One day long ago, some sailors set out to sea in their sailingship. One of them brought his pet monkey along for the longjourney. When they were far out at sea, a terrible storm inverted theirship.Everyone fell into the sea, and the monkey was sure that hewould sink.Suddenly a dolphin appeared and picked him up.They soon reached the Island and the monkey came down fromthe dolphin’s back. The dolphin asked the monkey, “Do you know this place?” The monkey replied,“Yes, I do. In fact, the king of the Island is my best friend. Doyou know that I am actually a prince?”Knowing that no one lived on the Island, the dolphin said,“Well, well, so you are a prince! Now you can be a king!”The monkey asked, “How can I be a king?”As the dolphin started swimming away, he answered, “That iseasy. As you are the only creature on this Island, you willnaturally be the king!”

THE WOLF AND THE LAMB

A lamb was grazing with a flock of sheep one day. She soonfound some sweet grass at the edge of the field. Farther andfarther she went, away from the others. She was enjoying herself so much that she did not notice a wolfcoming nearer to her. However, when it jumped on her, shewas quick to start demanding, “Please, please don’t eat me yet.My stomach is full of grass. If you wait a while, I will tastemuch better.”The wolf thought that was a good idea, so he sat down andwaited. After a while, the lamb said, “If you allow me to dance, the grass in my stomach will be digested faster.” Again the wolfagreed. While the lamb was dancing, she had a new idea. Shesaid,“Please take the bell from around my neck. If you ring it ashard as you can, I will be able to dance even faster.”The wolf took the bell and rang it as hard as he could. Theshepherd heard the bell ringing and quickly sent his dogs tofind the missing lamb. The barking dogs scared the wolf awayand saved the lamb’s life.

KELLING THE TRUTH

Page 19: Lovely Moral Stories for Children

Telling the truth is a very good habit. If you always speak the truth, youcan save yourselves from lots of trouble! Here is the story of a man, whodid a lot of bad things, but his promise to tell the truth saved him. Thisis a true story, so read it carefully.

Once a man came to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and said, "OhProphet of Allah, I have many bad habits. Which one of them should Igive up first?" The Prophet said, "Give up telling lies first and alwaysspeak the truth." The man promised to do so and went home.

At night the man was about to go out to steal. Before setting out, hethought for a moment about the promise he made with the Prophet. "Iftomorrow the Prophet asks me where have I been, what shall I say?Shall I say that I went out stealing? No, I cannot say that. But nor can Ilie. If I tell the truth, everyone will start hating me and call me a thief. Iwould be punished for stealing."

So the man decided not to steal that night, and gave up this bad habit.

Next day, he felt like drinking wine, when he was about to do so, he saidto himself, "What shall I say to the prophet if he asks me what did I doduring the day? I cannot tell a lie, and if I speak the truth people willhate me, because a Muslim is not allowed to drink wine." And so hegave up the idea of drinking wine.

In this way, whenever the man thought of doing something bad, heremembered his promise to tell the truth at all times. One by one, hegave up all his bad habits and became a good Muslim and a very goodperson.

MORAL:Make a promise: I shall always speak the

truth.

One old woman made a habit of throwing rubbish on ProphetMuhammad (SAW) whenever he passed from her house.Muhammad (SAW) had to pass that house daily on the way tothe mosque. Even when the old woman threw rubbish on him,he would pass silently without showing any anger orannoyance. This was a regular, daily event.

One day when Prophet was passing by the woman was notthere to throw the rubbish. He stopped and asked the neighborabout her well-being. The neighbor informed the prophet thatthe woman was sick on bed. The prophet politely askedpermission to visit the woman. When allowed he entered thehouse, the woman thought that he had come there to take hisrevenge when she was unable to defend herself because ofsickness. But the prophet assured her that he had come to her,not to take any revenge, but to see her and to look after herneeds, as it was the command of Allah that if any one is sick, aMuslim should visit him and should help him if his help isneeded.

The old woman was greatly moved by this kindness and love ofProphet. By the example of greatness of Muhammad (SAW),she understood that he was truly the Prophet of God and Islamwas the true religion. She accepted Islam at once.

It was a sunny day and fox was walking across the fields. Soonhe came to a vineyard. As he came nearer, he could see some bunches of juicy grapes. The fox looked carefully around him. He had to make sure thathe was safe from the hunters. He decided to steal some before anyone came along. He jumped upwards but he could not reach the grapes. Hejumped again as high as he could. He still could not reachthem. The grapes were just too high for him!He was not ready to give up. He backed off, took some runningsteps and leapt into the air towards the grapes. Again he failedto reach them.It was getting dark, and he was getting angry. His legs hurtwith all that running and jumping. At last he stopped trying. As he walked away, he said to himself, “I don’t really wantthose grapes. I’m sure they are too sour to eat.”

MORAL:ALL ARE EQUAL AND PRECIOUS.

PLURALISM

Once, a new child got his admission in my class. He was fromAfghanistan. When all the students saw him, they startedhitting him and made faces as if, they had not liked him. Few ofthe students complained that he is a dirty boy. Few of thestudents even don’t want to sit with him. One of the brilliantstudent of my class complained,“Munir sir, this boy stinks, he has no proper clothes and smellcomes from his clothes”I had one idea. I told all of the students that tomorrow I willtell you the solution. The next day when I came to the class, that student was sittingat the back. One of the student who was sitting just besides mesaid,“Munir sir, your socks are torn from one side”Another student told me that my shirt is torn from the sleeves.I said,“Oh god! I didn’t know this thing; what should I do now? Ithink It’s better to leave the class because I have torn shirt andsocks and I guess you all would not like it”As all the students adores me more than others, they finallytold me not to leave the class. One of the student said to me,“Munir Sir, so what! if your shirt sleeve is torn from one side. You must not leave the class at all.”I said,

Page 37: Lovely Moral Stories for Children

“My dear students, In the same manner, this new student haveworn torn clothe, smell comes from his clothe, but is it wiseenough to throw him out of the class or tell him not to come toschool from the next day. He is also human and ALLAHalways guides us to help every one. If any of your brothers is inneed, It’s our duty to help him. He is like your brother. All the students realized and felt sorry for their harshbehavior. They all shook hand with that student and the verynext day, the students brought old clothes, books etc for him. Istill remember that one of the students even brought soap, andtaught him how to clean face and hands properly.

Moral:We all are human isn’t it! Its our dutynot to hurt any one. Its also our duty

that if we find any poor child, weshould help him and treat every one

equally.
