• PILS Definition: Any legal work done with a legal entity for which you were not compensated, billed for, or used as credit for an externship (including extra hours earned during the same semester as the externship) will count as pro bono.
• Students earning 50 or more hours throughout their tenure at LSU will receive cords at graduation, as well as recognition in the program and ceremony
• Rule 6.1 of Louisiana Rules of Professional Conduct defines Pro Bono Service for the Louisiana Bar Association and can be found at http://www.ladb.org/Publications/ropc.pdf
• 10+ hours earned in a year will automatically give you an invitation to the 1000 Hours Challenge Party

• Live Help Navigators: working with Southeastern Louisiana Legal Services, you will serve as an online connection directly helping the public navigate the www.LawHelp.org/la website to find the legal service appropriate to their needs
• Ask a Lawyer: working with area attorneys, you will assist with the interviewing of persons coming to the free walk-in legal clinic for legal assistance.
• Pro Se Help Desk: working at the Family Court, in the 19th JDC, you will assist pro se (self represented) litigants with the forms and information regarding their proceedings
• Law Clinic Help Desk: working with the LSU Law Center Law Clinic, you will help the public find legal resources in their community
• Thirst for Justice: working with the Baton Rouge Bar Association, you will help area attorneys to provide the underprivileged with the opportunity to consult with legal counsel
• Wills for Heroes: working with the Baton Rouge Bar Association to draft wills for “first responders” – police, firefighters, and paramedics
• Wills for Homeowners: working with Habitat for Humanity and local attorneys to draft wills for Habitat for Humanity homeowners

Equal Justice Works Career Fair and Conference
Your shot at a job or internship in public interest anywhere in the
country!
I don’t want to work for legal aid or the public defender. Why would I go to this?
• Fair enough– the lifestyles of public defenders or legal aid attorneys are not for everyone.
• However, the EJW Career Fair has employers from very diverse fields including private law firms (with private law firm paychecks), administrative agencies (with government benefits), and policy advocacy groups.
• Check out the full list of employers!
I’m in SO MUCH DEBT! I can’t afford to spend a weekend in Washington, D.C.!
• In addition to table talk and job interviews with potential employers, the Conference also has seminars on managing and FORGIVING student loan debt
• Furthermore, in the past LSU Law has provided stipends for students to travel to the conference for job interviews.
EJW Conference: October 26-27
• August 15–September 13: Registration for attendees seeking job interviews and application period (2Ls and 3Ls)
• September 14–October 11: Registration for those NOT seeking jobs (1Ls)
• September 20–October 4: Employers review applications and select those to interview
• October 11: Deadline for students to accept or decline interviews
Travel Stipend

Important Dates
• September 13: You MUST have registered for the conference and sent in your applications by this deadline
• September 28 at 4pm: You MUST have your stipend application into Susan by this deadline (eight days after the employers received your application)
Selection
• If there are more applicants than stipends available, we give preference to those with confirmed interviews (sorry 1Ls)
• Furthermore, you interest or experience in public interest law is extremely important in making these determinations
