel inside

The same way

A child cries

For red charcoal

Deceived

By its red attractive colour

So long as you burn

This barrier

Of letting you encompass

The feeling I have inside

Strong so

Heavier than a tonnes load

On ones shoulders

Help me then

To unburden my soul

Off this strong feeling

Even if

You'll keep it down

And walk your way.

30.

WHEN WE MET

It's my lips to you I gave

To kiss and stitch with yours

When my way you came bleating

Chewing grass and cuds like I

For all that time we courted

Until now when this ring50

Page 52: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

Has made us one until death

Do us part, but for me I wonder

For your oiled skin off its falling

Revealing an inner carnivorous coat

Your hooves off are peeling

Paws taking their serene place

Hungry with meat you are

Thirsty with blood your dry throat cracks.

31.

AWE'S CURE

Our eyes touched

And all was clear

Between me and you

Our one way this far

We've come

Should we stumble on awe

Lets turn to each other

And get

This touch we once had 51

Page 53: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

When our eyes touched

Crescent smiles in our faces

Sending the darkness between us

A little lighter

32.

WHEN I SAID WE PART

I said we part

Your eyes melt

And from your tears

A rainbow I saw

With all its different colours

Each colour revealing

A different aspect of you

Calling for reconsideration

To my decision

Something I hadn't

When my decision I made

Looking only at one aspect

Thence to you I came back

To go forward

In this divine call

When ours is the need to care.

33.

THE PAYING PATIENCE

So far I've travelled52

Page 54: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

Calling for my need to rest

When in long silence

My journeys I made

Calling for my need to talk

At last when it's you

Who struck my sight

Calling for my halt

The long fruitless journeys

When my fruit I met

When my way you came

34.

TALKING EYES

At me you cast

Censored so your sight

At them my gospel I spread

My heart in their ears

Doing the slow but deep

Talking my mouth shut

And at last to direction they move

For censored my eyes

Were not, rather inviting.

53

Page 55: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

35.

YESTERDAY

Good were the days

When we walked our ways

Hearts sweeter than pies

Cogent compelling so

Our feelings we saw

And here we are

Inviting fear

As we draw apart

Never again to pat

Honey hold my hand

However it might look hard

And we say good bye to misunderstanding

When our love again we buy.

36.

TO MY LOVE IN SECRET

To my love in secret these lines are meant

For in thy immaculate honour my need to is written

However humble, in silence my need to love is done

And to myself made to rest at peace

For in thy eyes, warmth that sappathes the blissful

heaven; down to my heart is sent

That when mine is the need to talk, words I do not get

For none exist that can capture in precise

What my way you brought since our hands shook

And at heart I bowed in thy honour54

Page 56: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

For so immaculate you stand. May your essence stand in

place and at peace

For it's in the attempt to talk myself gowned in the

realization of how strong your warmth would bring me

I've awaken to learn that the power to let go

would keep me stronger. So to me a love in secret I've

swore you'd ought remain since in contact the spring

flowers of my love for you their petals they'd shed

When what I feel inside is subjected to our human eyes

which make two quarrel their lips stack in a low silent

kiss.

37.

LOVE AND ROSES

My love for you

Is not

A rose

For roses are thorny

My love for you

Is not

Roses petals

For they grow and wither

My love for you 55

Page 57: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

Is not

A rose

For roses, plants are

My love for you

Is a rock

So hard withstanding

Weathering

In its colour

It is the beautiful serene

Marked by the poise

It brings, deep down

My calm heart

Roses prick

Rocks bruise

Mountains; dormant are

And their volcano

Their hypocrisy

My love for you is thus not

Comparable

It's only known

To my heart

My love for you 56

Page 58: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

Is then like my heart

For my heart to me

Is like heaven to me

When I am the best

For my self

So is your love for me

No lesser then can I give

To a heart like yours.

38.

SHOULD MY HEART WHISPER

I if I said I love you

To my heart unfortunately

Your ears of the human

In you; heard my silent voice

What the next thing

Could you do?

Should your wisdom whisper

To thy wise ear

That I am honest and sincere

II I would hate to be loved

At last

If my senses have deserted

I would you then feel good?57

Page 59: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

II I would smile, an honest smile

A deep smile

Right deep in my heart

I but I'd be sad

to see you smile

II I would love your sadness too

For with my whole heart

I'd love your whole self

Much more your sadness

For I know how I would drive it away

I But I'd be sad still

For your smile is an acceptance only

Not a reciprocation

And its for I love you

That you'd love me

II But in an answer to your love

My smile of acceptance

Would ride in my face

For my love for you would you take

I I'd rather not take it

Instead leave you

with my wisdom

of loving even when 58

Page 60: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

you are not loved

II what about when you are loved

Should I then hate

I You should love more

II what if am ready now?

I You'd rather take some time

In preparation for your heart to love

And the more time you'd take

The better

II I'd then take the rest of my life

To remain in love

As I prepare

To love

I And I'd be happy with you

II I too would be happy with you

For I know why I'd be happy

I what if I'd extend my hand

To touch you

Would you chop it off and throw it 59

Page 61: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

To the dogs?

II as long as that

would make you happier

I and my lips, if I brought them forward

To kiss yours

II I'd give mine in return

I'd not bite yours

I what if I'd draw apart

The lips

Would you love me more?

II I'd love you more

I why don't we then kiss

And hold together?

II I'd rather be pardoned

Seeing the love you have for me

I and for my love for you

I'd pardon thee

II but my pardon

Is not for the love

I have for you60

Page 62: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

But the love you have for me

I In addition

II am only a poem

And you are the poet

Your will at last should prevail

When mine is to give you more

Than you ever brought me

I and I'd bring you more

to take less

II and for my love for you

At last I'd take nothing

So that you may at last

take a breath

I and anything from you

I'd take wholehearted

When with you

I leave my intentions

II I love you

I I love you too.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

Thy brown complexion is waoohh

Smooth, fine and whoopee

So nice to touch and to look at

So serene your words too

Poise is your gesture

And when you stand immaculate

is thy gait when you walk

soft so is thy fleshy and supple palm

when you shake my hand

warmth is in you

but all these known to you

in you is thus so clear

that free from fear

any one, with you

can fall in love

thence to you I've come heather

when form above

its in love I am with you

hands free from love

may be all you have

to offer

for thy dreams above heaven you've set

like me when its you I met

so alien in me this feeling then

to cough it out then am helping62

Page 64: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

embrace it and go thy way

for below thy knees my passion rests

so far from thy hands

to catch

but too near you are

should I only extend my hands

we can only embrace

and bring this longing

to a sweet end

only if

IN LOVE

with me you are

40.

IGNORANT

To my heart all is said

But what I want I hear

Your mouth you opened to spoke

My ears giving attention

When I hard that from my loneliness

Your arms are open

And to your arms

You'll pick me

Ever to be with you

If so wrong I heard63

Page 65: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

Your words when you spoke

It’s the real words you said

I don wonna hear

Buying my misinterpretation

With one heart and soul.

41.

HASTE AND PATIENCE

With time wisdom comes

Never hurry love

With time plants grow

And mature

Ever hurry love

With time a child is born

Never hurry love

With time our dreams emanate

Into reality

Never hurry love

With time best decisions we make

Never hurry love

With time the best of the best

We achieve

Never hurry love64

Page 66: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

With time the best love comes our way

Never hurry love

With time God; we come to know

Never hurry love

With time our boundaries we demarcate

Never hurry love

With time we love

Immortality, love's immortality

Never hurry love.

SAY SOMETHING AT LEAST

Like the smooth soothing mellifluous tunes

That gives light to the night sky

Silently stealthily so you softly come

My vision blind of the around happenings

Yours graceful perfume scent

Holds me by my helpless arms

And turn my heart most attention to thy honour;

An angel missing in heaven you are

When blissfully you walk past me65

Page 67: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

Reality sending down sacred tears

That fills my yearning eyes

When it’s the truth my heart holds

In affection with you I am

But like a fresh fish from far waters

So slimy you are in my hands

That at last loneliness lies limp

In my soul when it's my words

I cannot confess.

And when no where, you are to hear

This confession of a weeping soul

Tears stroll my cheeks again

When to learn your soul side of story

Is my set destination

That at last my soul may settle

But as a fish in my hands

Again you slip away from my arms

From my words

To push the world I want

But show me the way either of coming.

And melting in your passionate arms

Or going leaving behind a trail

Of so sad a malignant memory

Of the way to me you came

Dispelling me from my love for you

As you attracted me twice, thrice

66

Page 68: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

The much you did unknowingly

But no where were you

To lead my yearning hand into your world

But ever there attracting me mercilessly so

That I should never go from you

Yet keeping me at a bay.

43.

WHEN AM IN LOVE

When its love I feel for you

Yet I can't help saying

At last my waning courage

Defeats this building anxiety which places

My feelings nude in your eyes.

It's my naked I feared to show

But like all men I can't help saying

I I love you

But me know not why

II I hate you

And me know the reason.

67

Page 69: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

I Gi me thine reason

For thy hatred

II For ma wisdom not blank

Long me had seen

You in love you are

With me

My hatred; for not saying;

Taking too long

I Do we now kiss and embrace

For me have confessed?

II No, till reason is in you

Why in love you are

I Reason here wid me I've got

Why am reasonless

II Tell me dear

I Course it’s the love

Me for have we too

Love so, non-definable

True love

II Come we kiss and embrace

For the same reason

My love is thys 68

Page 70: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

II & I Mmhh, mmh ahh, ahha (our song forever).

44.

IF YOU'D ONLY CARE

If you'd only care

Your ear

Could only hear

My innocent whisper

If you'd only care

Your heart

Could only be there

Embracing my heart

Collapsing with passion

For what you always send

Right through my spine

Only time can tell

When we meet and part ways

However much I'd deny

Simply; in love I am with you

Let's keep down our pride

And tend our feelings

The only way, the gift of loving

Would make sense in our lives

This the only power I need69

Page 71: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

And from you, should only come

If you'd only take your time

To taste this feeling

Which to me you brought

This dream of me with you

melting in your loving arms

if you'd only care.

45.

DREAMLESS

So empty of words

The feeling inside stand

Dreamless so to add

Increasing in vigour

Moving but standing still

Boiling with lust and desire

But no word to express

Let the dream come

For patience I buy

Until the dream is formed

Let no word come

From me to you

But when the expression

Finds its course70

Page 72: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

Take seriously my words

It may not be thy desire

But the much I can afford

A low your heart to learn

That an ounce may be all you have

This not too little for me

For its all heavens

To you have giveth

Let's not yearn for more

Till one we become

And when we coarlise

So plenty soaked in passion

Let the world for me and you

Remain shimmering forever

46.

IN YOUR EYES

in your eyes

my feelings crumpled

counting not more, not less

that what our lives had left behind

banking not on a lustful future

for as the raising sun twice brighter

are your loving deeds71

Page 73: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

your face of a rose

your warmth of a polar bear

when ice breath is all fate has in store

in all my endevours

that my need to be above my essence

all to you is known and from you springs

when in your eyes

my feelings were found

giving heed not to your flesh looks

but to the beauty of your soul.

47.

LAST CONFESSION

Like the morning ocean breeze

To me you downed

Blessing my hearts dew

-the long unfulfilled bliss-72

Page 74: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

a part in my soul

so tenderly you always touch

any time when away from you I turn

a drop of tear at my back forms

strong so the feeling

to come back I can't help

straight so from my soul's confines

each word said to thy loving heart

Many, to you have lied

Their innocent words

Saturated with lies

one among the few

who will tell you the truth

I am

For in a world full of liars

Honest men and women must also be found

however few

so sincere my words are

make your last fair decision

for the truth at last has landed

in your caring heart and ears.

48.

DEAR AFRICA73

Page 75: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

Holding unto thy romantic sway

Goodbye I say

To my lonely nights of yesterday

So clean cosmetics free your lips are

When to thine kiss I melt

Whimpering in thy warm caresses

I can't help

When it is to you I make love

And no doubt I here by confess

-you are sweet indeed-

your long arms wrapped around me

our lips licking each others juice

invigorating me from neck to toe

that none of my nerves can fail to respond

to your fine touch and your soothing voice

how blessed I feel to night

for if there's someone God loves:

then that is me

collapsing in your thighs

like I do to night

leaves me the happiest and the luckiest man

in Africa

for never had I before

felt the way I do to night

open your mouth and say you are here

because of me 74

Page 76: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

and I'll shed tears of joy

for in all my longings, never before had I ever thought

that such sweetness ever existed

happiest of all men in the world, I am

tendering to my feelings so

you have answered to all my human longings

I yearn not for anything else

For there's nothing else a man can dream of

After spending such a night

With a lady like you

Who so willingly will hold his hand

And take him down into the bottom of passion

Like you have done to night

Swearing over my dead body

I think from now until I die

I have only one dream to treasure

And that is thinking about you

Come rain come sun shine

Consoling so your words are

Thy mantle of sincerity cherishing

in our modest cultural complexion

wigs, perfumes and lip sticks

a mere fuss to thy wisdomed eyes

for deception in they hide

killing thy rare tranquility

75

Page 77: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

calm my heart unto thine sinks

touching you when it is something good

I want to touch

Kissing you when it is something good

I want to kiss

Holding you when it is something good

I want to hold

Watching you when it is something good

I want to see

Talking to you when it is to a good girl

I want to talk

The best of it; loving you all the more

For all you are

But humble the beginning looks

For dreams of ours, for each other are quite long.

49.

DISTANT ECHOES

Like the distant romantic drums

Distant echoes from thy heart confines

Into my mind and soul knock in whispers

Confessing earnest so thy ardent reality

Once one a bloom we are

Though tender and young our sought oneness

Reality ever showers the two of us 76

Page 78: LOVE POEMS by Kanyi Thiong'o

into this eternal tranquility once its clear and sincere

to each of us

never does our hearts look sideways

since we became one, empty of property

though bloating with the need to care for each other

holding strong to the bliss we caused each other

never to draw apart

50.

STRANGER

To hurt thy feelings I didn't mean either

But to whisper in thy ear when you come heather

Many the agonies in my heart quietly you cause

For non-better than you can my feelings bow unto

Thy innocent look and cool eyes a lot to me confess

However much concealment I try, between us

Reality hungs thy sallowness making things heavier

For things to come and never try

For loneliness my bread and alternative you'll provide

Though thy heart else where may be ringed

A breath I'll take confessing, so straight my sincere words

were

Absenting infatuation thy fear for men like me are known

to plant awe and deceit

A consideration only should you make, but if too fur for

thy grasp

From me to you I give my last word

To hurt thy feelings I meant neither.77
