General InformationLUKOIL is a major international vertically integrated oil & gas company, accounting for 2.2% of global crude oil output.

LUKOIL was established in 1991 by incorporating a group of oil-and-gas production companies located in the western Siberian cities of Langepas, Urai and Kogalym. The initial letters of these cities were derived to form the acronym LUK.

LUKOIL, one of the world’s largest oil companies, operates on the principle “From the wellhead Down to the Gas Station,” meaning that it is active in oil production, refining, wholesale and retail sale of petroleum products.

The Company’s marketing network encompasses 22 countries worldwide, including Russia, CIS countries (Ukraine, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova), EU countries (Finland, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Latvia, Croatia, Estonia, Belgium, Cyprus), Turkey, Serbia, Macedonia, Montenegro and the United States. The company accounts for 1.0% of global oil reserves and 2.2% of global oil production.

LUKOIL’s operations are organized into three business segments: Exploration and Production (E&P), Refining, Marketing and Distribution and Petrochemicals.

The E&P segment includes exploration, development and production operations relating to crude oil and natural gas. These activities are located primarily within Russia, with additional activities based in Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, the Middle East, Colombia and Northern and western Africa.

The Refining, Marketing and Distribution segment includes refining and transport operations, as well as marketing and trading of crude oil, natural gas and refined products. LUKOIL runs four main oil refineries in Russia with a combined refining capacity of approximately 45.1 mln t and refineries outside Russia (Odessa (Ukraine), Burgas (Bulgaria), Ploiesti Refinery (Romania), Helsinki (Finland) and Izmir (Turkey)).

The company is focused on increasing product volume exported as well as expanding geographical diversity. LUKOIL’s retail network spans 30 countries, including Russia, the Baltic States, the CIS and Europe. In December 2010 we commissioned a catalytic cracking facility at our Nizhny Novgorod refinery, the largest catalytic cracking facility built in Russia for the last 25 years, enabling production of gasoline which is fully compliant with Euro-5 standards.

LUKOIL’s petrochemical business is the largest in Russia and Eastern Europe. LUKOIL has four major petrochemical plants producing various pyrolysis and organic synthesis products, fuel fractions and polymer products.

The production and sale of oils and lubricants plays an important part in LUKOIL’s business. In 2005 LLK-International (LUKOIL Lubricants), a wholly owned subsidiary of LUKOIL, was formed and lubricants were spun off as a standalone business unit. LUKOIL Lubricants has become a unified responsibility center for this business segment, which allows LUKOIL to consolidate accounting and ensure unbiased evaluation of financial performance, react to market fluctuations, improve and develop lubricant production, conduct research and optimize lubricant marketing.

LUKOIL Lubricants produces a wide array of products that meet the most advanced operating requirements and specifications of both Russian and foreign vehicle and equipment manufacturers. This array includes base oils (used as inputs for production of ready-to-use oils and lubricants) and industrial oils for use in factory equipment, as well as motor and transmission oils for all types of transport.

Today LUKOIL Lubricants controls the manufacture of more than 40% of all lubricants produced in Russia, amounting to around 1.3 mln t and markets these products in more than 40 countries across the globe.

LUKOIL Lubricants commands extensive resources enabling it to develop advanced technologies for the manufacture of lubricants and additives. At its inception, the company set up the Science and New Technology Department in charge of developing know-how technologies and the formula for new types of high quality lubricants, which advanced engineering requires. This work is performed by company specialists in close cooperation with Russian and leading world scientific organizations. By investing in science, LUKOIL Lubricants aims to enhance the quality of its product line and boost consumer demand for those products.

LUKOIL LUBRICANTS EAST EUROPE was set up in 2007, as a consequence of the territorial expansion policy of Lukoil Lubricants OOO, the goal being that this company should become one of the biggest integrators on the Romanian and European lubricating oil markets.

The main object of activity of the company is lube oil production, marketing and distribution both on the Romanian market and on Central Europe and Balkan markets.

Some of the most important markets for our products are, first of all, the countries where the LUKOIL Group is present (Bulgaria, Serbia, Hungary, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Republic of Moldova, Ukraine, Poland, Belgium, the Baltic Countries, Montenegro, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Turkey), but also other markets like Italy, Slovenia, Slovakia, etc.

In Romania, the marketing and distribution activity is performed through direct and indirect sales channels, by means of traders, dealers and the filling stations from the LUKOIL ROMANIA network.

Product portfolio includes over 400 products, lubricating oils, greases and waxes which cover the most important industrial branches and agriculture, but mainly the car manufacturing industry and the commercial vehicle fleets.

LUKOIL LUBRICANTS EAST EUROPE is the main integrator in the local lubricating oil business: the blending plant located in Ploiesti is the biggest in the country, having a capacity of 40,000 tons per year. The modernization of the production plant purchased from Petrotel started in the spring of 2007, when the company invested over USD 3 million to purchase filling and packing lines, laboratory equipment and packaging upgrading. At the end of 2009 started the construction of the new blending plant, as a consequence of the investment development and modernization policy.

The new oil plant is modular and fully automated and it guarantees lube oil production at the highest quality level, meeting the highest standards of the industry organizations – API, ACEA. At the same time, by means of a continuous cooperation with the most important manufacturers of cars and commercial vehicles, their newest approvals were obtained for LUKOIL lubricants.
