In this movie, there are two coexisting worlds. One “above the table”, where shady grownups feast mindlessly and an other one “below the table” where children live an adventurous and exciting life.
Art dept. budget: 700 €
“Above The Table”
For this set, the room and four tables were set-up to look reminiscing of an old opu-lence, now grotesque and worn out.
![Page 7: Lucas Kratochwil - Portfolio](https://reader030.vdocuments.net/reader030/viewer/2022020203/58ee16e01a28ab567b8b4601/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
“Below The Table”
For this set, oversized tables where built, below which, the children live in a warm, colorful and magic world.

Nachtlicht
In this film, two characters enter a room and must tell an emotional story. A third character inter-rupts them and they have to start all over, but get-ting closer to an objective version of their story.
Each time they start over, a “shadow” grows from ev-ery corner of the room, growing bigger and bigger as the emotional tension rises.
To film this in 3 days, we shot the film backwards trimming the “shadow structure” between scenes.
Art dept. budget: 1200 €

Set Design
The set was designed using handmade draughts, and accurate CAD models.
![Page 19: Lucas Kratochwil - Portfolio](https://reader030.vdocuments.net/reader030/viewer/2022020203/58ee16e01a28ab567b8b4601/html5/thumbnails/19.jpg)
Set
The set was built in the Vienna Filmakadmie’s studio. It covered 30m2 and adding the walls it had 140m2 of surface.
The corners of the room were covered with ta-pered surfaces to emphasize the vertical per-spective.
It featured a 8m long movable wall, that switched bethween the day and night scenes of the film.
![Page 20: Lucas Kratochwil - Portfolio](https://reader030.vdocuments.net/reader030/viewer/2022020203/58ee16e01a28ab567b8b4601/html5/thumbnails/20.jpg)
Props
Every prop on set was either out of scale or perspectively distorted. The majority had to be custom-built.
the most challenging ones were an analog moon that “appeared” on one wall during night scenes. And the giant light switch which turned the night on and off.

“Daydreamer”, is an Austrian short film about street children play-ing during the Serbian wars in the early 90s. Two realities coexist, one where the children are playing and a second one where the “games” are being carried out by real sol-diers in a real war.
Art dept. budget: 400 €
The toys they play with remi-nisce toys from the 40s, look worn out and handcrafted from scrap materials. The color palette consists of shades of brown and grey with silver details.
The sets are located in rural meadows abundant in trees and high vegetation. the color palette consists of dark greens, sky blue, golden and warm browns.
For the children reality, the costumes look worn out, patched up, and oversized.
The color palette includes shades of warm brown, black, olive green and aged white.

The sets are located in a mountain area abundant in trees, bushes and rocky cliffs.
