2012Chengdu, Sichuan, ChinaAppointed project with Hanjia Design groupOffice, hotel, shops125 000 m²
The Chuan Shang Towers competition was won by Hanjia Design group in 2011. In 2012, the government modified the building regulations for the area of the project; the construction’s maximum hei-ght was adjusted from 150 meters to 70 meters.
In spite of this requirement, the area and scope of the project remained and consequently, the project, which was composed of three towers higher than 100 meters needed to be fully redesigned.
Respecting those new rules and the client’s needs, there were not many possibilities left and resulted in massive volumes difficult to reconcile with the site and the context.
Facing this design challenge, the solution was to cut the buildings horizontally into slices of different sizes utilizing facade materials to create feelings of super-position and small simple volumes that as well resulted in generating further smaller scale outside spaces for the offices.

The extension includes 190 rooms with facilities and inclu-des a new entrance and lobby that are connected to the existing building at the upper levels. The design of the shopping mall and office tower faca-des enclose the site creating a green park area for the hotel and protection from the street.

Located in the historic city centre, south of Montpellier for more than 100 years the Military School (EAI) is scheduled to close its doors and the site redeveloped.
This site of 300 000 m² has been hermetic and is now destined to turn into a massive void in the urban fabric without any function or link with the rest of the city. Due to its size, its ideal location in the city and its residential character, the developement plan from the city council requires a complex brief which includes plans for an Art Center.
Located on one of the main entrance to the city along the public parc, nearby the historic center and directly served by the new tramway line, the Pol-dert Art Center is designed to become a landmark.
The Poldert Center will offer cultural facilites and promote creation to locals and visitor. The aim of this project is to create a porous art space; turning old mi-litary sheds into creation workshops, and using the public parc as an outside extension for exhibition

Walking through the gap of the perforated steel facade, visitors will cross and arrive into a cove-red public space.
The covered public space will include a museum, shops, restaurants. Even if the exhibitions are closed, the design offers many possibilities for outside people to have partial views of the life inside the museum.
Spatially, the museum is based on black boxes ran-domly disposed which create various intermediate spaces. This design offers many different possibilities to artists to create and exhibit their work.

The visitor doesn’t need to follow a marked road but can evolve freely inside and between the volumes to create his own architectural and artistic walk.
The whole project -the open public plaza and the ex-hibition area- is covered and unified with a double skin made of perforated weathering steel.
From the outside, this material contributes to the feeling of porosity of the building, offers protection from the strong sunshine of the south of France and aids natural ventilation. From the inside, it creates a unique and light atmosphere.

In the dense urban context, public space becames an essential component of the city. It’s the place of the social life; the place for meeting, sharing, expressing his opinion...the place of freedom . In the same time, public space is the image of the local peo-ple. It gives us a strong opinion of a community, a society. Nevertheless, this space tend to be more and more «private». It looses its original function to become just a space between shops.
Considering this situation in the city of Sendai, the topic of this project is to create a free evolutiv public space representing the users of this area. Here is the idea of appropriation of our public space.

Considering this situation in the city of Sendai, the topic of this project is to create a free evolutiv public space representing the users of this area. Here is the idea of appropriation of our public space.
Taking inspiration from collaborativ internet web-sites (blog, myspace, facebook...), this project consist into a system made of 2 elements that can be assem-ble in several ways to create many spaces and urban situations.
As an urban blog, the space becomes the expression of the users. It’s the base for people’s creativity and self expression in a public area

Extended beyond its original fortifications, the historical city of Carcassonne is expanding and consequently, limits between city and nature aren’t obvious anymore.
The Capucin neighbourhood, where the project ta-kes place, is one of those ‘in-between’ areas ; between «Nature» and «Culture».The objective of the design was to create an interface between these two elements.
The design strategy is one of metamorpho-sis of the existing elements from the site into archi-tectural shapes - a kind of rationalisation of nature.
The result of this is a Hybrid architecture, generated by natural and cultural codes. This urban hybrid is an alternative solution for borderline developments that grow from the potential of the site and make a soft transition between city and nature.

This project is building of 18 appartments in the first ring surrounding the historic center of Montpellier. Main topics were south of france lifestyle, outside spaces...
The proposal is base on the principe of diging a volume. In other worlds, how to create space and organisation using creation of gaps.
This concept creates solutions for the program. It also al-lows a dialogue between inside and outside. All this makes free inside spaces, link with the outside, and modulable de-pending to special needs of dailylife.

A private client purchased a site with an existing bungalow in poor condition. The site has panoramic views overlooking a river and moorings for sailboats destined for the English channel.
As a developer, the client had already rebuilt the lower part of the site in stone, with a road and underground accomodation built into the side of the hill.
The design strategy was to retain this lower acco-modation and drive, demolish the existing bunga-low and to create a new contemporary residence ontop of this stone base.
Ludovic Bacon _ Architecture Portfolio 45Ludovic Bacon _ Architecture Portfolio44
The program for the residence included an indoor swimming pool which should be as long as possi-ble and integration of the house with lower and upper garden areas.
The design strategy was initially developed from section studies considering the use of the topo-graphy of the site and a desire to integrate the building with the landscape.
The entrance gallery and 20 meter pool became primary elements of the design. Arrival and pas-sage through the house was integrated with the fall of the existing hill and key views to the pool and the surrounding landscape, reinforcing the families connection with the home and its sur-roundings. In addition, the swimming pool protects the back garden from the cold east wind and provides in-timacy and both the pool and living spaces can also be totally opened onto the garden spaces in the summer.

This project is a small kiosk which promote local pro-ducts, located in the Cres lake area, nearby Montpel-lier. This place which used to be a quarry became an artificial lake, used as a leisure place by many people during the summer.
The main objectiv of the design was to integrate as much as possible the project in the landscape. Trying to «erase» the architecture.Limits between inside and outside are vague. The kiosk is just a windows on the landscape which is pro-tecting the user from the summer sun and wind, and collecting rainwater.
The project is just a second skin and enables people to enjoy the site.

Origami ( from Oru, folding, and Kami, paper ) is the japanese name given to the ancestral art of folding paper.
It’s a mathematic and geometric princip which was a source of inspiration for many field of research, as architecture or furniture design.
The AkkordeonTisch is a modulable coffee table which is the result of an experiment and work with the formal and structu-ral possibilities of folding paper. Based on the princip of accordion, this furniture can be trans-formed from a plate object (easy to put away) to a small, me-dium or large coffee table.

In june and August 2007, I was selected to be a part of the construction team of the Paper bridge, designed by Shi-geru Ban, in cooperation with the dutch engineer office Octa-tube. I participated to the whole process, from the fundaments till the end of the construction.
The temporary cardboard bridge in the south of France, has a span of 20 meters and is build up by 280 cardboard tubes, each with a diameter of 115mm and a thickness of 19mm. The steps are made of recycled paper and plastic.
The bridge has been exposed to the public for 2 months during a cultural event. It is located only a short dis-tance away of the famous Roman aquaduct Pont du Gard in France. Every summer the cardboard structure is installed and disassembled again.
Japanese architect Shigeru Ban is internationally renowned for his ingenious applications of cardboard in temporary and permanent structures.
