Built EnvironmentNever Stand Still
Built EnvironmentGraduation Exhibition be.unsw.edu.au/luminocity
is a forum to imagine, test and debate the future of the 21st century city.
For two weeks, events and exhibitions
detailing the visionary work of UNSW
Built Environment students and staff
will ignite the senses and challenge our
understanding of the built environment.
This showcase event is the largest
multi-disciplinary design exhibition of its
kind in Australia, with over 500 students
from across our degrees presenting
their final-year projects. Every few days
a new exhibition of student work from
different BE disciplines will be on show
in a rolling exhibition that will present
fresh and evocative ideas and designs,
bringing you something different to
experience each time you visit.
During the day, UNSW Kensington will
be alight with all the colour, vibrancy
and surging energy of a rolling
exhibition. Join us on one of the many
celebratory nights when the buildings
become the canvas for a high-tech
illumination powered by some of the
creative minds behind Vivid Sydney.
The light show is accentuated with
choreography by Sue Healy and
the UNSW Dance Company.
Throughout LuminoCity, a fixed
exhibit of student work from across
the disciplines will also be on
show. In the spirit of LuminoCity,
the Leading Lights exhibition is
a celebration of the diversity and
interdisciplinary nature of our student
work. Leading Lights demonstrates
the creative expression and technical
precision of our students under the
leadership of a robust, supportive
and highly skilled teaching staff.
Illuminate your thinking on issues
related to the built environment with our
diverse program of events. Celebrate
the launch of LuminoCity and our two
new schools, AGSU and ASA+D, with
a rousing panel discussion in which
UNSW BE poses the question: How
does Sydney simultaneously grow and
preserve its status as one of the most
liveable cities in the world? Joining our
academic luminaries to discuss the
issue will be Immediate Past President
of Planning Institute of Australia NSW,
Ms Sarah Hill, National President of
the Australian Institute of Architects, Mr
Paul Berkemeier and State President
of Australian Institute of Landscape
Architecture, Mr James Grant.
We also invite you to take a trip off
campus with tours that delve into
the history and design of some
of Sydney’s iconic and lesser
known sites, including a Sydney
City Highlights Tour, Landscape
Architecture Twilight Harbour
Tour, and Tour of Riverwood North
which are sure to provide you with
unexpected insights about your city.
But that’s just the beginning.
LuminoCity is a celebration of our
UNSW BE community and includes
activities for alumni, industry
partners and school students as
well. For a full guide to our events
and exhibitions visit the website
at be.unsw.edu.au/luminocity.
Join us as we celebrate brilliant
