THE CHRISMON TREEDid you see it in the Narthex? The term is a combination of Christ and Monogram. Early Christians used symbols of their faith at a time when it was dangerous to be a Christian.

The contemporary use of Chris-mons as the sole ornaments for the Tree began in 1957 and the use of Chrismons rapidly spread to churches around the world. The Chrismons on our tree were lovingly made by the ladies of the Roser Guild.

White is the liturgical color for Christmas and refers to our Lord’s purity and perfection. Gold refers to His Majesty and Glory. Each or-nament has spiritual significance. Stop on your way out and see how many you can identify: Latin Cross, Greek Cross, Cross & Globe (world united in Christ), Tau Cross (letter T with the Serpent entwined—the staff by which God saved Israel), Cross Crowned (Christ’s crown of glory), Lily (the Resurrection), Rose (the Christ) Palm (triumphant ride into Je-rusalem), Wheat & Grapes (body and blood of Christ), Crown of Thorns (our Savior’s suffering), Lily-of-the-valley (Christ’s humility), Fish (ancient secret sign), Butterfly (resurrection) Dove (Holy Spirit), Lamb (Christ), Scallop Shell (Baptism), Pearl (the Word of God) Triangle (Holy Trinity), Ball (the earth)

2016 Year End Financial and IRA Tax Planning

The Roser Endowment Committee is asking for your generous support.

Congress has permanently extended the tax-free contribution of up to $100,000 to charity for people who are required to take a mandatory IRA distribution for 2016 retroactively to December 31, 2014. This means that

any contribution made to Roser from an IRA distribution is non-taxable, but it must be executed by the end of 2016.

To enjoy these benefits for both YOU and YOUR CHURCH, you must act by year-end. Directly roll-over your required minimum

distribution (age 701/2 and above) to Roser and you will

• Avoid taxes on the distribution • Lower your Adjusted Gross Income (AGI)• Reduce taxes you pay on Social Security • Possibly reduce Medicare premiums

If you wish to proceed, please contact your IRA custodian and Jim Bennington, Roser Board of Stewardship & Finance Chairman or Matt in the Church office (941-778-0414) for additional details.

please note: Giving envelopes will be available in the Narthex on December 18. If you would prefer to give online, using debit or credit, go to the secure GIVE page at www.roserchurch.com or use the iPad in the Narthex to make recurring or one-time donations.
