Next turn right on McGregor Avenue which will turn into Devils Gulch Road (also County Road 47). Follow this road for 1.3 miles to the turn off for the Lumpy Ridge Trailhead. Follow the road for an additional 2.1 miles to get to McGraw Ranch Road. Follow this road 2.2 miles to the Cow Creek Trailhead. There are four main attractions that draw people to the Lumpy Ridge or Cow Creek Trailheads: Gem Lake, Balanced Rock, Bridal Veil Falls, and West Creek Falls. Gem Lake and Balanced Rock sit in the area between the two trailheads. The easiest, fastest, and by far the most pop- ular way to get to them is from the Lumpy Ridge Trailhead. Gem Lake is small but very unique and you’ll have to get here early if you don’t want a bunch of strang- ers in your pictures. Not nearly as many people keep going to Balanced Rock. Bridal Veil Falls is a popular waterfall along Cow Creek. As you approach the waterfall there are some short technical sections but it’s not difficult to get to. West Creek Falls is a hidden gem of sorts. The approach trail is easy but you have to complete a very steep hike over a saddle on the North Boundary Trail first. For more information about these trails and others visit www.justtrails.com. -This trail system is open all year. -There is no National Park entry fee re- quired at either of these two trailheads. I think this is why Lumpy Ridge in particular is very popular. -These trails range in elevation between 7,800 feet at the Lumpy Ridge Trailhead and 8,800 feet at Bridal Veil Falls. -Approved Activities Include: Hiking and Horseback Riding. -Dogs are not allowed on any trail in Rocky Mountain National Park. -Parking is very limited at the Cow Creek Trailhead. You may not get a spot, espe- cially if you head there in the middle of the day during the summer.
