FERC Proposes to Modernize PURPA Regulations
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) proposes to modernize its regulations governing small powerproducers and cogenerators under the Public Utility Regulatory Policies Act of 1978 (PURPA) to better address consumerconcerns and market changes in the energy landscape in recent decades. The September 19, 2019 Notice of ProposedRulemaking, constitutes the Commission's first comprehensive review of its PURPA regulations. The proposed changes

Southern States Energy BoardKentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet Secretary Charles Snavely and OEP Executive Director Rick Bender attendedthe Southern States Energy Board Annual Meeting in Louisville. The theme of the three-day event was Low CostEnergy: Foundation of a Manufacturing Renaissance.
National Association of State Energy OfficialsOEP Director Rick Bender, Kenya Stump and Amanda LeMaster attended the National Association of State EnergyOfficials Annual Meeting, September 15-18, 2019. Discussions included transportation electrification, building-gridintegration, and financing for energy innovation and infrastructure modernization.
Electric VehiclesKenya Stump presented September 13 to the East Kentucky Power Cooperative Electric Vehicle Workgroup on theVW Settlement, the Kentucky Public Service Commission Order on Electric Charging Stations and on electric school busopportunities in Kentucky

2019 Governor's Conference on Energy and Environment
Karen Reagor, Director of the Kentucky National Energy Education Development project, received the 2019 Energy Leadership Award for her leadership and contributions to energy education in Kentucky's K-12 schools. Read more.

Sustainable Spirits Summit 2019
Since 2011, the Division of Compliance Assistance, in collaboration with the Kentucky Distillers' Association, has been bringing members of the distillery, brewery and winery industries together via an annual Sustainable Spirits Summit. Facility managers and owners, environmental, health and safety professionals, representatives of the winery, distillery and brewery industries are encouraged to attend.
K-12 Energy Education Workshops
The Kentucky NEED (National Energy Education Development) Projectannounces four teacher workshops this fall. With support from grants awardedby the OEP, teachers receive free materials on energy that are aligned to theKentucky Academic Standards for Science and the Next Generation ScienceStandards.
