His Death

• Luigi Pirandello left instructions for his funeral, but the church did not believe in cremation and the Fascist party did not want a world-famous fascist to slip away naked, without his black shirt.

• Died in his Roman apartment having his ashes transferred to his birthplace. Where they rest under a solitary pine tree.

• Thus, against his wishes, Pirandello was given a state funeral.
