Core Values:

Dear LSMC Family,

Happy Hospital Week! I hope every Lee’s Summit Medical Center employee and medical staff member feels especially proud as we honor you this week with activities and delicious food.

It was great to celebrate nurses’ week with so many fun activities last week. Lee’s Summit Medical Center has the best nurses! Our quality and patient satisfaction scores prove this. Thank you, nurses!

Quality honors are here again for Lee’s Summit Medical Center. Last week, The Leapfrog Group announced hospital

grades again. We are one of only two hospitals in the Kansas City metropolitan area to earn an “A”. In the previous two announcements, Lee’s Summit Medical Center was the only hospital in the Kansas City area to earn an “A” grade. The other hospital earning an “A” this time is University of Kansas Hospital. Please tell your coworkers how much you appreciate being a part of the teams here that are dedicated to the highest quality of patient care.

We’re honored to introduce several new physicians to our medical staff. You’ll see them pictured on pg. 4. More and more physicians want to join our staff and this is how we grow!

This month we’re launching the new Midwest Neuroscience Institute at Lee’s Summit Medical Center. Peter Basta, MD; Hamid Shah, MD; Geoffrey Blatt, MD; Jonathan Chilton, MD; and William Rosenberg, MD will be joining the medical staff to perform neurosurgery here. Dr. Basta and Dr. Shah begin seeing patients in our Medical Office Building, Suite #270 this week.

If you haven’t already done so, be sure to take the employee engagement survey. We are leading the division for the number of employees who have taken it! Your input helps in so many ways as we all work to provide the best quality care and the best patient experience.

Lee’s Summit Medical Center would like to lead the nation in employee engagement but most importantly we need your confidential, individual opinions.

Please take the opportunity this week to thank your coworkers for being a part of the best hospital and health system in the nation! I thank you!

Lagniappe /LAN-yap/: A little something extra.

Something Extra…Lee’s Summit Medical Center is continuing to transform healthcare by offering enhanced and convenient transfer services for emergent and/or specialized care not available in the community. The Lagniappe Transfer Center offers a little something extra beyond other transfer services. The service streamlines and enhances the transfer experience for referring hospitals and physicians. Most importantly, the simplified process is one more way we can help provide a positive experience for patients.

The Lagniappe Transfer Center offers a centralized point of access for all transfers. The complete transfer process – including arrangement of patient transportation – will be facilitated using a well-coordinated approach to facilitate transfers appropriately and efficiently to a higher level of care. The goal is to drastically reduce physician-to-physician communication time and arrange patient transportation. This offers fast, convenient access for patients with critical needs such as trauma, cardiac, surgical and stroke-related conditions, as well as to those with less urgent needs.

Have you ever wondered how we fund hospital improvements, like building projects and state-of-the-art equipment purchases?

What are “Capital Projects”?Capital projects are the “bricks and mortar” for the development and revitalization of Lee’s Summit Medical Center. The projects implemented by our capital program will shape the physical landscape of LSMC for generations, and will play an important role in the hospital’s long-term ability to deliver the critical services necessary to grow and serve our patients.

Funding for capital projects is drawn from designated capital dollars. A capital budget is the amount budgeted for the purchase of assets to either improve efficiency, quality or expand services. This is typically building/plant projects and new or replacement equipment costing over $1000. Operating budgets are annual budgets or monies used to fund the everyday operations of the hospital like paying salaries and benefits and buying supplies. Capital and operating budgets are managed separately but both are funded by the financial success of our hospitals.
