1 PROJECT OVERVIEW AND INSTITUTIONAL ARRANGEMENT
Lower Likhu Hydropower Project (LLHP) was identified by Swet Ganga Hydropower & Construction Ltd. (SGHCL). The project is a Run of River (RoR) type with its Headworks located on the right bank of Likhu River at Sirise Village of Saipu VDC, about 175 m upstream from the confluence of Pokali and Likhu River. The entire project area (Headworks to Powerhouse) is located in Saipu and Bijulikot VDCs of Ramechhap and Okhaldhunga District, Janakpur and Sagarmatha Zone, Central Development Region of Nepal (State no. 3).Geographically, the project area is located between longitudes 86015’38” E to 86013’17” E and latitude 27025’50” N to 27022’47” N. Geologically, the project area belongs to the Lesser Himalayas.
The project utilizes 118 m Gross Head and Design Discharge of 29.75 m3/s resulting into an installed capacity of 28.1 MW. The Annual Energy generation to PPA signed with Power Trade Department of Nepal Electricity Authority (PTD, NEA) and finalized to be 170.84 GWh, where the dry season energy contributes 30.94 GWh and Wet Season Energy contributes139.89 GWh.
The general arrangement of the project comprises weir, intake, undersluice, gravel trap, approach culvert, settling basin, headrace pipe, headrace tunnel, kholsi crossing (syphon arrangement), penstock, powerhouse and tailrace on the right bank of Likhu River. The power will be evacuated through 23 km long, 132 kV transmission line to proposed new Khimti substation at Devitar.
The project’s headworks area is accessible via two different road route. One from Kathmandu-Dhulikhel-Charikot-Nayapul-Dhobi-Sirise (227 km) and another from Kathmandu-Dhulikhel-Khurkot-Manthali-Dbi-Sirise (170 km). Manthali Bazar is the nearest city which is about 35 km from the proposed headworks area.
