Mobile Edge Computing enjoys strong industry momentum

Standardization

Co-founded by Nokia in October 2014, the ETSI

Industry Specification Group for Mobile Edge

Computing grew from an initial 6 to over 40 members

in less than a year.

Wide ecosystem support

The group is composed of leading telecom operators,

network infrastructure vendors, IT/middleware

vendors, independent software vendors OTTs.

Use case proliferation

Members of the group (as well as other companies)

continuously deliver new use cases that exploit the

benefits of edge computing.

Summary - we implement elements of 5G today

Mobile Edge Computing technology can be used for

vehicle-to-vehicle communications allowing latencies

below 20ms which is particularly important for traffic

safety applications.

Existing LTE networks can be upgraded to support

Vehicle-to-X communications with relatively low

investment.

LTE with Mobile Edge Computing can complement

ITS-G5. Both can form a comprehensive

communications infrastructure on the way to improved

traffic safety and autonomous driving.
