TestThe test is based on the DLG Test Regulations "Spreaders for organic solids" and the German standard DIN EN 13080 "Manure spreaders; Environmental protection – Requirements and test methods" of February 2003.

Collection trays (50 cm x 50 cm x 10 cm) are arranged flush next to each other crossways to the direc-tion of travel on the trial field in order to determine the lateral dis-tribution. The spreader carries out altogether three passages through the measuring section. The amount of material caught in the trays is

standing throughout the complete discharge of a load. The data are used to calculate the characteristic values of constant distribution rate, percentage elongation within the tolerance zone, cv at optimal over-lap and the optimal overlap.

Starting from the 50 % line of constant distribution rate, the cv value at optimal parallel tracking with the next load is determined.

The smaller the cv and the larger the tolerance zone, the better the distribution quality is.

weighed and used to calculate the basic spreading pattern for the unit area. The cv value for the lateral distribution defines the distribution accuracy for the area after further spreading passages (for tramline passages). It is evident from the resulting course of the cv values whether the admissible cv thres h old is undercut and in what area the optimal working widths (lowest possible cv) are achieved.

To determine the longitudinal dis-tribution, the mass flow is meas-ured via continuous measuring of the axle and support loads when

Brief description of the vehicleThe firm Ludwig Bergmann GmbH – Maschinenfabrik offers the uni-versal spreader TSW 2120 as a single-axle and as a tandem-axle vehicle. A spreader with a tandem axle was available for the DLG test.

The principal technical data of the tested spreader (supplied by the manufacturer) are:

10 t manure/ha

For a working width of 12 metres and a spreading rate of 10 t ma-nure/ha, a variation coefficient (cv) of 15.3 % was achieved. Figure 4 shows the basic spreading pattern (quantity distribution per passage) and the overall spreading pattern. The latter shows the final area coverage after further tramline passages.

Figure 5 shows the dependence of the variation coefficient on the working width in graphic terms. It is evident from the course of the cv line that the cv for working

widths of up to approx. 16 metres is below 20 %. For the longitudinal distribution, at a spreading rate of 10 t manure/ha a cv of 17.5 % was determined at optimal overlap. The percentage elongation within the tolerance zone here is 50.2 %.

30 t manure/haFor a working width of 12 metres and a spreading rate of 30 t ma-nure/ha, a variation coefficient (cv) of 11.6 % was achieved. Figure 7 shows the basic spreading pattern (quantity distribution per passage) and the overall spreading pattern.

The latter once again shows the final area coverage after further tramline passages.

Figure 8 shows the dependence of the variation coefficient on the working width in graphic terms. It is evident from the course of the cv line that the cv for working widths of up to approx. 15 metres is below 20 %.

For the longitudinal distribution, at a spreading rate of 30 t manure/ha a cv of 15.7 % was determined at optimal overlap. The percentage elongation within the tolerance zone here is 46.1 %.

Figure 14 shows the dependence of the variation coefficient on the working width in graphic terms. It is evident from the course of the cv line that the cv is at its optimum for a working width of 10 meters and that for working widths of ap-prox. 13 metres is below 20 %.

For the longitudinal distribution, at a spreading rate of 25 t compost/ha a cv of 16.8 % was determined at optimal overlap. The percentage elongation within the tolerance zone here is 44.9 %.

a spreading rate of 5 t compost/ha a cv of 17.4 % was determined at optimal overlap. The percentage elongation within the tolerance zone here is 43.4 %.

25 t compost/ha

For a working width of 10 metres and a spreading rate of 25 t com-post/ha, a variation coefficient (cv) of 13.4 % was achieved. Figure 13 shows the basic spreading pattern (quantity distribution per passage) and the overall spreading pattern. Test

11-220April 2012© DLG

On the basis of the DLG Test Regulations "Spreaders for organic Solids", the manure spreader TSW 2120 Tandem from Ludwig Berg-mann GmbH Maschinenfabrik was tested for accuracy of manure dis-tribution with target spreading rates of 10 t/ha and 30 t/ha and accuracy of compost distribution with targetspreading rates of 5 t/ha and 25 t/hain the DLG FokusTest in May 2011.

The requirements made of distri-bution quality for spreading manure and compost in the DLG Test Regulations were satisfied and the DLG test label "DLG FokusTest Distri bution Quality Manure and Compost 09/11" was awarded.

For spreading manure, the already good distribution quality with the basic setting at a working width of 12 m was improved further by one optimising step. Optimising the settings also led to improved spreading results for spreading compost with a working width of 10 metres. Altogether good distri-bution qualities were achieved with both spreading materials.
