The LSC men have a 36-14 overall record so far this season. In the NCAA South Central Region, the men’s teams are currently 5-4 combined versus Heartland Conference teams and 12-8 against the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The LSC women are 30-18 overall. The women’s squads are currently 12-6 combined against the Heartland, and 7-6 versus RMAC teams, which are the other conferences in the NCAA South Central Region. PLAYERS OF THE WEEK MEN’S OFFENSIVE David Chavlovich, West Texas A&M University, SO, Guard, Arlington, Texas, Bowie HS Chavlovich had another monster week for the Buffs as the sophomore guard led WT to three straight home wins over Science & Arts, Nova Southeastern and Emporia State to be named a member of the 2015 Pak-A-Sak WT Thanksgiving Classic All-Tournament team as the Buffs moved to 5-2 on the season. The Arlington native averaged 23.5 points per game as he went 22-of-42 (52.4 percent) from the floor including 13-of-28 (46.4) from deep and 13-of-16 (81.3) from the free throw line in three games with five rebounds, 13 assists, one block and three steals on the week. Tuesday night saw Chavlovich take 21 points into the locker room at the half against USAO as he finished with 29 total points followed by a 23 point performance against Nova Southeastern before ending the weekend with 18 against Emporia State to pick-up All-Tournament Team accolades. MEN’S DEFENSIVE Jamar Goodwin, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, SR, Guard, Dallas, Texas, Ennis HS Texas A&M-Kingsville went 2-0 with wins over Ouachita Baptist and CSU-Pueblo... Goodwin went 5-of-10 from the field with 14 points, three steals, four rebounds, a blocked shot and three assists in the win over the Tigers and followed with nine rebounds and two blocks and 10 points in the overtime win over the ThunderWolves, a team that upset No. 1 Tarleton State the night before... the Javelinas held opponents to 67 points per game to improve to 5-1 in 2015-16. WOMEN’S OFFENSIVE Lilley Vander Zee, West Texas A&M University, JR, Center, Granbury, Texas, Granbury HS Vander Zee had a breakout game for the Lady Buffs scoring a career-high 19 points and earning PAK-A-SAK Lady Buff Thanksgiving Classic Most Valuable Player honors. She went 7 of 10 from the field and 5 of 6 from the line, while pulling down a team-high seven rebounds with one assist and one steal in the Lady Buffs’ 90-57 win over Texas A&M-International Saturday improving to 5-0 on the year. WOMEN’S DEFENSIVE Erin Maxwell, Texas Woman’s University, JR, Center, Dallas, Texas, Ursuline, Academy HS Maxwell led the Pioneers’ defense with a team-best 8.0 rebounds and 3.0 blocks in the two wins last week. She helped TWU hold opponents to 49.5 points per game and a 31.0 field goal percentage. Maxwell recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds in a road win at East Central and then added 9 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks in a win against Henderson State. She has recorded four blocks in three of the six games this season and leads the Lone Star Conference with 17 blocks and 2.8 blocks per game. On the season, Maxwell is averaging 8.0 rebounds and 9.7 points. MEN’S OTHER TOP PERFORMERS EJ Reed, Tarleton State University, continues to lead No. 1 Tarleton in scoring, with the senior averaging 20.5 points over the week. Reed had a game-high 22 points and 10 rebounds against Colorado State-Pueblo, his fourth double-double of the year. Reed followed up with 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting against Ouachita Baptist. Reed had seven offensive rebounds and shot .652 for the week and is averaging 21.3 points on .672 percent shooting for the year. Stedman Allen, Angelo State University, was a constant for the Rams in it two victories over the Thanksgiving weekend. The senior forward dropped a team leading 40 points for ASU. He shot .667 from the field and from the line sinking 18-27 field goals and 4-6 foul shots. He pulled down 13 total boards with seven coming on offense and six on defense. Allen also added a steal to his defensive numbers. Jordan Stevens, Midwestern State University, scored 17 points a game leading Midwestern State to big wins over No. 3 Bellarmine (Ky.) and Southern Indiana last weekend at the Bill Joergens Memorial Classic in Evansville, Ind. The 6-foot senior Columbia, Mo. drilled four 3-pointers to finish with 14 points in a 77-71 win over Bellarmine on Friday then had 16 points and dished out five assists as MSU dealt Southern Indiana its first non-conference home loss since 2007-08 by an 86-69 margin. Stevens thumped the nets for a game-high 21 points in a loss to Colorado State-Pueblo earlier in the week at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. Anthony Adams, Texas A&M University - Commerce, led the Lions to a 1-1 week at the Holiday Inn-Airport Thanksgiving Classic over the weekend. Adams opened the tournament with 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the floor in the Lions 77-62 win over Western State. He knocked down two of his three three-point attempts in his 24 minutes of play. In game two, Adams again tallied 14 points in the Lions 76-85 loss to tournament host Colorado Mesa. Jordan Evans, West Texas A&M University, guided the Buffs to three wins this past week to run their win streak to four as the Houston native averaged 15.7 points per game to go along with 7.0 rebounds per contest to run WT’s record to 5-2 with wins over University of Science & Arts, Nova Southeastern and Emporia State to be named the MVP of the 2015 Pak-A-Sak WT Thanksgiving Classic. The sophomore guard went 15-of-34 (44.1%) from the floor including 9-of-26 (34.6%) from long range and a perfect 8-of-8 from the free throw line to go along with 21 total rebounds (three offensive, 18 defensive), five assists, one block and four steals in WT’s three wins. Friday’s matchup with NSU saw Evans go 7-of-14 from the floor and 4-of-11 from deep to register a career high 24 points to go along with seven rebounds in the contest. Bryant Crowder, Texas A&M University - Commerce, recorded six blocks in a single-game, one shy of the A&M-Commerce single-game record, in the Lions 77-62 win over Western State in game one of the Holiday Inn-Airport Thanksgiving Classic. Crowder’s single-game mark leads the LSC and is tied of the third highest mark in a single-game in the NCAA. He also hauled in nine rebounds in the win. In game two, an 85-76 loss to tournament host Colorado Mesa, Crowder tallied 11 points, three rebounds a blocked shot. JV Long, Cameron University, provided Cameron plenty of support from both ends of the court in their 2-1 week. The redshirt-freshman recorded 11 assists and four takeaways against Dallas Christian. His assist total at the time was the sixth most this season in NCAA Division II basketball and tied for the most out of the LSC. Additionally, his four steals is the most for an individual from CU in 19 contests. Long recorded a pair of assists against #5 ranked Drury but he nailed a fade-away jumper with three seconds to go to give the Aggies a 72-70 upset road win. On Saturday against Truman, Long had a one more steal, seven rebounds, five assists, and nine points. In his three games this week, Long shot 47.1% on the floor and averaged 7.7 points. After missing nearly two full seasons due to injuries, Long is fourth in the LSC in assists and third in steals. Khapri Alston, Midwestern State University, averaged a double-double while leading Midwestern State to a pair of big wins over No. 3 Bellarmine (Ky.) and Southern Indiana last weekend in the Bill Joergens Memorial Classic in Evansville, Ind. The 6-5 senior forward narrowly missed a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds in a 77-71 win over Bellarmine before notching his third double-double of the season finishing with 16 points and 10 rebounds as MSU dealt Southern Indiana its first non-conference home loss since 2007-08 by an 86-69 margin. Alston booked 17 points and a season-high 13 rebounds in a loss to Colorado State-Pueblo earlier in the week at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. For the week, he averaged 15.3 points and 10.7 rebounds in 25 minutes per game while shooing 55.6 percent from the field (15-of-27) and 80 percent from the charity stripe (16-of-20). Malcolm Hamilton, Tarleton State University, recorded his first-career double-double over the weekend with 16 points, 11 rebounds (all defensive) along with 3 steals in a win over Ouachita Baptist. The 11 rebounds were also a career high for the senior. Hamilton had 18 points and 8 rebounds and a season-high four assists against Colorado State-Pueblo. For the week, Hamilton averaged 17 points, a team-best 9.5 rebounds, 2 steals and 3 assists. Omari Gudul, Angelo State University, was a wall for the Rams defense in the pair of victories over the weekend. The senior amassed a team high seven blocks and nine defensive rebounds in two games. He also added a steal to his defensive numbers. The forward dropped in 17 points and pulled down eight offensive rebounds to aid the offensive efforts. The forward was 7-12 from the field and 3-4 from the line.

WOMEN’S OTHER TOP PERFORMERS Averie Mack, Tarleton State University, had an incredible performance off the Tarleton bench in Tuesday’s game against Texas A&M International. The sophomore from Abilene scored 19 points and grabbed 14 rebounds – both career highs – to record her first collegiate double-double. She is the first Tarleton player since Kiara Wright in 2011 to record a double-double off the bench against an NCAA opponent. She grabbed eight offensive rebounds and six defensive boards while also dishing out one assist. She also hit 11 of her 12 free throws. Brandi Leal, Cameron University, was nearly perfect on the floor against Texas A&M-International on Friday going 6-for-7. The senior from Amarillo, Texas nailed five treys and had 17 points in Cameron’s 77-58 victory. Leal has turned the corner after opening the season 4-for-18 from long range in CU’s first four games, she has gone 11-for-16 with the deep ball in the Aggies last two contests. In six games this season, Leal is averaging 2.7 three pointers and is shooting over 47% at the arc. Kenesha Saygo, Texas Woman’s University, helped the Pioneers to a 2-0 record with a team-best 14.5 points per game. She scored a game-high 19 points in a road win at East Central and then scored a team-high 10 points in a win against Henderson State. Saygo single-handedly outscored ECU 10-5 in the final two minutes to turn a two-point lead into a seven-point win. She also shot 47.6 percent from the floor and 80.0 percent from the free-throw line in the two games. TaSheena Moore, Texas A&M University - Kingsville, led the Javelinas to a 2-0 mark this week with wins over South Central Regional opponents St. Edward’s and UTPB... the Javelinas are 5-1 this season... she added 8 rebounds, nine turnovers and two steals in the two victories... the Javelinas have three games this week. KeAnna Kelly, Angelo State University, led the Belles to an 81-76 win over Missouri S&T. The sophomore scored a game high 16 points and hit 4-of-6 from the 3-point line. Kelly averaged 12.0 points per game during the St. Mary’s Thanksgiving Classic and hit five 3-pointers. She was a perfect 5-of-5 from the charity stripe and added five steals over the weekend. Sarah Stinnett, Eastern New Mexico University, poured in 12 points to pace the Greyhounds to an 80-69 win at New Mexico Highlands. She shot .385 from the floor, grabbed nine rebounds, dished out five assists and had two steals. Hannah Alexander, West Texas A&M University, came off the bench for 11 points, six rebounds on 5 of 8 shooting helping the Lady Buffs to a 90-57 win over Texas A&M-International Saturday in the PAK-A-SAK Lady Buff Thanksgiving Classic as the team improved to 5-0 on the year. Alexander’s six rebounds was good for second on the team as she had two steals tying for the team-lead. She pulled down a team-high four offensive rebounds. Alexander and the Lady Buffs held TAMIU to 39.6 percent shooting for the game and 32.1 percent in the second half. The 57 points was the fifth-straight game WT has held its opposition under 60 points. DJ Vallier, Cameron University, picked up her third career double-double at Cameron with 12 points and 10

LSC, CITY OF FRISCO TO HOST 2016 MEN’S BASKETBALL ELITE EIGHTThe NCAA awarded the 2016 Division II Men’s Basketball Elite Eight to the city of Frisco, Texas. The Lone Star Conference and Frisco Convention & Visitors Bureau will host the event March 23-24-26. The Elite Eight will take place in the state of Texas for the first time ever at Dr Pepper Arena, a multi-purpose sports and entertainment venue that seats about 5,000 for basketball.

Vallier also picked up a block and assisted in holding TAMUI to 35.3% shooting on the floor. Averie Mack, Tarleton State University, had an incredible performance off the Tarleton bench in Tuesday’s game against Texas A&M International. The sophomore from Abilene scored 19 points and grabbed 14 rebounds – both career highs – to record her first collegiate double-double. She is the first Tarleton player since Kiara Wright in 2011 to record a double-double off the bench against an NCAA opponent. She grabbed eight offensive rebounds and six defensive boards while also dishing out one assist. She also hit 11 of her 12 free throws. Johna McClelland, Eastern New Mexico University, paced a strong defensive effort which limited New Mexico Highlands to 69 points and a .338 shooting percentage. She grabbed five boards for the Hounds and blocked a pair of shots to lead Eastern to an 80-69 win. Jasmine Prophet, Angelo State University, led the Belles with three blocks and helped ASU hold teams to a .496 shooting clip. The Belles defeated Missouri S&T to 40.9-percent in the first half from the field and 25.0-percent from the 3-point line for the game. She grabbed four total rebounds and averaged 13.5 points per game.

MEN’S NOTES (Submitted by LSC SID’s)Angelo State The Rams went 2-0 over the holiday weekend defeating both Missouri Western State and Missouri S&T in the St. Mary’s Thanksgiving Classic. Offensively, Stedman Allen dropped a team leading 40 points for ASU. He shot .667 from the field and from the line sinking 18-27 field goals and 4-6 foul shots. He pulled down 13 total boards with seven coming on offense and six on defense. On defense Omari Gudul was a wall for the Rams defense in the pair of victories over the weekend. The senior amassed a team high seven blocks and nine defensive rebounds in two games. He also added a steal to his defensive numbers.

Midwestern State Midwestern State rebounded from is lone loss of the season Tuesday against Colorado State-Pueblo to beat No. 3 Bellarmine (Ky.) and Southern Indiana over the weekend at the Bill Joergens Memorial Classic in Evansville, Ind... The Mustangs improved to 10-10 against teams ranked in the NABC Division II Poll during the Nelson Haggerty era... MSU is 6-6 against teams ranked in the Top 10 since the start of the 2011-12 season... Bellarmine (Ky.) was ranked No. 1 in the D2 Media Poll heading into last week... The Mustangs handed Southern Indiana its first home loss against a non-conference opponent since Northwest Missouri defeated the Screaming Eagles in 2007-08 -- a span of 51 games... Senior guard Brandon Golden came alive to bury four 3-pointers to lead MSU with 16 points off of the bench in a 77-71 win over No. 3 Bellarmine on Friday the knocked down two triples to finish with 11 points against Southern Indiana... Senior forward DeVaughn Jones was a perfect 7-for-7 from the field to finish with a career-high 17 points with six rebounds Tuesday against Colorado State-Pueblo... Junior forwards Trevor Fuller (7 blocks) and Magnus Richards (5 blocks) combined to swat 12 shots over three games last week..

Tarleton State No. 1 Tarleton dropped its first game of the season on an overtime buzzer-beater against Colorado State-Pueblo. The Texans rebounded with a 16-point win against Ouachita Baptist to improve to 5-1 on the year. Tarleton is now 21-4 in the last five seasons after a loss and hasn’t lost two games in a row in 88 straight games. The Texans will take on Arlington Baptist on Dec. 1 at 7:30 p.m.

Texas A&M-Kingsville Texas A&M-Kingsville went 2-0 with wins over Ouachita Baptist and CSU-Pueblo... the Javelinas are now 5-1 in 2015-16, 3-1 in South Central Regional play and 2-0 in overtime games.

West Texas A&M The Buffs ran their win streak to four games this past week as they went 3-0 at home with a Tuesday night route of University of Science & Arts followed by a pair of wins during the 2015 Pak-A-Sak WT Thanksgiving Classic against Nova Southeastern and Emporia State to run their record to 5-2. WT had four players average in double-digits last week highlighted by Alll-Tournament Selections Rylan Gerber (11.), David Chavlovich (23.3) and MVP Jordan Evans (15.7). The Buffs averaged 89.0 points per game in their three wins last week as they shot 50.3% from the floor including 41.4% from deep and 75.3% from the charity stripe while also grabbing 37.3 rebounds per game and dishing out 62 total assists while holding opponents to a shooting percentage of 39% and just 62.3 points per game. The Buffs will hit the road on Tuesday night as they make the short trip to Goodwell, Oklahoma to take on the Aggies of Oklahoma Panhandle State with tipoff set for 7 p.m. at Oscar Williams Fieldhouse. The Aggies enter the week with an overall record of 3-0 with wins over Western New Mexico (twice) and Barclay College.

Eastern New Mexico The Eastern New Mexico University women’s basketball team charged to an early lead at New Mexico Highlands and never looked back, en-route to an 80-69 win. The game gave the Hounds their fifth road win over the Cowgirls in the last six tries. Eastern had a balanced offense against NMHU, with seven players scoring at least seven points. Sarah Stinnett led the way with 12 points, nine caroms, five assists and two steals. On Monday, Eastern will travel to Western New Mexico.

Tarleton State Tarleton dropped its only game of the week on Tuesday with a 67-60 road loss at Texas A&M International. Averie Mack had her first career double-double off the bench with 19 points and 14 rebounds to lead the effort for the TexAnns.

Texas A&M-Kingsville 2-0 last week.The Javelinas are now 5-1 this season after earning two regional victories last week in wins over St. Edward’s and UTPB... the Hogs have three games this week.

Texas Woman’s TWU won both games last week and improved to 4-2 on the season. The Pioneers defeated East Central, 53-46, on Tuesday and then captured a 73-53 victory over Henderson State on Saturday. Junior Kenesha Saygo scored a game-high 19 points in the win against ECU. She single-handedly outscored the Tigers 10-5 in the final two minutes to turn a two-point lead into a seven-point win. Saygo was also one of three players with a team-high 10 points against HSU. Junior Erin Maxwell recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds against ECU and then added nine points, eight rebounds and four blocks against HSU. On the season Saygo leads the team in scoring with 10.0 ppg while Maxwell is second with 9.7 ppg and first in rebounds with 8.0 rpg. Maxwell also leads LSC with 17 blocks.

West Texas A&M The #5/6 Lady Buffs improved to 5-0 on the year with 90-57 win over Texas A&M-International in the PAK-A-SAK Lady Buff Thanksgiving Classic this weekend...WT scored a season-high 90 points in the game and held TAMIU to 39.6 percent shooting and the 57 points allowed was the fifth-straight game of holding teams to under 60 points...Junior center Lilley Vander Zee had a breakout game for the Lady Buffs, scoring a career-high 19 points on 7 of 10 from the field and

She had seven assists with one steal in the contest as the Lady Buffs had a season-high five players scoring in double figures...The tournament was shortened as Minnesota State Moorhead was unable to make the trip to Canyon due to flight cancellations. Despite playing just one game, the Lady Buff offense finally came to life...TAMIU led 19-16 after the first quarter, but a 13-0 run by the Lady Buffs in three minutes in the second quarter changed the game completely as WT led by as many as 35 points late in the game...The Lady Buffs travel to Oklahoma Panhandle State and Oklahoma Christian this week, before a week off for finals and a game at home against Texas-Permian Basin Dec. 12 before a trip to Puerto Rico...UTPB defeated WT in the season-opener last year as the Lady Buffs were preseason No. 1 in the nation entering the game last season.
