Lumding College is situated in the heart of Lumding town in the district of Hojai in the stateof Assam. It is one of the oldest colleges in this remote part of the country. The college was
established on 14th August, 1959 by a group of visionary academicians, patriots and philan-thropists who aspired for the growth of higher education in the small town of Lumding. Since its
inception, the college had struggled through difficult phases of hardship to achieve its presentstatus. The college was taken under the deficit system of grant-in-aid by the Govt. of Assam on
1st December, 1972. It was provincialised by the Govt. of Assam on 1st December, 2005.
Today, Lumding College offers Higher Secondary as well as Three Year Degree (TDC)courses in three streams: Arts, Science and Commerce. It is affiliated to Assam Higher Sec-
ondary Education Council (AHSEC) and Gauhati University (GU) respectively. Apart from these,it also offers some professional and self-financing courses. Today, it has an enrollment of more
than 2000 students from diverse backgrounds who create a vibrant atmosphere in the collegecampus. The students have been producing remarkable results in academics as well as co-
curricular activities with the guidance and encouragement of very dedicated faculty members.The college has also produced students who have managed to achieve top positions in the final
examinations.
Lumding College was accreditated by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council
(NAAC) with B+ grade in 2004. It is preparing itself for the second cycle of NAAC accreditationwhich is scheduled to be held very soon. It gives utmost importance to enhance the quality of
higher education by considering the needs and expectations of each and every student. It hasspacious classrooms, well-equipped science laboratories, a rich library with internet facilities,
free Wi-Fi facility, a Conference room, a central computer room, a Northeast Heritage Centre, atwo-storeyed girls hostel, well-furnished separate common rooms for boys and girls, a canteen
with hygienic food. Adequate facilities for games and sports, amenity for safe drinking waterand a vehicle shed. It is in the process of constructing smart classrooms for advanced teaching-
learning process.
The fraternity of Lumding College also considers the aspirations of people who could notpursue higher education due to various reasons. It has opened a study centre of the K.K. Handiqui
State Open University which offers degree programmes such as BA, B.Sc., B.Com., BBA andBCA in the Distance mode. It has also opened a contact centre of the Institute of Distance and
Open Learning (IDOL), Gauhati University in the campus which helps in pursuing various post-graduate programmes in the Distance mode.
The college is a green campus with a beautiful ambience. It is near the Kalibari bus stop
and is one km from the Lumding Railway Junction. Auto-rickshaw services are available roundthe clock within the town. It is easily accessible from all parts of the town which is connected by
road and rail links with the rest of India.

i) Statistics is not allowed without Mathematics.
ii) Statistics-Geology combination is not allowed.
iii) It is desirable that students intending to offer Physics/Chemistry as elective subjects
offer Mathematics also as one of the elective subjects.
iv) Additional Subject will not be allowed to those who have secured less than 40% marks
on aggregate in HSLC or equivalent exam.
v) A student can offer four subjects as his / her combination, but the subject in which he /
she secures lowest marks in the Final Examination would be treated as his / her 4th

NOTE :-1) A—1st and 2nd Semester.
i) English is compulsory for students of BA/B.Sc. (Major/General Course). But, studentshaving Major in English will have to take Different English paper in lieu of General En-glish.
ii) There is no MIL/Alt. Eng. for B.Sc. students.iii) For BA Major/General Course, a student shall have to choose two subjects (at least one
subject must be Non-Language) in addition to MIL/Alt. Eng. Out of two, one subject maybe taken as Major subject. Then other subject will be considered as 1st subsidiary sub-ject and MIL/Alt. Eng. is taken as 2nd subsidiary subject. Again, in case of General Course,the two subjects (other than MIL/Alt. Eng.) will be considered as 1st Elective and 2ndElective subject

NOTE :-(i) Students will have to study 'Environmental Studies' as a compulsory subject in TDC Sec-
ond Year in all the three streams - Arts, Science & Commerce.
(ii) There is a provision for allocation of marks for internal assessment in every paper. Thedetails of the course structures & contents will be intimated to the students in the classes bythe teachers concerned.
Medium of Instruction :Medium of instruction for the courses offered in the college shall be English exceptfor MIL and Advanced Languages.

1. A TDC shall be of Six Semesters covering three Calendar Years. The schedule for Semester
system shall be as shown below :
a) First, Third and Fifth Semester : July 16- December 31
(including examination)
b) Second, Fourth and Sixth Semester : January 1 - June - 15
(including examination)
c) Semester Break : June 16 - July 15.
The Academic Calendar and schedule for Semester System is given in Annexure - I. Course
Structure under Semester System given in Annexure - II.
2. Students performance should be monitored throughout the Semester by continuous
assessment in the theory and practical courses. Evaluation of the Students performance in each
of the theory paper will be based on the following :
Internal Evaluation : 20% Marks
External Evaluation : 80% Marks
3. Internal Evaluation should be based on sessional examination, home assignments,
Seminars, and library work in each Semester. The schedule for internal evaluation is given in
Annexure-I. the procedure for internal evaluation is given in Annexure-III.
4. External Evaluation should be through a final examination at the end on the Semester. The
procedure for external evaluation is given in Annexure-IV.
5. The pass marks in each theory paper is 30% and that in each practical paper is 40%.
6. In each paper, students must secure pass mark in combined total of internal and external
evaluation.
7. A student who could not appear or fails in any Semester examination will be allowed to clear the
same as follows :
a) First Semester with the regular Third Semester examination.
b) Second Semester with the regular Fourth Semester examination.
c) Third Semester with regular Fifth Semester examination.
SEMESTER SYSTEM : AT A GLANCE

8. A student may be allowed to "repeat" any one of the Major theory papers in the First, Second,
Third Semester.
9. No "repeat" shall be allowed in 4th, 5th and 6th Semester.
10. A student must pass all his Semester examinations, within five years from the date of admission
to the First Semester course. A student will get a maximum of three chances to clear a particular
Semester.
11. In case of any dispute regarding evaluation or unforeseen events the matter may be placed in the
Committee of Courses and Studies (U.G.) for amicable settlement.
12. Since the Semesters involve continuous assessment there would be no scope for a student to
appear as a private/non collegiate candidate in any subject.
13. No college transfer of students be allowed except in case of parents service transfer.
14. For any matter not covered under this Regulation for semester System the existing University
Rules and the Gauhati University Act 1949 (as amended till date) should be applicable.

ADMISSION PROCEDURE :
(A) Eligibility for Admission - Higher Secondary :
Candidates who have passed the HSLC Exam. of the Board of Secondary Education,
Assam or any other equivalent Exam. recognised by the Assam Higher Secondary
Education Council (AHSEC) are eligible for admission to Higher Secondary First Year
course provided that :
(i) A candidate seeking admission to HS Science must have secured at least 50% marks
on aggregate and at least 50% marks in both General Science and General
Mathematics individually in the HSLC or its equivalent Exam.
(ii) Candidates belonging to SC, ST, OBC, MOBC and physically challenged categories
are entitled to a relaxation of 5% of marks for admission to HS Science course.
(iii)Students, who wish to take up Economics, Mathematics and Statistics as combination,
must have secured at least 45% marks on aggregate and 50% marks in Mathematics in
HSLC or its equivalent Examinations. They will be allowed to take only CSA as 4th
subject. Students declared to have passed HS First Year Exam. by the college / AHSEC,
Assam, are eligible for admission to HS Second Year.
THREE-YEAR DEGREE COURSE :
1) TDC 1st Year (1st Semester and 2nd Semester)
a) For admission to TDC 1st Semester Class a candidate must have passed
the Higher Secondary Final examination of AHSEC or any other equivalent
examination recognized by Gauhati University.
b) A student seeking admission to B. Com course may be from Science or Commerce
stream in the H. S. Level.
c) A student seeking admission to B.A. course may be from Arts, science or commerce
stream in the H. S. level.
d) A student seeking admission to B. Sc course must be from the science stream at the
H. S. level. However, a student having Economics, Statistics & Mathematics as com-
bination in H.S. (Arts) may opt for B.Sc. (Economics, Statistics & Mathematics).
2) Admission to 2nd Year (3rd and 4th Semesters) of B.A., B.Sc. and B.Com. is open to all
those students who have completed the course of study of 1st and 2nd semesters of B.A.,
B.Sc. and B.Com. of G.U. respectively.

3) Admission to 3rd Year (5th and 6th semesters) of BA, B.Sc., B.Com is open to all those
students who have completed the course of study of 3rd and 4th Semesters of B.A., B.Sc.
and B.Com. of GU respectively.
4.) Criteria for admission to Major Courses are as follows :
(i) At least 40% of marks on the aggregate and also in the subject concerned in the H. S.
Final or its equivalent examination. (only Theory)
(ii) The major in Botany and Zoology will be offered on the basis of the marks obtained in
Botany and Zoology respectively in the subject Biology. However, where the Botany
and Zoology marks are not shown separately then major in Botany/Zoology will be of-
fered on the basis of rule (i)
(B) Guidelines for Admission :
1. Application form and prospectus may be obtained from the college office on payment of
Rs. 130/- in any working day.
2. Application form duly filled in and accompanied by the attested copies of all the relevant
testimonials and documents must reach the college on or before the last date as notified.
Incomplete forms and applications received after the last date shall be rejected.
3. Admission is given purely on the basis of merit and is subject to the regulations of AHSEC/
GU.
4. The decision of the Admission Committee regarding admission will be final. The Admis-
sion Committee will, as need be, stipulate and notify supplementary guidelines
regarding restrictions in respect of combination of subjects and criteria of eligibil-
ity for admission.
5. Applicants must appear in person before the Admission Committee for interview and ad-
mission at the appointed time and date. Candidates selected must get themselves admit-
ted on the very day of interview by making necessary payments, failing which they may
forfeit their claim.

6. Documents that must be produced in original at the time of Admission :
a) Marksheet of the last qualifying examination.
b) Certificate from the Head of the Institution last attended.
c) Certificate / Admit Card of the HSLC Exam. for age proof.

e) Migration Certificate (for students migrating from a Board / Council / University other that
AHSC/GU) with a photocopy of the same and transfer certificate (for students coming on
transfer from other institutions)
f) Gap Certificate from a Govt. Gazetted Officer (for candidates who passed the qualifying
Exam. earlier than the current year.)
g) Two copies of recent stamp size photograph.
h) Anti-Ragging undertaking.
7. The college reserves the right to refuse admission to any applicant without assigning any
reason.
8. In case of submission of fake documents or suppression of material facts or the furnishing
of incorrect information by a candidate, detected even after admission, his/her admission
shall stand cancelled.

1. An admission to the college carries with it the presumptions that students will conduct them-selves as responsible members of the Academic Community. Every student should behavewith discipline and must reflect a sense of responsibility within and outside the collegecampus. Academic misconduct as well as behavioural misconduct is strictly prohibited andany student indulging in the same shall face strict disciplinary action.
2. Each student must abide by all the rules and regulations prescribed by the College Author-ity from time to time.
3. Ragging is strictly prohibited and any student found indulging in ragging in any form, directlyor indirectly will be liable to strict disciplinary action.
4. Student without Uniform and Identity Card will not be allowed to attend classes. Studentshould wear the Identity Card round the neck while on the campus.
5. Student must not loiter and talk loudly in the corridor while the classes are on.
6. Regular attendance in classes is strictly compulsory. A student having attendance less than75% the requisite percentage as laid down by Gauhati University in any subject will not besent up for the final Exam. or will be declared non-collegiate as the case may be.
7. Change of subjects in case of HS 1st Year and TDC 1st Year classes will not be allowedafter 15 days from the commencement of regular classes.
8. Except College Canteen, boys' & girls' common room, the use of mobile phone by thestudents inside the college campus is strictly prohibited. Violation of the rule will attractdisciplinary action.
9. Students residing in hostel must abide by the rules and regulations of the hostel.

1. Scholarship Facility :Applications for scholarship from students belonging to special categories will be forwardedto the State Govt. or other agencies for consideration.
2. Students' Aid Fund :The college provides for a 'Students' Aid Fund' out of which considerable financial assis-
tance is extended to the poor students.

3. Travelling Concession Facility :
The students can avail themselves of the facility of the travelling concession in connection
with educational excursion etc. by contracting the college office.
4. Games and Sports Facility :
All kinds of encouragement and opportunities are provided by the Institution to students to
develop their proficiency in sports. The college has a playground on its campus and offers
the requisite amenities for various indoor and outdoor Games and sports such as - Cricket,
Football, Volleyball, Basket Ball, Badminton, Table Tennis, Carom, Chess etc.
5. Computer Facility :
The college has a Central Computer Room which offers different short-term Certificate
Courses in Computer training besides the basic uses of the computer.
6. National Service Scheme (NSS) :
The National Service Scheme is an organisation which provides opportunity to students to
develop their personality and social outlook through community service. The NSS Unit of
the college is actively engaged in various community services. Participation of students in
NSS activities is compulsory.
7. Co-curricular & Extra-Curricular Activities :
The college gives importance to the development of character, personality and leadership
qualities in all the students. The students are encouraged and motivated to organise and
participate actively in various co-curricular and extra-curricular activities such as games
and sports, drama, fine arts, literary and cultural activities, debate, seminars, quiz etc. from
time to time in addition to the prescribed courses of study. Seminars are organised by
every Department of the college at regular intervals to promote the intellectual aptitude of
the students through their active participation.
8. Grievance Redressal Cell :
There is a Grievance Redressal Cell to attend to the grievances of students.
9. Career Counseling Cell :
The career counseling cell of the college provides career guidance and counseling to stu-
dents.

10. Value Education Forum :
The college is aware of the emerging need of value based education and in order to pro-
mote it among the students, a Value Education Forum has been set up under the auspices
of a group of teachers. Personality Development Camps are organised at regular intervals
in the college in collaboration with the Vivekananda Kendra in order to inculcate values in
the students.
11. Anti-Ragging Cell :
Lumding College is an educational institute and is committed to maintaining a learning
environment free from discrimination, exploitation and harassment. To achieve these ob-
jectives, an Anti-Ragging Cell has been constituted by the college authority.
12. Common Room for students :
There are separate Common Rooms for both boys and girls with adequate facilities for
toilet and recreation.
13. Canteen :
The college has a canteen which provides wholesome food at a reasonable price.
14. Hostel Facility :
The college provides hostel facility to the female students. At present 40 seats are available.
15. Laboratories :
Science Departments have a spacious laboratories which are provided with modern in-
struments as prescribed by Gauhati University.
16. College Notice Board :
The students should, in their own interest, consult the Notice Board regularly to keep abreast
of the information displayed thereon.
17. Departmental Common Rooms :
Each and every Department has a Common Room with a Departmental Library for the
teachers. The students have easy access to the teachers in the Departmental Common
Rooms for academic counseling. Mention may be made that the Department of Assamese
is enriched with a mini Museum containing rich Assamese cultural heritage.

COLLEGE LIBRARY
A library speaks volumes about any educational institu-
tion. Lumding College has a modern computerized library in
its premises. It has an impressive collection of books, jour-
nals, newspapers and magazines. At present, it is equipped
with over 25000 books covering all subjects, 20 national and
international journals and newspapers. There is a Reference
Section which has a good collection of books. It has a spacious reading room with a seat ca-
pacity for 100 students.
In order to keep the library updated with modern technology of Library Management, it has
been computerized under the "Scientifically Arranged Cataloguing System". There is a digital
section where audio-visual facility has been provided for the learners. Various CDs on various
subjects, audio-visual cassettes and computer floppies are available for the benefit of the stu-
dents. Students are encouraged to use the audio-visual aids for better learning. Moreover, a
Xerox machine, printer and scanner has been provided in the library for use of the faculty mem-
bers as well as students.
The students can borrow books from the college library with their individual library cards
issued by the college as per the rules of the library. The Higher Secondary students can borrow
two books and TDC students can borrow four books for seven days at a time. They are also
entitled to use the internet facility available in the library. Moreover, a Book Bank facility has
been introduced for economically underprivileged students. It allows the students to keep the
books in their possession for a longer period of time.
The library remains open from 9 am to 5 pm on all working days. The book lending facility
is available to students of all classes from 11 am to 3 pm on all working days till they are issued
Admit Cards for their Final examinations.
Apart from the College Library, all the Departments have their individual Departmental
libraries for the benefit of all the faculty members and the students.

The library rules are as follows :1) The library card is valid till the end of the session every year, subject to further re-
newal, if all the conditions are fairly fulfilled by the holder.
2) A fine of Rs. 100/- will be levied if the card is lost.
3) Books will be issued only for 15 (Fifteen) days after which fine will be charged at therate of Rs. 2/- per day.
4) This card entitles the holder to borrow two books in H.S. course and four books inTDC course.

LITERARY ACTIVITIES :
The college encourages literary activities. The college magazine "Diganta" is publishedannually and is the medium for developing literary and other potentialities of the students. Itpublishes articles and creative writings contributed by the students and teachers.
The Women Cell, Lumding College celebrates its Foundation Day by publishing its journal"Shristi" (ISSN No. 2277-6540) every year.
Besides, wall magazines by various Departments are displayed regularly. Here also thestudents get the scope to explore their literary aptitude.
NORTHEAST HERITAGE CENTRE
A spectacular milestone in the history of the college is the opening of the Northeast Heritage
Centre in the college premises under the Department of History. The main aim of this centre is
to highlight and preserve the rich cultural heritage of the people of the North-east of India. The
centre is vibrant with a rich diversified collection of artifacts, attires, photographs, books, jour-
nals, tourism related information etc. having bearing on the social and cultural heritage of the
whole of the Northeast. A visit to this centre is expected to generate archaeological, anthropo-
logical and museological interest among the students about our national heritage and inspire
them to shoulder social and cultural responsibilities.

STUDENTS' UNION
The college has a general body of the regular students known as the Lumding CollegeStudents' Union. Its membership is compulsory for every regular student of the college. The
Union endeavours to foster and promote fraternity, mutual understanding and sense of respon-sibility among the students. It organizes various festivals such as Freshers' Social, Viswakarma
Puja, Saraswati Puja and Annual College Festival.The election to the executive council of thestudents' union of the college is held annually through the democratic process of secret ballots.
The constitution of the students' Union, the recommendations of Mr. J.M. Lyngdoh Commissionand the directions and guidelines of the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India thereon will be strictly
followed in conducting the said election. The relevant part of the recommendations of Mr. J.M.Lyngdoh commission is given below for knowledge of the students.
Eliqibility Criteria for Candidates to contest election to the students' union.
1) Undergraduate students between the ages of 17 and 22 may contest elections. This
age range may be appropriately relaxed in the case of professional colleges, wherecourses often range between 4 to 5 years.
2) Although the Committee would refrain from prescribing any particular minimum marksto be attained by candidate, the candidate should in no event have any academic
arrears in the year of contesting the election.
3) The candidate should have attained the minimum percentage of attendance as pre-
scribed by the University or 75% attendance, whichever is higher.
4) The candidate shall not have a previous criminal record, that is to say, he should nothave been tried and or convicted of any criminal offence or misdemeanor. The candi-
date shall also not have been subject to any disciplinary action by the University / Col-lege authorities.
5) The candidate must be a regular, full time student of the College/University and shouldnot be a distance / proximate education student. That is to say that all eligible candi-
dates must be enrolled in a full time course, the course duration being at least 1 year.
WOMEN CELL :
The College has a Women Cell consisting of the women members of the faculty. This
Cell undertakes various activities aimed at promoting the cause of women empowerment in thesociety. It also functions as an enthusiastic promoter of good causes like - public health and
welfare, sanitation awareness etc.

(I) H.S. :H.S. 1st year Annual Examination is conducted according to the A.H.S.E.C. Notification. How-
ever, the question papers are set by the Council (theory part) and evaluation of answer scripts anddeclaration of results are done in the college. H.S. Final examination is conducted by Assam HigherSecondary Education Council generally from the second half of February till the third week of Marchevery Year.
The terminal examination of H.S. 1st. year and the Test Examination of H.S. 2nd. Year areconducted by the college tentatively in the first week of December every year.
(II) TDC (Semester System) :There shall be one sessional examination in each semester and a final examination at the end
of the semester. The latter will be conducted by Gauhati University.
